Google It seems that Google has added a new “iPhone Apps” category to their mobile search. When searching for something in Google, using Safari on your device, you are now able to select an iPhone Apps option in the More drop down menu. When you select the iPhone Apps option, it displays a list of iPhone apps relevant to your Google search. The icon, price, star rating, number of reviews, and short description are displayed for each app result. If you select one of the apps, it brings you directly to that application in the App Store on your device. Pretty cool. Check out the screenshots below.

Apple I’m sure most of you have already heard about the fact that Apple has released their App Store Guidelines (especially since I know you all watched episode 19 of i101!) but, just in case you haven’t I thought I would mention on AiS too. Yesterday, Apple released their App Store Guidlines allowing developers to have a better understanding of how apps are accepted and rejected from the App Store. Below is a list of some of the main guidelines. The entire document contains 113 guidelines each of which are broken down and specifically explained. Read more

SkypeIt’s taken a little over 4 years and 4 iPhone but it is finally here! Skype on your iPhone just like a phone call. You can sign in and then close the app and when a call comes in, it rings! You can also close the app while you’re on a call and stay connected! These are features we’ve all been waiting for! Now I know Skype has been out for the iPhone before, but this is the way it always should have worked.

Now I don’t use Skype that much so this is kinda kewl. I only really use it to talk to a friend in Brazil every couple months. I sure some of you use it on a daily basis. So, let’s find out! Read more

Pandora Pandora updated their iPhone app to finally support running in the background. It’s using Apple’s new APIs to keep the audio streaming in the background but close down the rest of the app to save battery life. It worked well on my iPhone 3GS and the new iPod controls in the dock now support Pandora when it’s open.

Backgrounding this app only works on iOS 4 which means it doesn’t background on the iPad. Below is what it looks like.

Byline As you can imagine… I love blogs. I not only love my informational, news, iPhone, hacking blogs but I also love my mom, cooking, baking, decorating blogs. I know… it can be a strange combination at times. So, like every blogaholic, I need a good RSS reader application. I have found Byline to nicely suit my needs and after today’s update to the app (version 3.0)… I just had to pass it along.

I’m not going to walk you through every feature and detail of this app (you can check out the below App Store Description for that) but, I will point out a few things that I like about it.

Craigsphone Update – New Features & Improved UI

Available In: App Store Price: $4.99

Craigsphone I have to admit… I have recently become a slight craigslist addict and Craigsphone is my app of choice. Yesterday, the app received an update. The update is a vast improvement over the previous version. Where things used to look messy and thrown together they now look sleek and clean… even the icon has a new look!

Today ToDo Pro – Unique ToDo Application

Available In: App Store Price: $3.99

Today ToDo Pro Doug recorded this review a couple days ago (I’m sure why he didn’t post it… probably because of the light in the background that I forgot to turn off!). Either way, I really like Today ToDo Pro so I thought I would pass it along. I am constantly on the quest for the perfect todo app and this one really sticks out among the rest. The interface is simple and very unique, it has the features I’m looking for in a todo app and it is well designed. Check out Doug’s video review below.

Live Cams

Available In: App Store Price: $1.99

Live Cams Live Cams is one of the few apps that make it right on the front page of my iPhone. I’ll tell you the reason right up front before the entire review. I only use a few of their features but there are many more. So why is it on my front page? Because when opening the app, I can customize it to show thumbnails of the camera’s I’ve added myself. I’ve got it set to show 8 cameras all at once, then I tap on a camera to see it full screen. This way I can monitor all of our cameras at work from anywhere. The reason I can do this is because the app lets you customize what tab gets opened when the app loads.

settings

Now for some of the many features offered by this app. The first tab is the search tab. Once opened you see a list of presorted categories of cameras. If you’re looking for a camera in your locations or of a specific topic not on list there is a custom search button in the top right. This is more like an advanced search not just giving you the option to type in your search but from what category, country, state, and more. For the example below, I did a search for Hawaii.

Mixing Bowl – Cooking Application

Available In: App Store Price: Free

Mixing Bowl I will admit, I may have a slight addiction to recipe applications. I just love the ease of using my iPhone while cooking (though, I am occasionally concerned for it’s safety!). So, when I came across a relatively new application titled Mixing Bowl, I installed it on the spot! The Mixing Bowl application is based off the website MixingBowl.com (which I had not indulged in prior to installing the iPhone application). I found MixingBowl.com to be an upbeat, social cooking website that is largely member maintained.

In order to use the Mixing Bowl iPhone application, you will need to become a member of MixingBowl.com. Normally I’m not big on apps that require you to become a member in order to use them but, I make exceptions for cooking apps! :)
