AppStore Apps Crashing – Restore

It has been a few days since I have been able to catch up on iPhone news, as those of you who follow Doug or my Twitter know (ahhyeah and bporter), I’m not feeling well lately! Well today, I was taking a look at the list of 25 top free apps and was suprised to see one that I was very familiar with…Earth3D. Well, I installer Earth3D however, when I went to open it, it just crashed back to the SpringBoard. So, I decided to go try another application…which crashed as well. This is on my personal iPhone (not one of our test iPhones) so, it only has the AppStore and is not jailbroken. I did notice that I was having some issues last night while recording our video podcast but didn’t think anything of it. Well, it seems that ALL my AppStore apps are crashing, not a single app will stay open. So, after trying a few fixes, wishing my iPhone was jailbroken so I had SSH access and finally giving up…I ended up restoring. And like Doug, will be jailbreaking my 2.0.1 firmware using WinPwn 2.0.0.4. I’m curious to know if anyone else has had this problem and if you were able to fix it or ended up restoring.

PosiMotion – Bringing a Variety of Applications to the AppStore

PosiMotion is set to have four application available in the App Store on July 11th, with Backgammon and G-Life coming soon. The four apps that will be available the day of the launch include; G-Spot, G-Park, Top 3 Solitaire and Pool. What I find to be interesting (and exciting) is that this is yet another list of applications that includes apps that were previously available through the Installer. Where Tapulous is bringing us Tap Tap Revenge and Twinkle, PosiMotion is bringing us Top 3 Solitaire and Pool. Top 3 Solitaire, better known as iSolitaire by Chris Miles, and Pool, the pool application that we all love, will both be available via the App Store. There seems to be some cool changes to both apps however, there is no indication as to the cost of the apps. Below is more info and screenshots.

PosiMotion is also set to release two of their own applications; G-Spot and G-Park. Both look like they are going to be pretty nice applications that might just be on the “Need to Purchase” list. Though, there is no indication of the cost of either of these applications. Below, you will find more info and screenshots of G-Spot and G-Park.

G-Park by PosiMotion is simple parking application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It will be available via the App Store when it launches on July 11th. There is no indication of a price for the application. Below is more info and screenshots.

G-Park in three easy steps:

1. Park your car and hit the Park Me! button.
2. Get lost.
3. Hit the Where Did I Park? button. Brings up Google maps and creates turn-by-turn directions that will take you right back to your car!

G-Park also provides an easy-to-use interface for additional details.

G-Spot by PosiMotion is a position sharing application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It will be available via the App Store when it launched on July 11th. There is no indication of a price for the application. Below is more info and screenshots.

The Compass:
Shows you what direction you are currently heading.

Spot Me:
A shortcut to pinpointing your current location instantly in Google Maps.
Also creates a log of most recent locations.

Share:
Instantly email your current location. The email contains a link that when clicked, takes you into Google Maps and shows your exact location. Friends trying to find where you’re at? Hit “Share” and email it to them, they can pull your exact location right up and get directions.

Info:
Latitude, Longitude, Altitude, Heading, Speed, Accuracy, Date and Time of the most recent location update.

Mr. Sudoku – App Store

Mr. Sudoku by Ambrosia Software Inc (who is also bringing us Aki Mahjong Solitaire and Mondo SolitaireMondo Solitaire). Below what they have to say about the application and a short Demo Video. You can see screenshots of the app HERE.

Ambrosia Software, Inc. presents another of their first iPhone games, Mr. Sudoku. Available when the App Store launches for $9.99 and written specifically for the iPhone and iPod touch, Mr. Sudoku is a game truly meant to be played on a mobile device.

Sudoku is an addictive, logic-based number placement puzzle game. Each puzzle starts with a partially completed grid that you’ll have to solve. The object is to insert numbers in the boxes so that each column, row, and each of the nine boxes contain the digits from 1 to 9 exactly one time only.

Bomberman Touch – AppStore

In the past we have told you that Bomberman Touch from Hudson Soft (who is also bringing us Aqua Forest and Suduko) would be coming to the AppStore. However, we finally have a video demo of the application. Below is a short description of Bomberman Touch and the demo video.

You control Bomberman as he goes across each stage to defeat his opponents! Gizmodo’s App Contest

Gizmodo is holding a “contest” to find iPhone applications. It includes both AppStore and Installer applications. Here is what they have to say:

You’re proud of the work you’ve put into your iPhone SDK application. Show us what you did. Email your entry to tips@gizmodo.com with the subject “iPhone SDK App Contest: Name of App” with the name of your app there. Each entry should include screenshots (as many as it takes to properly illustrate your program) as well as a 1 paragraph description telling us what it’s all about. We’ll showcase the best ones here for the world to gawk at.

We also know that there are tons of very cool applications such as Sling that might not even be approved by Apple as an official SDK app. That’s why we’re taking entrants for unofficial (jailbroken) apps as well. Send those in to tips@gizmodo.com with the subject “iPhone Unofficial App Contest: Name of App”. Essentially, we’ll be getting a weird kinda sorta head-to-head that pits bigger name companies/development teams against hackers.

However, I’m not sure why it is labeled a contest. I did not see any reference to prizes. Though, the best applications will be displayed on Gizmodo’s website. So, if you are a developer, it might be something worth checking out.

Urbanspoon Meets the iPhone – AppStore

Urbanspoon is a website that provides information and reviews for restaurants. The restaurants are based on location. Well, they have taken this concept and created it into an application for the iPhone.

“We wanted to take advantage of the physicality of the iPhone, so we’re using the accelerometer,” said Urbanspoon co-founder Ethan Lowry. “So we’ve developed an application for the iPhone that’s part slot machine, part Magic 8-Ball.”

So far, the application includes restaurant information for 38 locations in the US and 3 in Canada. The best part is that it will be free. Check out the demo video below.

Edit Excel Files on the iPhone

Mariner Software is bringing a long awaiting application to the AppStore. Mariner Calc for the iPhone is an application that allows you to edit Excel documents right on your iPhone.

“According to Michael Wray, president of Mariner Software, the program is 80 to 90 percent complete and will include a number of impressive features, including the ability to view and edit Excel files in their native file format—no conversion needed. The CocoaTouch application will support spreadsheets up to 1,000,000 rows and 32,000 columns in size, as well as multiple sheets per document. It will even include support for charts and objects.

The application is not quite finished yet and there is no indication of how much is it going to cost however, I have a feeling this is going to be an anticipated application especially among the business realm.

Bomberman Touch, Aqua Forest and Sudoku – AppStore

Hudson Soft is creating three application that will be available via the AppStore – Bomberman Touch, Aqua Forest and Suduko. Bomberman and Sudoku are the classic games ported to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Aqua Forest is a collaborative work between Hudson Soft and Prometech Software. It is a “innovative software featuring the 2D multi physics engine ‘OctaveEngine™ Casual’.” Below is a description of the application and video demo.

Tilt and tip your handset to play the game with an accelerative sensor. As you advance through the game, trees grow rapidly! Draw a picture on the touch panel and use various effects (water dropping, fire, etc.) to change its shape. “OctaveEngine™Casual” makes entirely innovative gameplay possible!
