The comets go behind your icons which actually creates a pretty cool affect. Not an app I would leave activated all the time but, fun to check out. I did find that the comets shoot WAY too often. It would be better if they were like totally random…like every couple of minutes or so…that way just as you start would start to forget about them, one would go flying by! When you install Comet, it is added to WinterBoard where it can then be activated/deactivated. It is available via the Ranbee source. Screenshots below.

Once you have created an image, you have the option to do a few things with it. If you select the Menu option on the lower menu bar, you are able to choose to email and post artwork, post artwork to web, go to web site and add to photo library. If you would like to post your artwork to their website, you will need to sign up for an account. And, I will say, it is fun to go online and see all the different designs!

Once you start a design, there is no need to save it…it is automatically saved to the Gallery. If you go back to the main menu and go into the gallery, you are able to view all designs you have created as well as delete any of the designs you have created.

I have found a few glitches in the application such as pixels outside of the grid lighting up (they don’t show up on the actual design just on the page when you create the design). I also noticed that when you are trying to light pixels next to the upper menu bar, it tends to think you are tapping on the menu bar instead of the pixel just below it (this is mainly an issue when you are zoomed all the way out on your design page). Other than that…I actually really like this application. It is fun to use and nicely designed. I find myself going back to it again and again…it has an addictive quality! Check it out!

iMood is a simple application that allows you to create scrolling banners or just display an emoticon message on your iPhone or iPod Touch’s screen. iMood opens to the main page in which you have two options; Moods or Chat. The Moods option allows you to select a mood from a list of options (Happy, Sad, Love, Awake, Laughing…etc). Once you have selected a mood, you can then type in a message. When you select Show, it will display the emoticon for the mood you chose and your message on your device’s screen. To get back to the edit page, just tap Back.

The Chat option allows is where you create a scrolling banner. Here you can choose how fast you would like the message to scroll using the Duration bar (left is slower, right is faster). You can also choose whether you would like a white or black background…this will automatically change the font to the contrasting color. You can then type in the message that you would like to scroll. Once your message has been typed, select Done. This will scroll the message across your device’s screen. To get back to the edit screen…just tap Change.

This is a very simple application that doesn’t have a ton of features but, does what it says it is going to do (sometimes simple is nice!). The only thing that I have noticed is that when you create a scrolling banner, and the message is scrolling, your status bar still remains at the top…it would be nice if the status bar disappeared (which is does in the Moods option).

Later that same day, Banner Deluxe was updated and added the one feature that I thought the application needed (save settings when closing and reopening the application) and also added a very cool feature that I hadn’t even thought of. You are now able to make your own custom backdrop!! The app allows you to choose any image from your Photo Albums to use as your backdrop making the message even more customizable!

In light of the pretty cool update below are two promo code…the first two people to redeem them, may have them. You can redeem them using iTunes on your computer or iTunes on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Please let us know in the comments if you redeemed the codes that way everyone knows that they have been used.

I will be honest, when I read the title of this application I said to myself…Here we go, another “toy” application that probably has a bad design and a horrible user interface. However, I was pleasantly surprised from the moment I opened the application! Banner Deluxe is an application that allows you to create scrolling banners for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

The first thing I noticed about the application was that it was well designed and had quite a few nice features. As I began testing the application, I also found the user interface to be very smooth and easy to use. The application opens to the Settings Menu in which there is a lower menu bar with the options; Text, Theme, Backdrop, Font, Text Texture and Option. In the Text option, you are able to enter the message that you would like to scroll or choose from the list of previously entered messages. To enter a message, just tap on the text bar. You can also add symbols to your message by selecting the smiley icon in the upper right corner, once you have tapped in the text bar. Once you have entered your message, you can get back to the Settings Menu by selecting Return.

The Theme option allows you to choose a theme that you would like for your message. Each theme contains a Backdrop, Text Texture and Font style. There are three pages of themes to choose from. The Backdrop, Font and Text Texture options on the lower menu bar allow you to change individual aspects of a theme or to create a completely unique theme.

The Option setting on the lower menu bar allows you to change the speed in which your message scrolls. 1 through 10 will scroll the message from right to left (1 being the slowest and 10 being the fastest). -10 through -1 will scroll the message from left to right (1- being the slowest and -10 bring the fastest). You are also able to disable auto-sleep and multiple displays. If you disable auto-sleep, it will keep your iPhone from auto-locking while scrolling a message. The Multiple Display option allows you to scroll a message across more than one iPhone or iPod Touch. You are able to scroll a message across 2 to 10 devices.

