Cydia Gets Fancy – New (Animated) Graphics

iconchangeanim

Cydia Well, it seems that I have missed a very cool new feature in Cydia. When you are on the Home option (on the lower menu bar) in Cydia, you get a menu with options such as Featured Packages, More Packages Source, F.A.Q…etc. If you select the Featured Packages option, you get a nice list of the featured applications (sponsored, free, commercial…etc). Everything seems normal but, wait until you select one of the apps…things get all crazy! :)

When you select one of the featured apps, keep your eye on the icon in the upper right corner. Yes, it was totally animated…switching from the icon that represents what category the app is in to the application’s actual icon. Not only is it cool that it is animated but, I love that you now get to see the app’s actual icon instead of the generic icon that represents what category the app is in! This is currently implemented in all the apps in the Featured Packages section as well as the sources in the More Package Sources section. Though, I heard through the grape vine that this is going to work it’s way into more areas of Cydia! Very cool! Cydia is like all fancy now! :) [Read more...]

Cydia Update 1.0.2684-40

cydia102684-40
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Cydia I was surprised to open Cydia and see any update for Cydia itself! The update to version 1.0.2684-40 of Cydia does make some nice changes to the application.

The first change I noticed was that when you select an application in Cydia, there have been a few changes to the look of the package Details page. The first change you will notice is that the icon, title of the app and version of app are now at the top of the page. Below this, there is now a new option; Change Package Settings. This option allows you to turn on/off Show All Changes. It says that the Changes option (on the lower menu bar) will only show upgrades to installed packages however, you can turn on Show All Changes for any application that you do not have installed to see any changes made to it as well. The other new addition to the package details page is nice new icons next to each section! Which I think look great!! [Read more...]

MacCiti Themes – Screenshots of Themes in the MacCiti Source

a8stractntwmc
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard I recently wrote a post about MacCiti, a new source, which is available for install via Cydia. MacCiti is a theme source which means it contains mostly themes, ringtones and wallpapers. So, I thought I would take a look at what they have to offer.

Honestly, it took WAY longer than I thought to install all the themes, get screenshots of each theme and organize them into a post. So, I apologize for not having this post out sooner. The screenshots are exactly what each theme looks like. I did not do any modding to individual themes which means, I did not turn on the transparent dock or turn off icon labels or check icon files to see if they were spelled wrong if they didn’t show up correctly in the theme. So basically, I didn’t do anything to make the theme look it’s absolute best (which I must add, drove me crazy!!). But, you will see what each theme looks like and it’s potential! Below are screenshots of most of the themes that are available via the MacCiti source…that way, you can decide if you would like to install it or not. [Read more...]

Cydia Sources There were two new sources available to be installed through Cydia in the last few days. One was Sleepers.net and the other was MacCiti. Sleepers.net is a source that includes third-party software and themes. This source is maintained by Stan Weatherby (stan@weatherbytech.com). The second source, MacCiti, is a primarily a theme source and is maintained by Michael Babiy (michael.babiy@yahoo.com). [Read more...]

Updated F.A.Q Page – How to add sources to Cydia.

AiS Well, after a long night of travel last night, we reached our destination. So today, with a little bit of down time before all the Christmas craziness begins, I have updated another guide on our f.a.q page. It is a detailed guide on how to add sources to Cydia. This includes step-by-step instructions on how to install additional sources using Cydia and how to manually add your own sources to Cydia. You can check out the How to Add Sources to Cydia guide HERE. If you are looking for more source…check out our Sources Page. It contains a list of sources available for both Cydia and Installer.

F.A.Q Page – How to Install an Application using Cydia.

AiS I added another guide to our f.a.q page. This is a very basic guide on how to install applications using Cydia. I will continue to add more guides on how to use Cydia as I update the f.a.q page to be more firmware 2.x friendly…not that all those Installer guides aren’t useful! :)

WinterBoard Mods

retrophonedialerkeypad
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard There are a couple of cool mods in Cydia that I thought I would mention. One is a dialer mod that is actually similar to very popular dialer mod for firmware 1.1.4 and below. Retro Phone Dialer (via modmyi) will change your dialer keypad to look like an old school pay phone dialer…it’s pretty cool! The other mod is a Cydia theme. enBuufydia (via modmyi) is a mod that will change Cydia to match the Buuf theme. I know quite a few of you use the Buuf theme so, here is just one more thing you can mod to match your theme! Both mods can be activated and deactivated via WinterBoard with no issues. Below are the screenshots of both mods. [Read more...]

