Discount Price is a simple application that allows you to quickly calculate discount prices.

The application is pretty straight forward, enter the price of the item and then enter the discount amount (ex. 15%). It will then calculate what the price of the item will be after the discount and how much you will save.

You are able to choose from pre-entered discount percentages ranging from 5% to 80% or, there is also the ability to enter a custom discount percentage.

A very simple application that allows you to quickly figure out discount prices without a bunch of hassle. With the Holiday season coming up, this could be a handy application!

RedLaser (an application that scans the barcode of a product and then searches online for that product and it’s prices) is not a new application it has been in both the App Store and the jailbreak community for a while now however, the App Store version of the application recently received an update. The update was in review for quite some time and finally made it through the approval process. Version 2.2.0 of the app drastically improves RedLaster’s performance making it as good as the jailbroke version! Actually, with a few of the new features, I would say it is now better than the jailbroke version of the app.

While I was giving the update a test run, I was once again impressed by how quickly the app recognizes a barcode. On most occasions I had just lined up the bar code and it was already scanning it… even as I moved around and the image looked totally blurry. I tested RedLaster on a range or products from food to shampoo to books to Xbox games to Candles… it scanned and found every product I tested. I love that the update now allows you to view the details of a result within the application instead of taking you to an external browser.

Overall, a seriously cool application… it even has a cool sound affect. Once you start scanning, you wont be able to stop until you have scanned everything in sight!

Remember, you can go into the stock Settings application and change quite a few settings for RedLaser including the currency (USD, GBP and EUR), Amazon Search Results (Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and United Stater) and turn the Automatic Search on/off.

DropCopy, a file transferring application, is on sale today (Sunday, August 30th) for free. But, it is today and today only. DropCopy is file transferring application that allows you to easily transfer files between iPhones, iPod touches and Macs. DropCopy has been around since way back in the jailbreak days (we did our first review of DropCopy on November 19th of 2007!). DropCopy is normally $4.99. TwitVid, an application that allows iPhone 3GS users to tweet videos, had it’s first update today. You will not see any visual changes to the application until firmware 3.1 is released. Once the 3.1 firmware is released, you will be able to see My Videos, Top Videos, and Control Video Quality. I do think it is a little weird to have any update with features for a firmware that is not even available yet but, you know Apple. Below is a full list of features… including the ones that affect the current version of firmware.

TaskList is an application that when open, gives you a list of everything that is running on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Nothing fancy, just a textual list of processes that is running. It includes all the kernel and user processes running in the background. You can get TaskList via the BigBoss source.

If you want to do more with search on your iPhone, check out Universal Search in Cydia. This app lets you search Google, Wikipedia, Twitter, Flickr, ESPN and a lot more! Best of all, you can do it from the spotlight search. Just type in your search item then tap search. The keyboard will disappear and show scrolling icons for sites you can search. Some, like images, expand to give you more choices. Tapping the icon will take you to it’s webapp using that search term. You can reorder the additional search options in the app’s settings.

Maps Enhancer is an application that adds a few more options to the stock Maps app. Once installed, you can go into your stock Settings applications and you will find MapEnhancer.

The Maps Enhancer app adds the ability to keep your Maps cache and the ability to set the maximum zoom level for Standard, Satellite and Hybrid maps. The zoom levels range from 2 – 19, 2 being zoomed WAY out (I’m talking WAY out!) and 19 being zoomed in. You can also choose to go back to the default zoom setting.

I haven’t been able to give the app a ton of testing but, what I did test seemed to work fine. Let me know in the comments if you have use Map Enhancer and what you think. You can get Maps Enhancer via the BigBoss source.

Doug and I took the boys hiking this week-end and on the way there, Doug was talking about having an application just like this! He wanted one that defaulted the zoom out a little further and cached the map (because with our great AT&T service, we didn’t have any problems at all with Map not displaying. *sarcasm). So, I think this is one we will be keeping around.

