The update adds paste support. It also integrates the application into the Cydia store. For those of you who have already “purchased” (donated to) qTweeter, you will not have to purchase the application at the full $4.99.
Personally, I still think this is a pretty cool application… mostly because it allows me to post video tweets from my iPhone 3G (not 3GS). Let me know in the comments if qTweeter is an application that you use.

It has been a long time (and when I say long time… I’m talking like August 19th of 2008 long time) since I have done a review of Dock, an application that allows you to launch other applications. Honestly, I didn’t even know if it was working on the 3.0 firmware so I decided to give it a shot and, apparently it does work on 3.0. I do think however, that this app has been through more transformations than any other app!

To use Dock, you just drag your finger up from the bottom right corner (or left… depending on your settings) to the middle of your iPhone or iPod Touch’s screen. This will bring up a list of applications. You can then drag your finger up and down to scroll through the applications. Once you are on the app that you would like to launch, just let go and it will launch. You can choose the applications you would like in each Dock via the apps settings.

There is also the ability to drag your finger from the middle bottom of your screen in the center of your screen. This will bring up a middle dock which displays a menu with five options; Media, Phone, Uncategorized, Utilities and Work. You can drag your finger left and right on the screen to switch between the categories. Each category then contains applications. To see the applications in each category, drag your finger upward on your screen. You can then scroll through the application by dragging your finger left and right again. To get back down to the main menu, drag your finger downward. To launch an application, just select it and release your finger.

When you install Dock via Cydia, it will add a Dock Prefs icon to your SpringBoard. Like in the previous version it allows you to; Enable/Disable Dock, the Line Glow, the Speed Dial option in Dock and the ability to display hidden application in Dock. You can also choose to have a starburst on the left or the right (or both). You can also choose what you would like the starburts to launch; Recent Apps or a specific category of apps.

There are six pre-set categories; Hidden, Media, Phone, Uncategorized, Utilities and Work. In the Media option you will find YouTube and iTunes. In the Phone option you will find; Maps, Messages, Phone, Safari and Weather. The Uncategorized option is basically all your applications both App Store and jailbroke. The Utilities option has the AppStore, Clock, Cydia, Settings and WinterBoard. The Work option contains Calculator, Calendar, Mail and Notes.

You can move apps to a different category by selecting a category, selecting an app and then selecting which category you would like to more the application to.

I found that there are two features of this application that do not work. The “Create a New Category” option doesn’t seem to work along with the “Disable Dock for apps” option. Not a huge deal since you can arrange the apps in the Categories already created.

Overall, it seems to work fine on 3.0. I haven’t had this app on my iPhone in quite a while and I forgot how fun it was. It brings me back to the early jailbreak days! Now all we need is the screenshot option that it used to have and we would be good to go. You can get Dock via the Ste Packaging source (which also reminds me of back-in-the-day!).

Note: Don’t forget to use the “Restart SpringBoard” button after you make changes in the app’s settings.

The update adds a new feature – video. The really cool part is that you can send a video tweet not only from an iPhone 3GS but also an iPhone 3G and a first gen iPhone (on the 3.0 firmware)! Very cool.

If you are on a first gen iPhone or an iPhone 3G, you will need to install Cycorder via Cydia. qTweeter uses Cycorder to record the video you will tweet (and then uses TwitVid to post the video to Twitter and Facebook… you do not have to have TwitVid installed on your iPhone for it to work). The video is posted just like any other TwitVid video in both Twitter and Facebook. I also like that qTweeter allows you to upload a previously taken video.

It worked great for me on an iPhone 3G running 3.0 however, Doug had to uninstall it from his iPhone 3GS because it put it into continuous Safe Mode.

I personally have always thought this was a cool Twitter application. For a full review of the app please see previous posts about qTweeter. You can get qTweeter via the Ste Packaging source.

Well, it seems that this is indeed true. SwirlyMMS 2.1 is in the works (actually it’s in the beta testing faze). The update will include some cool new features:

1) Compatible with iPhoneOS 3.0
2) MMSes can now be “categorized” into folders and subfolders. The folders and subfolders are customizable and messages can be moved between folders.
3) Support for 3GP videos on iPhoneOS 3.0.
5) A completely new message browser.
4) The GUI has been optimized leaving it faster and more alert.

google_ad_height = 60;
//-->

It will cost $6.00 to upgrade (from SwirlyMMS 1.x) or $12.00 to purchase the app. There will be no cost to upgrade if you already have SwirlMMS 2.0.x.

