There are a lot of twitter apps in the App Store actually, there are quite a few good twitter apps in the App Store. Personally, I have always been partial to Tweetie and like many people I was totally stoked about the release of Tweetie 2. I’m still a believer in the app, but lets just say it has it’s bugs. So, I was once again stoked to hear about the update to version 2.1 of the app.

The update to Tweetie 2 version 2.1 includes quite a few bug fixes (thank goodness) and also quite a few cool new features. According to TechCrunch, there are two features that they think we will like the most; “New-style retweets and geolocation support.”

TechCrunch gives a nice overview of three of the new featuers of Tweetie 2.1; Retweets, Geolocation and Lists. Below are a few snippets from there review but, you can check out their full article HERE.

The update is scheduled to be submitted to the App Store later this week and then, as we all know, will have to go through the approval process. We will let you know when it is available. It will be a free upgrade for Tweetie 2 owners.

Retweets
While Twitter has yet to enable the new-style retweets or geolocation for most accounts, Tweetie 2.1 offers a glimpse of how it will work. Tweets from accounts with the new retweet function show up in Tweetie 2.1’s stream. As promised, these are the tweets from the actual person who originally sent it, rather than the person doing the retweeting.

But Tweetie 2.1 highlights these retweets in a nice way. First of all, you see both the user icon for person who originally tweeted the item and the person retweeting it. The original tweeter’s icon is big, while the retweeter’s icon is small and stuck in the lower right hand corner (see image). These tweets are also tagged with a pinkish-red triangle in the upper right hand corner to let you know this is a retweet. Clicking on these tweets takes you to a page that shows you the tweet from the original source, but also says at the bottom “retweeted by @USERNAME.”

Geolocation
Likewise, Tweetie 2.1 also shows off Twitter’s new geolocation support. Again, for accounts that have it turned on, these tweets show up in Tweetie 2.1 with a tiny red location pin in the upper right hand corner. Clicking on these tweets takes you to the tweet’s page which also has a little map preview below it showing what city the tweet was sent from. Clicking on this map loads up a larger Google Map inside of Tweetie 2.1 that pinpoints the actual location with a red push pin.

atebits has announced lots of info about the soon to be released Tweetie 2. This will be a free upgrade for the Mac version but for the iPhone, you will need to buy it as a seprate app at $2.99. The original Tweetie is really nice but I’m kinda torn on the idea of making the app cost $2.99 again. As much as I use it, and as many upgrades that there are, I personally think it’s worth it. I have multiple Twitter accounts (in the double digits) and love all the current features. For light to normal users, I could see people being upset for having to pay all over again for the app. Wait until you see these screenshots and list of updates and then you might be willing to pay Also note, the developer has “dropped everything and devoted every working minute since to Tweetie.”

qTweeter, a twitter and facebook application, has been update to version 2.06. The update adds paste support. It also integrates the application into the Cydia store. For those of you who have already “purchased” (donated to) qTweeter, you will not have to purchase the application at the full $4.99. If for some reason it does not show that you already purchased the application, after you install it, it will ask you for your registration information… just enter the email address you used when you donated to the app.

Personally, I still think this is a pretty cool application… mostly because it allows me to post video tweets from my iPhone 3G (not 3GS). Let me know in the comments if qTweeter is an application that you use.

qTweeter, a Twitter application, has been updated to version 2.0. The update adds a new feature – video. The really cool part is that you can send a video tweet not only from an iPhone 3GS but also an iPhone 3G and a first gen iPhone (on the 3.0 firmware)! Very cool.

If you are on a first gen iPhone or an iPhone 3G, you will need to install Cycorder via Cydia. qTweeter uses Cycorder to record the video you will tweet (and then uses TwitVid to post the video to Twitter and Facebook… you do not have to have TwitVid installed on your iPhone for it to work). The video is posted just like any other TwitVid video in both Twitter and Facebook. I also like that qTweeter allows you to upload a previously taken video.

It worked great for me on an iPhone 3G running 3.0 however, Doug had to uninstall it from his iPhone 3GS because it put it into continuous Safe Mode.

TwitVid recently updated their website/app adding the ability to upload your videos to Facebook, MySpace and YouTube. To turn the features on, you you will need to go to their website, login and choose where you would like the videos to upload.

The next time you post a video to Twitter using TwitVid, it will also add the video to the other places you have chosen. You do not have the choice to post one video to just Twitter and another to both Twitter and Facebook. Once you turn on the Facebook (or YouTube or MySpace) option on the website, it will automatically upload all the videos you post on Twitter to the other places. In order to not upload a video to a certain place, you would have to go back onto the website and remove that option.

Things to note:
- When a video is uploaded to Facebook it adds the video to your “wall” however, it does not add it to the actual Video app in Facebook.

- When a video is uploaded to YouTube it is uploaded directly into your YouTube account.

- When a video is uploaded to MySpce – WHAT! Who uses MySpace!!

I am REALLY excited about this app. First of all, it’s free, but I’d pay for this app in a heartbeat. Very very well done. Ok, let’s get on with it. TwitVid lets you post your videos taken by your iPhone 3GS to your Twitter account. Just install the app, login, either record a new video or chose an exciting one, add your tweet and you’re done! It creates a nice short URL for your tweet like this and adds it to the end: http://www.twitvid.com/0343E

The website it takes you too is very nice. It uses your background for your Twitter account and has extra features like live chat embedded in the sidebar. You can also embed this video somewhere else, chat too. The quality is very good and upload speeds on wifi were great. We’ll test more to see how EDGE and 3G workout. Another nice thing is viewers start to stream the video as you’re uploading it. So even if you’re not done uploading, they can see the beginning and it buffers as you upload.

Speaking of them seeing the video, if your on an iPhone, the video will play back right inside of apps like Tweetie, Twitteriffic and TweetDeck! It doesn’t take you to the full site or even a mobile site. It just plays the full thing, full screen! AWESOME!

I don’t know about you guys but, I was totally stoked to see an update to Tweetie…in which Apple finally approved, two and half weeks after it was submitted (no surprise there!). Tweetie is my favorite Twitter application and it has been driving me crazy that the search has been broken since the dreaded Twitpocalypse. It seems that they have worked out all the Twitpocalypse bugs and Tweetie is back to functioning normally! YAY! The developer also says that there is a “news on the next “big” update coming soon.”

TweetDeck was released tonight so I thought I’d give it a try. First of all, it’s free. That’s nice. Second, I have to admit, I’m a Tweetie fanboy. I prefer it over TweetDeck on the desktop so beware. Really, the thing I think is the problem is it has too many features. I know, seems impossible. There are some great features though. Like nice little pop ups when you get new tweets. It’s kinda set up like safari with multiple pages that can be zoomed in and out and flicked through. I really like the pop up bubble in the bottom left with recent tweet counts. I’m going to try and use it tomorrow along with the crazy day of the iPhone firmware 3.0 release!

For me, this is the best Twitter client for the iPhone. I know people really like others, like Twitterrrific, but I still vote for Tweetie. You can easily set up and access mulitiple Twitter account. There are three different themes to the layout and design of the app, which is huge for me because I like the dark theme. You can easily access your main stream, @replies, direct messages and favorites from the main screen. The more tab, of course, has even more features like access to your own profile, go to user, nearby, trends, search and you can save your searches. You can post pictures or your location in tweets. Under a users profile you can reply, direct message, follow, stop following, see recent tweets, see recent replies to that user, see who they are following and who’s following them, and block or unblock. The best feature of all for me is the ability to customize the app like changing the theme, and the way your retweets look.
