We have known about the new features of the iPhone 4.0 firmware since Apple’s OS 4.0 event in April. Jobs reminded us of a few of those features during today’s WWDC Keynote however, below are basics on when the firmware will be available, how much it will cost and who it will be available for.

For those of you dieing to learn more about the iPhone 4 and it’s features, you’re in luck, Apple has already posted a nice little video that quickly runs through some of the new features of the iPhone 4 including; Retina Display, FaceTime, Multitasking, Folders, Mail, Camera/Flash, HD Video, iMovie and info on how the device was created.

Today, during the 2010 WWDC Keynote, Apple announced the new iPhone – the iPhone 4. Below are the basics… when it will be available, where it will be available, how much it will cost, the sizes, the colors… etc.

iBooks
You can now view PDFs in iBooks. We put a little selector right at the top so you can select between books and PDFs. Whole new bookshelf for just PDFs. You can now make notes on your bookmarks.
App Store
Netflix app for the iPhone coming this summer for free. Farmville coming to the iPhone, syncs with Facebook app, released by end of June. Updates to Guitar Hero app with new strumming feature.

It’s 9.3mm thick, 24% thinner than the 3GS. Confirmed front facing camera, LED Flash on back.

Steve Jobs calls friend Jonny Ive over video chat on the iPhone 4. It’s called FaceTime, Wifi only during 2010 until networks can support it, use front or rear camera, switch cameras during call.
iPhone 4 comes in black and white, $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, With AT&T: if your contract expires anytime in 2010, you are immediately eligible for a new iPhone 4 at the same $199 or $299 prices if you top up your contract for 2 years, up to 6 months early eligibility for an iPhone 4.
On sale June 24th, preorders start June 15th, ships in 5 countries: US, France, Germany, UK, Japan.
iPhone 3G now gone, iPhone 3GS $99 for 8GB starting June 24th, 18 more countries in July, 24 more in August, 40 more in September.

New iPhone Announced Today! |
Today should be the big day for the new iPhone to be released. The WWDC, World Wide Developers Conference, is where the other iPhones have been announced and revealed. Of course, this time there was a major leak and we already know what the phone will look like. I’m gonna vote on the name iPhone HD. With the higher resolution screen and higher megapixel camera this makes me think iPhone High Definition sounds good.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. AT&T has gone off the deep end here. They are removing the unlimited data from smartphones, including the iPhone, and the iPad. If you already have unlimited, you can keep it. But is that it? Is it all that simple? No. There are a lot of questions I had and here’s what I’ve found as answers.
New plan changes:
DataPlus – 200 MB of data for $15 per month. If you use more than 200 MB, you’ll receive an additional 200 MB of data usage for $15, replenished as often as necessary during the billing cycle.
DataPro – 2 GB of data for $25 per month. If you exceed 2 GB, you’ll get an additional 1 GB of data for only $10. Each time an additional 1 GB is used up during a cycle, you will automatically receive another 1 GB at the same low price.
This is just the beginning of it all. 200MB of additional data for $15 but the other plan is only $10 for another 1GB (1,000MB). This is just stupid.
New iPad Ordered! |
We’ve finally ordered our new iPad 3G! Usually we have the iPhone right when it comes out but since the iPad costs more it took us a little longer to save up for it. I decided to order the 3G so we can test it out and so we can have data access whenever we need it. I also picked the 16GB version. I, of course, would like to have the 64GB version but for $200 more I decided to save that money to use for the new iPhone 4/4G/HD. Also, I looked at the storage right now on my iPhone 3GS and concluded I’d be fine with only 16GB.
Right now my iPhone has all my music on it that I own. I know, it’s not a lot but it is about 1,400 songs. I don’t think I”ll be putting any music on my iPad. I also have 312 apps which really don’t take a lot of room. My available capacity is 14.7 GB. I originally bought the 32GB iPhone 3GS so I wouldn’t be restricted on taking pictures and video. If I wanted to record a 30min clip, I didn’t want to be limited by space. On the iPad, I won’t be taking pictures or video so I won’t need that extra space. As for watching videos like movies, I probably won’t be ripping videos to my iPad. Most movies we watch are from Redbox so use a laptop or my 24″ iMac.

Steve Jobs was a speaker at the D8 Conference and was asked about everything you could think of. From the lost iPhone to what he does all day. Here are some of the highlights that are related to devices that run iPhone OS.
Removing Google from the iPhone?
Kara asks if Apple might remove Google from the iPhone and iPad. Jobs says no. Again, he notes that Apple is simply trying to make the best products it can and that the market will decide whose is better. “Right now, we have the better product.”
AT&T?
Jobs: “They’re doing pretty good in some ways and in others they could do better. We meet with them once a quarter. Remember, they deal with way more data traffic than anyone else. And they’re having trouble. But they have the fastest 3G network and they’re improving. I wish they were improving faster. … I’m convinced that any other network, had you put the iPhone on it would have had the same problems.”

Previously, Skype for the iPhone would only let you make calls from the iPhone if it was connected to Wifi. Now you can make them even when on the 3G cellular network. It doesn’t say anything about EDGE so I’m guessing it won’t work there. I even got it to work on EDGE. Check the video below. There are also some other improvements with the recent update including enhanced call quality indicator and improved start-up time. See below for a complete list.
Of course there is a catch to all of this. AT&T is only promising this to be a free service until the end of August 2010, then they may charge a small monthly fee.

Since I work as a Technology Manager for a church, I have been tipped off to this video quite a few times. I heard about it earlier this week but I wanted to hold it for Friday Night Movie Night. This whole idea might not make sense to you unless you are part of a worship band and are pulling music every week for each type of instrument. This app, music stand accessory and foot pedal make a great combo for a worship leader or band member. The stand and pedal may work out for any musician or band. Check out the video below.

 Change The Name of Stock/Native and App Store Apps |
Ok, I know this is not new news but I had someone email me asking how to change the name and icon of an app. I was pretty sure it would be easy so I just did a quick search and here’s how to do it.
You can either use SSH from your computer or the iFile app from Cydia to access your folders and files on your iPhone. For this guide I’ll be using iFile right on the iPhone.
First we will be changing an icon for an App Store application. I’ve chosen to change the Tweetie app to the name Twitter. Kind of kewl since Twitter bought Tweetie and will be changing the name in the future.
1. Open iFile and navigate to the var/mobile/Applications folder.
 MatteFusionGZ – WinterBoard Theme |
MatteFusionGZ is a simple and clean WinterBoard theme that contains 70 matte icons, a dock, status bar and badge. There are a few things to note about this theme.
The SMS icon is labeled incorrectly so the themed icon does not display when you active the theme in WinterBoard. To change this, you can ssh into (or use iFile on your device) the /library/Themes/MatteFusionGZ/Icons folder and rename Text.png to Messages.png. It will then display the themed SMS icon.
If you are into the modding scene, the theme does contain a few extra wallpapers as well as an 36 additional icons in a folder titled “more icons.” To take it even further, it also contains a .psd file for the icons.
