iCountry is a simple application that allows you to quickly view the basic info for all European Countries.

Once you navigate your way through the alphabetically list of the European countries and find the one you are looking for, you are able to view; the Capital, Official Language, Anthem, Area, Currency, Calling Code, a map of the country, the national flag of the country and the coat of arms for the country. You are also provided with a direct link to that country’s info on Wikipedia so you are able to find out more about the specific country.

There is one improvement I would love to see in this app… it would be nice if the map of the country opened in Google Maps within the actual application itself instead of launching the stock Maps app. Other than that… the app provides basic info in an easy to navigate manner.

Tripod Camera is a multifunctional camera application containing features such as; Anti-Tilt, Anti-Shake, Timer, Full Screen Shutter, Vibrate mode, Fast Saving, 4x Digital Zoom, Tap-to-Focus (3GS only) and the ability to share photos.

In the settings of the application, you are able to turn on/off Anti-Tilt, Anti-Tilt, Anti-Shake, Time, Full Screen Shutter, Vibrate mode and Fast Saving. Each of these option have great descriptions in the settings… props for that!

On the main photo screen you are able to take a picture, zoom in on an image (1x – 4x digit zoom) and preview photos. When you are previewing photos you can easily share them on twitter, facebook, momo or via email. There is also a Tap-to-Focus option (3GS only) that can be enabled/disabled in the stock Settings application under the Tripod Camera option.

I found the Anti-tilt feature to work really well actually, all the features worked really well. I had a little trouble figuring out how the Anti-Shake feature worked but, that was total user error. You have to actually touch the Snap button and then it will automatically take the picture as soon as your iPhone is steady. I keep just waiting for it to take the picture without tapping the Snap button. My bad!

I also like the little features this app contains such as the hand at the top of the screen that tells you when your device is steady. It also displays the current zoom level and if you have a specific option turned on such as the Full Screen Shutter option.

Overall, Tripod Camera is a very nicely deigned and extrememly user friendly application. One of the better camera apps I have reviewed.

It is currently on sale for an introductory price of $1.99.

This app is very simple… enter keywords and you will be notified via a free text message when those items become available on one of the five woot sites.

How to use Woot Buzz:
Go to the Search option on the lower menu bar, enter a keyboard (or words), select your carrier and hit Save. You will get a pop-up saying that you will be notified when that keyword is available on woot. It will take around 30 seconds for your keyword to show up in the Keywords section of the app. You can turn the app on/off and delete keywords in the Keywords option on the lower menu bar.

This application does not have a stellar design, it’s pretty simple, but it could definitely be a useful application especially coming into the Holiday season! Now, you don’t have to check all the woot sites everyday… you can get a text when the things you actually want go for sale! w00t!

MotionDrum is a pretty cool drum simulator. The thing that makes this application unique is how you play the drums. Instead of just tapping buttons on the screen, the applications takes advantage of the built-in accelerometer. You are able to easily play four percussion instruments by moving your iPhone up, down, left and right.

The app contains 40 different instruments to choose from ranging from three different bass drums options to a shaker to a three different varieties of a Tom. The set-up process is quick and easy… just choose which instrument you would like for each of the four motions (down, up, left and right) then select the volume and the sensitivity for each motion.

You can also turn on (and adjust the volume) of a Hit-Hat to help you keep a rhythm at a tempo of your choice.

Once everything is set-up… let the air drumming begin. You will want to be sure to hold your iPhone in the correct position (see screenshots or demo video). It took me a few tries to get the hang of it and to get everything adjusted (the different sensitivities and volumes) to what worked best for me but, it was totally worth it… that app is seriously fun to play!

Another great feature is that you can choose music from your iPod and play along with it.

Overall, the application doesn’t have knock-you-off-your-feet graphics but, the sound quality is good and it is totally fun to play! The $0.99 price tag is an introductory half-price sale so you might want to pick it up while it is still cheap.

Historic Earth is a unique mapping application that allows you to overlay historic maps on modern maps. The application uses the Historic Map Works, ” the world’s largest online collection of geo-coded historic maps,” database to find historical maps for cities and States around the United States.

Historic Earth allows you to map your current location, view features locations or search for a specific location.

Once a location has been found, you are given a list of the historic maps available for that specific location. When you select a map it will overlay the historic map on top of the current modern map. You can fade back a forth between the historic map and the modern map using the slider bar at the bottom of the page. This allows you to compare and contrast the two maps. You can also scroll, pan and zoom any map to explore it further. Quickly switch to the next map in the list by using the arrows at the top of the page.