WinterBoard Themes and Mod

xmastheme
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard We are getting closer to Christmas (16 more days) and to get into the Holiday spirit, we are seeing more Christmas themes in Cydia! Today, there were a few worth mentioning. These are actually not new themes, they were available last Christmas, but they have been updated and added to Cydia for this Christmas! The three Christmas themes are; XMAS, Simple Christmas and Christmas in Green (all via iSpazio). There are a few other mods available is Cydia as well; TABLET a themes via BigBoss and Blue Stars Dot a SpringBoard dot mod via iSpazio. The only issue is that in the TABLET theme the Calculator icon is spelled incorrectly in the package therefore it doesn’t change the icon for the theme. But, if you are comfortable with SSH you can easily go into Library/Themes/TABLET.theme/Icons folder and change the Calcolator.png to say Calculator.png. All the screenshots are below. App Ratings Coming to Cydia

before-ratings

CydiaWe received a screenshot in our email this morning of a new feature coming to Cydia. Based on the screenshot, I’d say it’s a rating system for applications. This will be very nice. We don’t have screenshots of the actual page once you click on the rating but if we do, we’ll post those too. You’ll also see from the comparison screenshots below that there is a nice redesign which adds the apps icon, and some small icons to each selection like the email icon for contacting the author. WinterBoard Themes – KillSignRetroBlue and Ironman

killsignretroblue3
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard There have been a couple themes in WinterBoard recently that I think are note worthy. The themes are KillSignRetroBlue and Ironman. Both of themes have quite a bit of modding in them. The KillSignRetroBlue theme includes icons (though the YouTube icon does not work…you will have to manually SSH in and capitalize the “Y” in YouTube icon…then it will work), custom battery, HUD, Closebox, badge and sliders.

The Ironman theme does a ton of modding as well…lock screen, wallpaper, battery, sms balloons, slider, weather screen, sounds, load screens, dialer….etc. Honestly, I’m not huge on theme Themes (and this one is a little on the boyish side :)) but, I got word that this was cool so I thought I would pass it along! Check out the screenshots below. [Read more...]

MusicPlayer Mod – WinterBoard

musicplayermod
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard The MusicPlayer 8 Colours mod in Cydia is a mod that changes the color scheme of your iPod. There are eight colors to choose from; Yellow, Silver, Red, Pink, Green, Gold, Blue and Black. It actually is a pretty decent mod. Most themes do not mod the iPod so this could give your current theme a little boost. The only thing I do not like about the mod is that it changes you iPod icon which will overwrite your current theme’s iPod icon. However, you can fix this by moving your theme above the MusicPlayer mod in WinterBoard. Check out the screenshots below.

Beaches – WinterBoard Theme

110
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

WinterBoard Beaches is a WinterBoard theme that switches between 24 wallpapers throughout the day (changing once an hour). I know, you are thinking…”This has already been done.” True, there is another theme very similar to this called Around The World in 24 (which I really like). However, this theme only includes beach wallpapers. Honestly, this is perfect for me. My preferred iPhone theme…when I’m not testing other themes…is clear icons with a beach wallpaper which I used to change about once a day or every few days. Well, now I do not have to change them on my own any more!

Note: Another thing I like about these type of themes is how easily they can be customized. If you are familiar with SSH, you can easily SSH into your iPhone or iPod Touch and replace the images in the theme with your own images. That way it will rotate through wallpapers that match your theme or wallpapers that you just like better. The images for this theme are located in the folder:

Dames 1.0

dames10
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Dames I was excited to see a new game, Dames – a Checkers application, in Cydia this morning. We haven’t had a ton of new games lately so, I was eager to check it out. However, I cannot seem to get the app to work. When it opens, I get a splashscreen (a very nice looking splashscreen) and then everything goes black. The application stays open, I just get a black screen. I even let it sit for a long time and it didn’t do anything…just stayed on the black screen. I took a look at the app via SSH and it doesn’t look like it is in English…so, I don’t know if that has to do with it or not. [Read more...]

Vibrus and KeyVib

keyvib10
Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

KeyVibWhen I checked Cydia this morning I noticed a new Vibrus application. Vibrus is an application that makes your keyboard vibrate as you type on your keyboard or dialer. The vibration length is even configurable! It allows you to turn on/off the Haptic Keyboard and the Haptic Dialer. It also allows you to adjust the Intensity and Duration of the vibrate. I was going to install it an noticed that it will only works with 2G iPhone’s (3G iPhone support coming soon). That made me think about KeyVib another application that is very similar to Vibrus and is available for the 3G iPhone. [Read more...]
