The kewl think about this map is that you can pinch and zoom just like Google Maps. You can zoom way out to see the whole country or way in down to county and city levels. You can also tap “Options” in the top right corner of the site to turn on animation and severe weather overlays and change to different Satellite views.

Another thing you might want to do is make a different web clip with a different city and name them by each city. To do this you have to start over at the i.wund.com and enter the new city. You can’t just zoom to the location and add to homescreen.

I tested it on Brooke’s iPhone, which is a 2nd Gen iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.2.1, and I got this:

It has all the other features like list of map directions, map routing, traffic, satellite & map views, search, and more. You can pinch, zoom, double tap and use in landscape mode too. You can try it out by going http://gjm.google.com/mwm.

If you’re like me, you use the iPhone’s Mail app all the time. But if you use Gmail you should take a look at gmail.com using Safari. There’s been a lot of updates recently and Google is using HTML5 which makes the app really sweet. The video below shows you some of the features and how they look while in use.

This is a web app that I use every day. It’s a nicely iPhone optimized website for Google Reader. Google Reader is one of the best RSS readers I’ve ever used. It’s web based but has a lot of features. You have access to all your feeds indivudually or all at once. You can also star items, share them, email them, add notes, etc. It’s very fast easy to navigate on the iPhone. Tapping the title expands the article with out refreshing the page.

You can also add feeds from the web app. You can just type in the website address and it will automatically find the RSS feed. Google also has prepackaged RSS feeds based on topic that you can add if you don’t have any in mind. To get the site, just go to google.com/reader from your iPhone and it will adapt automatically.

Finally, a feature long overdue! The ability to edit Google spreadsheets from your iPhone or iPod Touch (Android too). This does not include Documents, just Spreadsheets. This is a step in the right direction and will be great for those trying to track spending/budgets, travel/mileage, etc. It’s pretty easy and works well. Features include allowing you to add new rows, edit existing cells, sort by columns, and filter by terms. It would be better if it was a real app but this will do for now.

Even thought I think that the iPhone is the best, I still have things I want fixed. Especially things that just should have always been there like video, MMS, every app in landscape, copy & paste, etc. Well now there is a list of all these “fixes” on a website called “Please Fix the iPhone“. There are both a desktop version and an iPhone version (auto adapts). It’s a huge list with almost 2,000 fixes being wished for. There’s also a list of “Already Fixed.” You can sort though them all sorts of ways and even search the list. Finally, and most importantly you can add your own item to the wish list. Here is a list of the top ten wishes at the time of writing this article.

1. Lack of MMS support. People laugh at my iPhone because its the only phone since 2002 that can’t send or receive picture messages. Why am I ashamed to have the most advanced mobile hardware in the world?
2. Ability to sync without any wires or bluetooth. Why is this USB cable needed for something we have bandwidth for through Wifi, 3G, etc.?
3. Copy and paste.
4. Allow to use the iPhone in landscape in several apps that would benefit from using the larger keyboard like SMS and mail. Also, in safari the phone should also turn to landscape when typing forms (during the act)
5. Ability to view Flash content in Safari.
6. MULTITASKING: Let at least one application run in background by holding down the home button for 5 seconds (10 seconds for killing the application). Flashing icon in statusbar will remember user about reduced battery lifetime.
7. Make the entire screen clickable when I take a picture. Not just the tiny button that is impossible to locate when you try to take a picture of you and your friends. Or maybe make the volume button the shutter button?
8. Video recording.
9. Unwanted standard iPhone application icons can’t be hidden. I’m never going to check stocks.
10. When working with multiple pages in Safari on iPhone, previously loaded pages are sometimes reloaded when you navigate back to them. A setting to increase Safari’s cache limits would be useful especially for ajax web apps, like google reader, that force you to start from the beginning when they are reloaded.

Twitter’s search site, formerly owned by Summize, is something I use everyday to keep up on the latest Twitter trends. It’s really simple. You visit search.twitter.com on your iPhone or iPod touch. You type in your search term and tap search. There’s also an advanced search with more features. At the very bottom of the page there is a list of trending topics.

The results page shows shows you the latest tweets with your search term highlighted in bold. You can also reply or see the original tweet on m.twitter.com. Another kewl feature is when there are new results, you will get a notification at the top of the page and a link to refresh the page. Finally, if you want to start a new search, just tap the Twitter logo at the top of the page.

I’ve used this web app forever and have never written about it so I thought I’d share it with you if you haven’t heard of it. I think it’s the best weather app I’ve seen so far. I’m biased because I use Weather Underground’s full site on my computer. Weather Underground for the iPhone is easy to get to, just go to i.wund.com.

Once there you can type in a city or zip in the search box and find your city.

Once you find it, you can tap on the plus sign in Safari and add it to your home screen. I named mine Underground but weather would work well too. You could even do a few for different cities and name them the city.

The page is broken up into 4 sections: Current, Radar, Forecast & Warnings. Current shows you all kinds of info like conditions, temperature, humidity, wind, even sunrise and sunset.

My favorite is the Radar section. Most important, it allows for animation. It also has three zoom options from Local to Region. There’s even a Severe Weather Overlay.

The Forecast is a list of the next 7 days with icons describing the weather and a small text description. It usually includes sunny or cloudy, precipitation percentage, temperature, wind, and night conditions.

Finally there is a warning section for some areas. This includes tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, etc.

Overall, I think this is the best weather application and runs quick even on slow connections. Best of all, it’s free! Please share your favorite weather app or web app. I’d love to hear what everyone uses to check the weather!