They also have plans for a SwirlyMMS 2.2 which will allow SwirlyMMS users to send messages for free to other SwirlyMMS users! The messages will be sent over the SwirlyNet for no additional cost…yep, free. So, that is something to look forward to!

There is no exact ETA on when we will see SwirlyMMS 2.1 in Cydia but, I’m guessing it wont be too long…I know there are a lot of you waiting! The update will be released via the Ste Packaging source.

Today the Five-Column SpringBoard (FCSB) mod was updated to version 0.57 (and 0.57-1). The update does a few cool things; it makes the mod compatible with both 2.2.x and 3.0 firmware and it also moves the enable/disable toggle into the stock Setting application instead of creating an icon on the SpringBoard…which I really like! Below is the the change log for both the 0.57 and the 0.57-1 updates.

To toggle the FCSB mod, just open your stock Settings application and select the Five-Column SB option. You can then choose to enable or disable the mod. Which ever you do, it will respring your SpringBoard. I had no problem when I tested the update on firmware 3.0…it worked perfectly. You can get the FCSB mod via the Ste Packaging source.

0.57 Update:
- Now supports both 2.2.x and 3.0.
- Toggle is now in Setting app instead of a standalone app.
- Rewritten futureproof toggle/uninstall process
- Less memory leaks!

0.57-1 Update:
- Dropped an installation dependency that was no longer needed.

I did a review of qTweeter, an application that allows you to update your Twitter and/or Facebook status from any application, when it was first released in Cydia. At the time, I found two downfalls with the app…there was no ability to tweet images using qTweeter and every time you launched it, it also launched SBSettings. Well, two updates later, I think we are good to go!

After updating the app, I am able to launch it without launching SBSettings at the same time. The launch motion for qTwetter is still the same, swiping from the status bar down your screen, however it no longer launches SBSettings when you do this. A wonderful improvement!

Because the previous version of qTweeter launched SBSettings, I had not used it since I tested it and I had forgotten how sleek the application is! I was impressed all over again. As I tested the image feature…I was not let down…it was yet another sleek, user-friendly implementation!

In order to post an image using qTweeter, just launch the application and then select the bars icon in the upper right corner of the app. This will bring up a menu in which you can choose to take a picture or choose one from your Camera Roll. Once you have chosen an image, it will put the image behind the application so that you can see it while you are twittering about. I love that it does this! There have been a number of times that I wish I could have seen the image I was twittering about as I wrote my tweet! You are even given the option to remove the image or rotate the image once you have chosen it. To do so, just select the bars icon in the upper right corner again and you will get some new menu options including the ability to remove the image and the ability to rotate the image. The rotate option only rotates the image 45 degree so, you will have to rotate it a few times if you need to to go all the way around. I also like that it adjusts the amount of characters you have left based on your image so that your tweet isn’t too long after attaching the image.

Overall, I actually really like this application. I think it is sleek, nicely implemented and user friendly. Like I said in my previous review, “Obviously, this is not a full Twitter application instead, it is just a quick way to update your status no matter what application you are in…no need to close your app and open anther app just to tweet! Also, it makes twittering about web pages, music, videos and images much easier!”

Last night, just before going to bed, I checked Cydia like I always do. I was surprised to see that Ste Packaging had released an app (it has been a while since I have seen one from them). This instantly made me a little curious about the application so, I decided to check it out. At first I was like, “Yeah, that is just what I need…another Twitter application!” But, after I installed and tested the app…it realized this was like no other Twitter application I had!

qTweeter allows you to update your Twitter and Facebook from any application. How that app works is, once installed, you can slide your finger from your status bar down the page. This brings up a nicely designed little user interface. The first time you launch the app (swipe from the status bar down) you will get a Welcome to qTweeter page. Here you will want to select the Start Using qTweeter option.

Note: this is a trial app…you can only update your status 15 times until you have to donate to get full use of the app. The application does not have a set price…just a donation is required.

Once you have selected “Start using qTweeter”, you will be brought to the settings page where you can set up your Facebook and Twitter info. Also in the settings, you can choose a double-tap application (which I will explain more about in a minute), the sound affect you would like, the background you would like the UI to have, the profile image you would like the UI to have, turn on/off the auto-hide feature and more info about qTweeter and how to register it.

Ok, once you have all your info entered for Facebook and/or Twitter…you can use the app. Just swipe your finger and you will see the UI. To update your status, just begin typing what you would like your status to be. You can then check to update either Twitter or Facebook or both. Once you are ready to post your update, select Update Status. You will notice that in the upper right corner, it will count down how many characters of the 140 you have left as you type. You can also select the icon in the upper right corner (next to the counter) to get back into the setting for the applicaiton.

