iPhone 3G S from AT&T: Pricing and Availability Info Video

AT&TAT&T has posted a new video about the iPhone 3G S. I like what the first comment says:

Nothing is mentioned about how AT&T wants to charge $500 or $600 dollars for existing iPhone 3G users. Why can’t existing customers pay $200 or $300 like new customers? Nothing like screwing those who have been paying quite a bit already… Please reconsider and realize how poorly this looks on AT&T and get ready for the strong blogger response… Just another example of a company missing their mark and screwing the existing customer base. Why does AT&T try to hide this fact?

UPDATED: Existing iPhone 3G Customers have to pay$499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)

AT&TThis could be bad news for AT&T Customers. At the bottom of this page at Apple’s site you will see prices for replacing an iPhone 3G. Hopefully this is not accurate or we are misunderstanding it…

For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB).

Thanks to our writer, JMCato for the tip!

I went to Apple’s website at buyiphone.apple.com to check my eligibility and here’s what I got:

$299.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
$399.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
$499.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)

I’ve been with AT&T since June 2007 when the first iPhone was released and bought the iPhone 3G for $199 in July of 2008.

Text Message from AT&T

AT&T Today I received a nice text message from AT&T. It told me that if I upgrade to the newest software, I will receive “fewer dropped calls, improved battery life and get the latest enhancements to Maps, Mail and Safari.” It then went on to say exactly what I needed to do in order to upgrade. There are a few things I find strange about this text message…one, firmware 2.2.1 has been out since the end of January two, Doug’s grandma also received the same text message a few days ago (she is on firmware 2.2…as am I) however, neither Doug nor his grandfather received the text message (they are on 3.0 beta 2 and 2.2.1). This leads me to believe they are only sending it to people who are not on 2.2.1 or above. I’m curious to know if you also received the text message from AT&T and what firmware you are on. Contract Free iPhone From AT&T

AT&TAT&T has officially confirmed the rumors of a contract free iPhone. The price is steep but if you’re interested, the 8GB is $599 and the 16GB is $699 and will be available March 26th. On the other end of the price spectrum you can get a refurbished iPhone on AT&T’s site right now for $99 or $199, depending on the size. That, of course, requires a 2 year contract. This all feeds the idea of a new iPhone coming early this summer.

AT&T Data Network Down

AT&TIf you’ve been wondering why your iPhone won’t connect to AT&T’s data network today, you wern’t the only one. According to Engadget.com and chicagobreakingnews.com, a power grid went down in Michigan which shut down data services in parts of the Midwest. My grandfather who uses a AT&T USB adapter to connect his laptop to the internet said he couldn’t connect this morning and it was about 5:30pm when my iPhone reconnected to EDGE. During that time my iPhone would show that it was connected to 3G but it wouldn’t actually work. Below is part of a press release from AT&T and a screenshot from my iPhone during the outage. If you are still having troubles, try restarting your iPhone by completely powering off your iPhone and turning it back on. Thanks to everyone on Twitter for keeping informed of the outages. iPhone 3G Available for At Home Activation?

The iPhone rumor mill is hot with a rumor that AT&T is now allowing for at home activation of the iPhone 3G. It seems that AT&T is now allowing the purchase of the 3G iPhone online and then instead of going to an AT&T store to activate it, you are able to activate it via iTunes. Now, I have read quite a few article about this rumor and have done some research on AT&T’s website (as well as talked to a AT&T rep – see below). Every article I have read says that it is an “unconfirmed” report BG has the most convincing report saying,

“While we haven’t spoken to any of our ninjas to confirm this yet, we did speak to three customer service reps as well as someone in the office of the President – each confirming that at-home activation is a go.”

I have updated the information for this article (see Update section), it seems that it is definitely an iTunes activation process….please read below. [Read more…]

Free WiFi at AT&T Hotspots Including Starbucks!

AT&T Rumor has it that people have been getting text messages from AT&T saying that their iPhone has free WiFi access at AT&T hotspots…including Starbucks. Well, this morning both Doug and I received that exact text message. If you click on the link in the text message you get a webpage with more info (see screenshots below). At the bottom of the webpage there is another link titled, “Get started with AT&T WiFi.” When selected, it gives you exact instructions on how to connect to the WiFi. So, we decided to check it out.
