Some of you might not see the update for SBSetting and Categories based on when you jailbroke (because then you would already have the new versions) but, both apps were recently updated. They both currently worked on firmware 3.0 so, neither received a very signifcant update, mostly bug fixes. Below are the change logs for both.
• Added some debugging info for some crashing some folks are seeing
• Added some permission changes to some folders to “guess” what some crashing may be as a long shot [Read more...]

NES 3 is NES “rewritten” and upgraded. According to the developer the game has been “rewritten from scratch and optimized supporting the iPhone 3.0.” So, while you wait for the rest of your apps to be updated for firmware 3.0, at least you can play ROMS. There is one catch, the app is no longer free…it costs $5.99. No free trial either. Also, the it currently only works in portraite mode (landscape mode is coming in the future). [Read more...]

Tricker ThreeG is a mod that allows the SlingPlayer Mobile application (available via the App Store for $29.99) to work on not only WiFi but also on 3G. It is not very often that I write about an application/mod/hack that I cannot test but, I know that allowing SlingPlayer Mobile to work on 3G is something a lot of people want. If you you own a SB, have purchased the SlingPlay Mobile application and have installed this hack…let us know how it is working for you! It would be pretty sweet if it actually works. The Tricker ThreeG apps also says that it works with Skype and Fring. You can get it via the modmyi source.
It seems that yellowsn0w has been updated to version 0.9.5 beta. The Dev Team says that the update should, “fix quite a few problems including some STK issues.” They also suggest that everyone update to the newest version of yellowsn0w. For more info – check out the Dev Team’s website. Let us know in the comments if the update fixes any of the problems you were having.
Below is a Video demo from MuscleNerd from the DevTeam. It shows his iPhone 3G sim locked and then shows the iPhone being unlocked via a soft-unlock which they are calling yellowsn0w..check it out below.
There is no information on when this will be available for the rest of us The unlock will be released New Year’s Eve! We will keep an eye on the Dev Team’s website.
The dev team has announced the completion of the iPhone 3G unlock on their website, blog.iphone-dev.org. They will are planning to release the unlock via QuickPwn or BootNeuter by New Year’s Eve. You must be running baseband 2.11.07 or earlier. That means if you’ve upgraded firmware since 2.1 without using a tool that creates a custom firmware then you’ll have to wait until they get the newer baseband unlocked. Others who will also be waiting are 2nd Generation iPod Touch owners. Work on it’s jailbreak won’t begin until at least 2009. Finally, if you’re having troubles with the latest OS X 10.5.6 update there are some possible fixes. There are try at your own risk: [Read more...]
The iPhone rumor mill is hot with a rumor that AT&T is now allowing for at home activation of the iPhone 3G. It seems that AT&T is now allowing the purchase of the 3G iPhone online and then instead of going to an AT&T store to activate it, you are able to activate it via iTunes. Now, I have read quite a few article about this rumor and have done some research on AT&T’s website (as well as talked to a AT&T rep – see below). Every article I have read says that it is an “unconfirmed” report BG has the most convincing report saying,
“While we haven’t spoken to any of our ninjas to confirm this yet, we did speak to three customer service reps as well as someone in the office of the President – each confirming that at-home activation is a go.”
I have updated the information for this article (see Update section), it seems that it is definitely an iTunes activation process….please read below. [Read more...]
The dev team has released some info over the last week that shows progress on the software unlock for the iPhone 3G. There’s a video and screenshot below and you can read more at their site at blog.iphone-dev.org. We’ll make sure to keep an eye on it and let you know as soon as the unlock becomes available.
Guys…I’m soo excited. I sat down to write a few posts as we travel and what happens, I look down and I have 3G on my iPhone!!! We do not have 3G where we live (we are supposed to have it no later than Thanksgiving) but we are currently going through Minneapolis, Minnesota and for the first time we have 3G!! YAY!! So, I took a few screenshots and Doug did a quick network test using iNetwork Test (an App Store app). We are currently getting around 1304kbps download where we normally get between 50-150kps. So…I was totally excited. It is amazing what a difference there is when you have 3G!! Everything seems to run faster…even just loading all my text messages! Let us know in the comments what you think of your 3G or lack there of!
As we were traveling today, we learned that the Dev Team had some new info about the progress of the iPhone 3G unlock. We are finally settled for the night so, I thought I would let you know what the Dev Team has posted on their blog today. Though they have made progress, they still do not have any estimation on when there will be a software unlock available for the iPhone 3G.
“Here’s a screenshot of a 3G iPhone whose baseband has been modified. And even though it’s modified — and fails the integrity check — it’s still running. Can you guess where the patch was made?
As many of you know, Doug and I both are fans of OtterBox iPhone cases. In the past we have done a reviews of both the Defender and Armor Series Cases. Until just recently, the cases were not available for the iPhone 3G. However, you are now able to get the Defender Series case for the iPhone 3G. It is currently only available in black but will soon be available in White, Pink and Yellow/Black. Not only that, it seems they have improved the case from the first version. Below is a snippet from the press release; [Read more...]
Doug and I had been discussing a few days ago how quickly the iPhone 3G’s battery goes dead…I will say, with confidence, that the first gen iPhone’s battery life is much better than the iPhone 3G’s battery life!! Well, the next day, Doug sent me a link to a solar powered iPhone 3G case! It seems that the guys over at Mobile Fun feel our pain and have developed a case that can recharge your iPhone 3G using direct sunlight. According to Solar Feeds, it will take around 3 hours to charge the battery on your iPhone 3G to a level in which your iPhone can function. It would take around 10 hours to fully charge your iPhone 3G. It also comes with a mini USB option in case you do not have any direct sunlight. Overall, [Read more...]
So I was really bummed out when I heard that NetShare got booted from the App Store. So I was going to write all about it and I decided on a whim to check the App Store and it was there! I bought it right away just in case something happens again. (good thing I did, they pulled it again) For those who don’t know, NetShare shares your 3G or EDGE with your laptop through WiFi.
The app comes with a guide on how to connect your iPhone with your Mac but no guide for Windows. There’s also a really good Mac guide over at appleinsider.com. I’m using Windows (unfortunately) so I went looking for a guide. I found lots of info over at macrumors.com like how to get Firefox to work, how to route all network traffic through your iPhone, and what I was really looking for… a Windows XP guide which even has a video walkthrough which is posted below. I even found a video guide for Mac and Vista. [Read more...]
