RedLaser (an application that scans the barcode of a product and then searches online for that product and it’s prices) is not a new application it has been in both the App Store and the jailbreak community for a while now however, the App Store version of the application recently received an update. The update was in review for quite some time and finally made it through the approval process. Version 2.2.0 of the app drastically improves RedLaster’s performance making it as good as the jailbroke version! Actually, with a few of the new features, I would say it is now better than the jailbroke version of the app.

Robotvision, an augmented reality application, is now available in the App Store. A few days ago we covered the app and were awaiting it’s release. Well, wait no more, you can now pick it up for just $0.99 in the App Store. Below is the demo video for those of you who missed it the first time… a pretty sweet app.

Today Starbucks released their official application, myStarbucks however they also released Starbucks Card Mobile. At first I thought the app looked slightly uneventful but then I took a closer look.

Robotvision is an augmented reality application. A quick wiki definition of Augmented Reality – “a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with-, or augmented by virtual computer-generated imagery – creating a mixed reality”
I got an email about this application and was instantly intrigued. I think these type of applications are just crazy! Think… you are walking down the sidewalk on your lunch break and you decide to hit-up a coffee shop but you are feeling adventurous and want to branch out from the one you usually go to so, you whip out your iPhone, open Robotvision and select the Coffee Shop option… you hold up your iPhone and as you walk down the sidewalk it begins to display all the surrounding coffee shops (in your actual “physical environment”)… you turn to the right and it displays the coffee shops that are down that street, you turn to the left and it displays the coffee shops that are down that street. Connected is a highly entertaining puzzle game that is a unique blend of ParkingLot and RailWater. The object of the game is to connect the two pipes by correctly arranging the pieces of pipe provided. This seems like a simple enough task except that each pipe can only be moved into spaces not already occupied by another pipe.
The game has 4 levels each of which contain 10 games so, 40 games in all… with a promise of additional editions of the game coming soon. Each level gets progressively more difficult and thus more addictive! The developer even lays out a challenge to anyone who can complete level 40; “If you can complete puzzle 40 let us know. Email connectedapp@me.com with your name, location, and a screenshot to prove it, and we’ll add you to our Connected hall of fame. Today, yahoo released an official Flickr application. the app is well designed for the iPhone and iPod touch and does allow for some basic Flickr functionality. The first time you open the app, you will need to login to your account and authorize the application. These are both done in Safari… it would have been nice if it would have been built into the app.
Once you are all setup you can view your photo stream, tags, sets, favorites, contacts, recent activity, leave comments, search Flickr, mark images as favorites, upload photos and videos, edit photos and videos…etc (check out the App Store description below). [Read more…]

Tonight, Skype was update to version 1.2. The new version adds quite a few new features (see change log below). When you update the app, it adds has a nice little pop-up when you open the application that says, “This version of Skype is only supported on unmodified iPhone OS 2.2 and 3.0.” The application will still work on a modified OS however, they will not support it if you are having issues. So, if you have a jailbroke iPhone or iPod touch, you can update and the app will still work but don’t run to them for tech support… they might turn you down. [Read more…]

Facebook has been update to version 3.01… not to be confused with the upcoming 3.1 update. Version 3.01 is just some bug fixes, no new features this time around. The bug fixes include bugs with birthdays, timestamps, friend list crashing… etc. If you are having problem with your notifications, you will have to hold out a little longer, that is a server issues not a bug in the application itself.