Once you have chosen all your options, you can select the Play button in the upper left corner to scroll your message. While the message is scrolling you can swipe to the right to increase the scrolling speed, swipe to the left to decrease the scrolling speed, pinch-in/out to decrease/increase the text size and double-tap to get back to the Settings menu. The message will continually scroll until you double-tap on the screen. Once a message has been played, it is automatically added to the List menu in the Text option so that it can quickly be chosen later.

I did notice that the app was a little glitchy when I first installed and tested it however, after I restarted my iPhone, it was fine. The only thing I would like to see added to this application is that it would save your last message’s theme when you reopen the application. Other than that, it is nicely designed app and has a lot of features. Not only that, it was fun to use! Definitely one of the best apps of it’s kind.

Collaborative Whiteboard is a pretty cool drawing application. This app was actually released a few days ago but, I was planning and hosting a little boys 2nd Birthday party (an Elmo theme I might add) so, I’m just getting to review it now. I have tested this application a few times now and honestly, I like the concept. Collaborative Whiteboard is an application that allows 2 iPhones or iPod Touches to draw simultaneously on the same image. This is done via the same WiFi connection.

When you open Collaborative Whiteboard, you will get a menu screen. At the top of the screen you will notice that it says, “Waiting for others to join whiteboard.” You will also see the name of your iPhone or iPod Touch, for example; Brooke Porter’s iPhone. When another iPhone or iPod Touch that is on the same WiFi connections as your iPhone or iPod Touch opens the Collaborative Whiteboard application, it will display the title of that device (example; 1st Gen iPhone 1.1.4). You can then choose one of the devices listed. When you select one of the available devices to connect to, it will send that person a message saying, “Brooke Porter’s iPhone (or the title of the device) would like to join your whiteboard.” You can then choose to join with that device or not to. Once you have made your decision, you will both get a message saying that you are now connected (or rejected!).

Once both devices have accepted, you will get the drawing screen…where you can begin drawing. What you draw will automatically show up on both your drawing screen and the drawing screen of the device you are connected to…and vice-versa. You can get to the drawing settings by two finger tapping on the screen (the other device does not see this…it only sees what you draw). On the menu screen, you are able to see which device you are connected to, you have the ability to change the width of your drawing tool, the color of your drawing tool and the ability to start over. If one of the devices decides to Start Over, it will send a message to the other device asking if they would also like to start over. If they select Yes, the screen will be erased and you can start over. To get back to the drawing screen from the drawing settings, just single tap on the screen.

If you would like to disconnect from the other device, just go into the Settings (by two finger tapping) and tap on the device that has a check mark next to it. This will automatically disconnect you and the other device will get a message saying that you have disconnected from them. You will also be automatically disconnected if one of the devices closed the Collaborative Whiteboard application.

This application does not have a ton of features…you can draw and that is about it. There are no options for saving your whiteboard (though, you can take a screenshot), erasing parts of the drawing, options for different drawing tools…etc. However, the user interface is easy to use, the application works properly, the concept is great and it is fun! Definitely an app worth trying out. I will say that it is a little weird to see images, that you did not draw, just show up on your iPhone or iPod Touch!

Cracked Screen is an application that will make your iPhone or iPod Touch look as though it has a cracked (broken) screen…similar to the application Cracks that was available for firmware 1.1.4 and below). When you launch Cracked Screen, you will get a main application page with instructions on how to used the application.

The first thing you will need to do is take a screenshot of your SpringBoard. So, close the Cracked Screen application and take a screenshot of your SpringBoard (if you need info on how to take a screenshot of your SpringBoard, check out our f.a.q page). Once you have a screenshot of your SpringBoard, go back into the Cracked Screen application. Next, select the Open Image Picked button at the bottom of the page. This will bring you to your Photo Albulms where you can then go into your Camera Roll and select the screenshot of your SpringBoard.

When you select your screenshots, it will automatically load onto your screen. Now, the app is activated…the next touch on your iPhone or iPod Touch’s screen will make it look as though the screen is cracked. So basically, you will need to set up the application before you hand it to someone. You will have to let me know in the comments if you have tried this little trick and whether or not it worked!