Now, lets talk about a few of the cool features of this application. First, the double-tap feature I mentioned earlier. If you double-tap on the Twitter and Facebook words, you are able to launch an application. I have my Twitter double-tap set to launch Tweetie and my Facebook double-tap set to launch the Facebook application.

Some other cool features include the ability to quickly tweet about a website you are on, a YouTube video you are watching or a song you are listening to. All of these work in the same way. Foe example, if you are on a web page in Safari and you would like to Tweet about it…just launch the qTweeter UI and then select the “settings” icon in the upper right corner. This will bring up not only the option to get into the settings but also the option to do a “Safari QuickTweet.” When you select Safari QuickTweet, it will automatically put the title of the web site and a shortened link into your qTweeter UI. The same goes for music and YouTube videos. There is also an option to Shorten URL’s if you decide to manually add your own URL…it will automatically shorten it for you! Awesome feature! qTweeter will also work in landscape mode.

Overall, this app worked great for me. I already have my Facebook setup to pull in my tweets (Twitter updates) so, I only signed into Twitter on qTweeter and it still worked great…it updated my Twitter (and my Facebook) with no problem! Obviously, this is not a full Twitter application instead, it is just a quick way to update your status no matter what application you are in…no need to close your app and open anther app just to tweet! Also, it makes twittering about web pages, music and videos much easier!

However, there are a few things worth mentioning. There is no way to add a picture to a tweet using qTweeter…which I think is a feature that most definitly needs to be added. Also, even though it does work in conjunction with SBSettings. every time you swipe to launch qTweeter it also launches SBSettings. So, then you have to close SBSettings in order to use qTweeter. Let me know in the comments if this is an app you plan on using!

Another Note: In order for qTweeter to launch, the status bar must be showing. So, if you are watching a YouTube video…you will need to tap the screen and bring up the status bar before you can launch qTweeter.

A couple of weeks ago, Doug wrote about how you could stop your icons from wiggling via a download file and some ssh work. Well, it seem the developer has made things a little easier by releasing the app via Cydia. The process is simple and easy, just install the application and no more wiggling icons! This means that when you tap and hold an icon so that they can be moved around your SpringBoard, they will no longer wiggle.

This application is not activated via WinterBoard, it just automatically installs and activates. If you would like your wiggling back, just uninstall the app via Cydia.

Personally, I have a hard time with this one! If the icons do not have an x in the corner, it is hard to know that you are in the mode in which you can rearrange your icons if they are not wiggling and…it’s just plain weird! If it sounds like something you would be interested in…it is available via the Ste source. I had no problem installing or uninstalling this application.

Hello iPhone People…that is supposed to be read like they say, “Hello Miami” like at concerts and what not. Ok, maybe that only happens in the movies anyway, moving on! It seems that SwirlyMMS, an app that allows multimedia text messaging, has finally made it’s way to the 2.0+ firmware…YAY!. This is very exciting for those of you who can use it! I’m still trying to find a way to get it to work with AT&T but, it does have a new icon!

When you open SwirlyMMS, it will default to the Inbox screen but will then take you to the info screen. On the info screen you will see the options Get Demo and and Arrow. In order to use the application, you will need to request a demo. All you have to do it tap the Demo button and it will automatically “fetch” you a demo license. The first time I tried it…it failed but I just hit the Get Demo option again and it worked fine.

Once you have a demo, you can use SwirlyMMS for 14 days. It then costs $8.00 USD to purchase the application. Once you have your demo you can then select the arrow button and it will bring you to the Inbox screen where you can see your Inbox, Outbox, Sent and Trash. On the lower menu bar there are three options. The “i” will bring you back to the Info screen, the Tools icon will bring you to the Settings page (which is almost exactly the same as it was in the previous version) and the New SMS icon will allow you to create a new SMS. The interface is really nice. You are easily able to add Pictures from your Camera Roll, take a picture, add text to the message and send a file from your iPhone. You can even see all the multimedia files you are sending by selecting the Media Parts option.

As lovely as the interface seems to look and feel, I can’t tell you for sure how well it works! You guys will have to let me know in the comments if the new version is working well. I hope that it is!! SwirlyMMS is available though the Ste Packaging source in Cydia.

Note: I received an email from the developer of SwirlyMMS (which I did not read before writing this post, my bad!) and I guess the biggest news for the new version of SwirlyMMS is that you can now, “send and receive MMSs using an iPhone3G.” So, not only can people with first generations iPhone on the 2.0+ firmware use SwirlyMMS but also people with 3G iPhones. I personally had assumed that would be the case (which I probably shouldn’t have done) but, it is good to know!
