Yesterday Joe Hewitt, the developer of the App Store Facebook application, submitted the update to the App Store. So, now it is up to Apple. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for an app to be approved by Apple. We will see if this one gets through faster or not. I don’t know about you guys but, I’m totally stoked for the “new” facebook app! More details are to come later this week!

Instructions:

1. Install FontSwap in Cydia via the BigBoss source. When you install FontSwap, it will also install the FontSwap Starter app.

NOTE: DO NOT ACTUALLY RUN FONTSWAP (I didn’t have any issues when I ran it…some people however, are experiencing issues)

2. Open the FontSwap application.

3. Decide which fonts you wish to use (but do not actually choose any fonts in the app). Ex) LockClock Fonts – Zapfino, Notes Fonts – Calibri

4. Remember the names of the fonts you would like.

5. SSH into your phone. For more info on SSH…please see THESE instructions.

6. Navigate to /private/var/mobile/Library/FontSwap/Packages. Here you will find the folders; Dialer Fonts, LockClock Fonts, Notes Fonts, System Fonts. Inside each of these folders will be the font folders.

7. Open the folder of the font you would like to use. Inside the font’s folder will be a .ttf font file. Copy the file to your computer. Repeat this step for all the fonts you would like to replace.

8. Navigate to /System/Library/Fonts/Cache on your device. This is where all the stock fonts are kept.

9. Backup the stock font you are replacing by either copying it to your computer or renaming it. You will know which font because it is the same name as the font file you copied in step 7. Ex) LockClock.ttf

10. Drag the font(s) that you saved on your computer in step 7 into this directory (/System/Library/Fonts/Cache).

11. Respring and you’re done!

I tested this method and I was able to change my fonts (see screenshots below) and put them back to the stock fonts with no problem. You can see the original thread for the instructions HERE. I honestly haven’t written about the app is quite some time however, people are wondering if it has been updated for the 3.0 firmware yet. A few days ago, the developer released a beta version of both SkrewCommon (a code app that is needed in order to run vWallpaper) and vWallpaper. It is a manually install and there are a few bugs still such as; the device will not go into sleep mode and sometimes the video wallpaper will not restart after closing an application. If you would like to give it a try, check out THIS post for the links and instructions.

I have a feeling he has made a lot of iPhone 3GS users happy with the new feature. He also said, “Nothing like a few bazillion emails, tweets, and blog comments to motivate you to sneak in a few extra features at the last minute.” We don’t know what the “few extra features” are but, so far, he is off to a great start!

One cool new feature of the 3.0 firmware is the ability to send more than one photo or screenshot (or any image that is on your iPhone or iPod Touch) at a time via email. The guide will show you how to quickly use Apple’s built in feature that allows you to email up to five image and how to email more then five images. This is a feature I LOVE and use all the time so, I thought I would make sure everyone knows how to use it! Below are step-by-step instructions.

1. Open your stock Photos application.

2. Select your Camera Roll (thought this can be done with any images in your Photo Albums).

3. Select the mail icon in the lower left corner.

4. You will now see the options Share, Copy and Delete on a lower menu bar.

5. Tap on an image you would like to email. This will add a red check mark in the lower right corner of the image.

6. Tap on any additional images you would like to email.

Note: If you use the Share button, you can only choose 5 images however, if you would like to email more than five images, you can select Copy.

7. If you select the Share option, you can then select email and it will open an email with the images in the body of the email.
This version of Backgrounder is for firmware 3.0 and above. If you are on 2.2.1 or below make sure you DO NOT upgrade. The update also only enables the basic backgrounder feature…there are no extra features at this time. The developer says it will take some time to get the features working on the 3.0 firmware.

To enable Backgrounder, just open an application and then hold the Home Button. You will get a nice pop-up saying that Backgrounder in enabled. You can then close the app by giving your Home Button a quick tap. To disable Backgrounder, open the application back up and hold the Home Button. You will get a pop-up saying that Backgrounder has been disabled.

Because there are no features, you will just have to remember which apps you have running in the background….we are going old school. Remember, leaving apps running in the background will affect your battery life!

I know there are mixed feelings about the new search feature of the 3.0 firmware, Spotlight. Some people love it, some people hate it! I have even had people ask me how to get rid of it (you can’t – at least not yet). Either way, many people are a little confused on what exactly Spotlight searches. Below is a list of exactly what is searched by Spotlight.

You can also choose to turn on/off what Spotlight searches. If you go into your Setting application and then the General option and then the Home option, you will see a “Search Results.” If you tap on that, you have the option to turn on/off Spotlight search for; Contacts, Applications, Music, Podcasts, Video, Audiobooks, Notes, Mail and Calendar. You can change the order in which things are displayed in the search results by moving them around in the list. If you move Calendar to the top of the list, it will display all your calendar results first in the Spotlight search. If you move Mail below Calendar in the Settings, it will display your Calendar results first and then your Mail results…and so on.

One of the main reasons I will use Spotlight is to find applications. I can just search for the app I am looking for and then launch it directly from the search by tapping on it! No more looking through pages of apps for me!

Let us know in the comments how you feel about Spotlight and what you use it for most?
