WinterBoard Updates – Per-Page Wallpaper

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard In the last week or so there have been a few updates to WinterBoard. The updates do not make any changes to the user interface of the app but, they do add a few cool new options like per page wallpapers….meaning the ability to have a different wallpaper on each page of your SpringBoard. Below is a list of all the changes for each update. Though, I’m still waiting for that huge update that makes WinterBoard a little more user friendly and gives it a nice clean user interface!!

Note: If you would like to have a different wallpaper on each page of your SpringBoard, you will need to label the wallpapers inside your theme as … Page0.png (first page), Page1.png (second page), Page2.png (third page) and so on.

Cydia Store Now Open!

CydiaAfter a long night, the Cydia Store is now open! Just to clear some things up, the Cydia Store is not a different application. It’s just an update to the current Cydia App. For those of you who do not know what I’m talking about, you will need to jailbreak your iPhone to get Cydia. It was also expected to be released last night but took a little longer than expected. Here’s some of the updates from the developer through the night and this morning that give out more details: [Read more…]

WeatherIcon Mod Updates 1.9.1 and 1.9.2

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WeatherIcon I was excited to see the update to the WeatherIcon mod last night…the updated boasted improved battery performance, memory improvements, fixing the Safe Mode issue and better rendering of the status bar icons…all of which I was very excited about!! So, I updated the app last night and instantly encountered a few problems. After updating, all I would get was a ? on my status bar and my weather icon. I restarted my iPhone and then waited a bit and the ? did eventually go away (though, it continued to come back randomly throughout the night). Well, it seems this was fixed with another update to the app this morning! Which, so far, has seemed to fix the problem. However, I am still having a few other issues.

Finally, another big feature is the added thumbnail view of hot items to the home screen. I can tell it’s customized to my recent searches.

There are other navigational and appearance tweaks you will notice in the update to version 1.2 as well. Here are some screenshots of these changes and the ones listed above. [Read more…]

PwnCenter and Steffwiz Source Updates

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

PwnCenter Both the PwnCenter and Steffwiz sources were “updated” in Cydia. The update adds the Steffwiz source into the PwnCenter source. When you install the PwnCenter source package (version 0-1) in Cydia, it will remove the Steffwiz source from your iPhone or iPod Touch. The source url for the PwnCenter source has not changed, it just now adds all the Steffwiz apps into the PwnCenter source.

Lock Calendar Update – Display Calendar Events on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Lock Calendar Lock Calendar has been update to version 0.2. The update has a few bug fixes however, it also updates the appearance of the app and adds some setting options. Like in the previous version, as soon as you install Lock Calendar, it will automatically start displaying Calendar events on your lock screen (it is NOT activated via WinterBoard).

When you install the app, you will notice that the there are is no longer a gray highlight behind the date and that the spacing has been changed so that events are closer together. There are a few other minor aesthetic changes such as a comma after the day in the date. Overall, a nice visual update though, I actually didn’t mind the highlight behind the date in the previous version. Another nice feature of the update are some setting options. [Read more…]

Stack 2.1 Update

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

StackI love this app! Stack brings the stack feature from Leopard to your iPhone. If you’ve never heard of Stack, it’s basically a stack of icons in your dock that when tapped, it opens a group of apps. The new features are pretty nice. You can now choose to have your stack in the middle or the bottom right. The center option works well with a 5 icon dock. Just get a blank icon and put it where your stack is. That way the other icons will line up right.

To access the program’s setting you need to go to your Settings app. This is new in this version. If you make changes to its position you’ll have to respring to see the effect (I use SBSettings for that). You can also force the grid view & toggle the stack to be curved or straight although these features aren’t new. [Read more…]

Cydia Update 1.0.2684-40

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Cydia I was surprised to open Cydia and see any update for Cydia itself! The update to version 1.0.2684-40 of Cydia does make some nice changes to the application.

The first change I noticed was that when you select an application in Cydia, there have been a few changes to the look of the package Details page. The first change you will notice is that the icon, title of the app and version of app are now at the top of the page. Below this, there is now a new option; Change Package Settings. This option allows you to turn on/off Show All Changes. It says that the Changes option (on the lower menu bar) will only show upgrades to installed packages however, you can turn on Show All Changes for any application that you do not have installed to see any changes made to it as well. The other new addition to the package details page is nice new icons next to each section! Which I think look great!! [Read more…]

Ocarina Update – Now Allows Recording of Audio

Available In: App Store       Price: $0.99

Ocarina There are quite a few cool new things going on over at as well as with the application itself. For those of you who are not familiar with Ocarina, it is a musical instrument that uses the microphone to detect breath and then uses the iPhone’s touch screen to play different notes (similar to a flute or recorder). Check out THIS POST for more info.

In the last day, Ocarina was updated to version 1.2 adding a very cool, and much awaited, feature…the ability to record your music! Below are the specs we received from Smule and my how-to on how to use the new features. [Read more…]

WootWatch Update

WootWatchThe update promised by the developer has been released and WootWatch works again! had changed some code on their site which ’caused the WootWatch app to become inoperable. The developer pushed an emergency update to correct the problem.

WootWatch Fix/Update Coming Soon

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

WootWatchDuring a recent Woot-Off on my WootWatch app stopped working. I contacted the developer and got the following response:

Dear WootWatch user,

Yes, the app stopped working on Thursday morning. This started when made a change to their page that broke WootWatch’s processing logic. In my defense, the change they made was technically a coding error on their part (they inserted a non-permitted XML character), but although that makes me feel better, it doesn’t help you get your daily Woot fix.

I’ve submitted a patch to the App Store that would work around this problem. You’ll see it as version, and it will be available for download as soon as Apple approves the submission.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

– Dave Rahardja

PS: I can’t believe they changed their code in the middle of a Woot-Off. Yikes!

Great News! We’ll let you know when the update is released. If you’ve never heard of Woot or WootWatch, check out this review: WootWatch for Today’s Woot-Off!
