Now that the iPhone 3GS is jailbreakable, ZodTTD has released version 1.0.0 of psx4iphone. <strike>I don’t see it in Cydia yet, but I’m sure it will show up soon.</strike> We will let you know when we see it. Make sure you have the ZodTTD source installed. Below is what ZodTTD has to say about the release (you will want to read it).

Note: This app will not show up as a new/updated app. However, if you search for it in Cydia, it will be there. Instructions are included in the package description. For more info, read below.

“With the release of the purplera1n jailbreak for the iPhone 3gs, the time has come to release an updated psx4iphone on my public Cydia repo.

I have made this build of the Sony Playstation 1 emulator, psx4iphone, to support all Apple devices running firmware 3.0 and above. Though keep in mind it will run about 300% faster on the iPhone 3gs, allowing for many games to be played. There are still some things to be worked out in the performance department, namely sound emulation slowing things down. If you can live without sound output, you have a mighty fast emulator.

This package is what I termed a “Donate & Download” Cydia package. Donations are very much appreciated, though are optional. By choosing the free option in the donation amount dropdown, you can receive it for free.

So what’s new in psx4iphone v1.0.0? The user interface is now up-to-date with the likes of the Gameboy Advance emulator, gpSPhone. I have implemented save states in addition to memory card saves. Portrait and landscape modes work. Tons of bug fixes have been made to the emulator itself, and I have been working hard on improving compatibility.

Instructions for installing psx4iphone can be found in the Cydia package info. Basically you place a PSX BIOS file and games that you must provide inside /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/PSX/. The BIOS file must be in all lowercase and be named scph1001.bin. For uploading the files on to your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPhone 3gs, I recommend using DiskAid. It sends files over USB allowing for fast transfers. It is also useful as I was not able to get SFTP working on the iPhone 3gs with the purplera1n jailbreak. Reportedly SCP works.

I would really love to see some nice videos of psx4iphone running on the 3gs! If you make one, let me know and link it here.

Hope you enjoy! Thanks,

Well, ZodTTD is at it again. He has got psx4iphone, a PlayStation emulator, running on an iPhone 3GS and says that it is pretty sweet.

“I now have psx4iphone running very speedy on the 3GS. It’s at the point where Final Fantasy 7 is fullspeed at very least without sound. The build is rough around the edges, as you can’t switch games without restarting the emulator, and only memory card saves are currently working, no save states just yet. Both these issues are being worked on.”

Below is a video demo of psx4iphone running on an iPhone 3GS.
Yes, that is right…the title of the application is A Falling Sand Game (which for some reason I find funny! ) This port is brought to us by ZodTTD…who also brought us psx4iphone, quake4iphone, genesis4iPhone, snes4iphone…etc. A Falling Sand Game is similar to EvolutionRGB (one of Doug’s absolute favorite games!)

Yes, that is right…the title of the application is A Falling Sand Game (which for some reason I find funny! ) This port is brought to us by ZodTTD…who also brought us psx4iphone, quake4iphone, genesis4iPhone, snes4iphone…etc. A Falling Sand Game is similar to EvolutionRGB (one of Doug’s absolute favorite games!) which we had in firmware 1.1.4.

So, like EvolutionRGB, the object of the “game” is to manipulate the environment. When the app opens, you can begin by selecting Let The Sand Fall. This will bring you to the main play screen where you see a few options. The little icons represent particles…such as, water, fire, sand, oil, plant, dirt…etc. Each particle responds differently with the rest for example, fire burns plants but water puts out fire. Once you select a particle, just drag your finger on the screen to drag that particle. You can also adjust the size of the particle using the slider bar.

Below the icons, you will see a Menu option. Here you are able to select particle types. When you select them, they are added to the main play screen however, only the most recent six will display on the play screen. So, when you select one it will add the icon to the right and remove the icon farthest to the left on the play screen.

In the menu you also are able to choose from a list of Actions. These include things like, Emit Oil, Emit Water, Freeze Time, Clear Screen…etc. When you select an action, it will cause that action to take place on your play screen. Any “Emit” actions will cause that particle to constantly flow from the top of the screen. If you select Emit Salt, it will begin a constant stream of salt falling from the top of the screen. To stop the Emit action, you have to go back into the Menu and turn it off.

The final option in the Menu is Options which allows you to choose to have a fall-thru bottom on your play screen and to change your play screen to portrait or landscape.

Overall, this app is not EvolutionRGB…but, ZodTTD did develop this app by hand…which I totally give him props for!! If you are into these type of games…it is definitely worth checking out! You can get it via the ZodTTD source.