CompareMe is a shopping utility that allows you to compare prices between products. At a first glance you might think; “What a basic little app” but, after further review, you would realize that CompareMe has quite a few “hidden” features.

The most predominate feature of this application is the ability to input the amount, unit and price of two items in order to compare them and find out which one is the better buy. You are able to choose from a large selection of Units allowing you to compare basically any two items. Once the information has been added, you are quickly given a comparison detailing how much you would save (the discount %) and how much extra you would pay (the premium %) depending on which item you purchased.

I personally use this all the time when shopping. Just today, I used it to compare something that was on sale (in a larger quantity) to something that wasn’t on sale… that way I would know if the sale price was actually saving me any money.

Besides the obvious function of being able to quickly compare two items, there are also quite a few “hidden” features. You are able to switch the discount and premium options, convert prices, transfer package size and negotiate a price. These feature allow you to do a more in-depth comparison of products.

The thing I love about this app is that it is very fast and easy to use. This is important to me because I don’t want to be standing there forever trying to figure out which item is the better deal. I want to be able to figure it out quickly and move on to the next thing. This application is perfect for that!

Overall, CompareMe is a well designed, easy-to-use application… a handy tool that is perfect for any price conscious consumer. It is worth the $1.99 price tag, hands down (I saved more than that using it today!).

It has been a long time (and when I say long time… I’m talking like August 19th of 2008 long time) since I have done a review of Dock, an application that allows you to launch other applications. Honestly, I didn’t even know if it was working on the 3.0 firmware so I decided to give it a shot and, apparently it does work on 3.0. I do think however, that this app has been through more transformations than any other app!

To use Dock, you just drag your finger up from the bottom right corner (or left… depending on your settings) to the middle of your iPhone or iPod Touch’s screen. This will bring up a list of applications. You can then drag your finger up and down to scroll through the applications. Once you are on the app that you would like to launch, just let go and it will launch. You can choose the applications you would like in each Dock via the apps settings.

There is also the ability to drag your finger from the middle bottom of your screen in the center of your screen. This will bring up a middle dock which displays a menu with five options; Media, Phone, Uncategorized, Utilities and Work. You can drag your finger left and right on the screen to switch between the categories. Each category then contains applications. To see the applications in each category, drag your finger upward on your screen. You can then scroll through the application by dragging your finger left and right again. To get back down to the main menu, drag your finger downward. To launch an application, just select it and release your finger.

When you install Dock via Cydia, it will add a Dock Prefs icon to your SpringBoard. Like in the previous version it allows you to; Enable/Disable Dock, the Line Glow, the Speed Dial option in Dock and the ability to display hidden application in Dock. You can also choose to have a starburst on the left or the right (or both). You can also choose what you would like the starburts to launch; Recent Apps or a specific category of apps.

There are six pre-set categories; Hidden, Media, Phone, Uncategorized, Utilities and Work. In the Media option you will find YouTube and iTunes. In the Phone option you will find; Maps, Messages, Phone, Safari and Weather. The Uncategorized option is basically all your applications both App Store and jailbroke. The Utilities option has the AppStore, Clock, Cydia, Settings and WinterBoard. The Work option contains Calculator, Calendar, Mail and Notes.

You can move apps to a different category by selecting a category, selecting an app and then selecting which category you would like to more the application to.

I found that there are two features of this application that do not work. The “Create a New Category” option doesn’t seem to work along with the “Disable Dock for apps” option. Not a huge deal since you can arrange the apps in the Categories already created.

Overall, it seems to work fine on 3.0. I haven’t had this app on my iPhone in quite a while and I forgot how fun it was. It brings me back to the early jailbreak days! Now all we need is the screenshot option that it used to have and we would be good to go. You can get Dock via the Ste Packaging source (which also reminds me of back-in-the-day!).

Note: Don’t forget to use the “Restart SpringBoard” button after you make changes in the app’s settings.
