The update is said to change the app so that the user can use their own wallpaper and includes some bug fixes. I gave the update a shot and I’m still not having much luck. The wallpaper of the mod has been changed to a blank wallpaper but, I still cannot use it with another theme’s wallpaper (by moving the theme above the SpringBoard Clock mod in WinterBoard) or use my own wallpaper with the mod (by moving User Wallpaper above the SpringBaord Clock mod in WinterBoard). Let me know in the comments if it is working for you. You can get SpringBoard Clock via the modmyi source. Remember, there is an English version of the mod.
What the mod does is add the Date and Time to the bottom of the SpringBoard where your page dots normally are. It looks the best if used with smaller icons. If you are using the stock size icons, you can turn on the Transparent Dock mod, and that will allow the SpringBoard Clock to fit a little better. The application package also includes an html file if you would like to ssh in and do some of your own customizations to the mod…it is located in the Library/Themes/Springboard Clock – English.theme folder.

The mod comes with a wallpaper that I can’t seem to change using WinterBoard which means you would have to ssh in a different wallpaper if you would like it changed. You can get this mod via the modmyi source.

I have had 9-Toolbox on my iPhone for quite some time now and I have to admit that, at first, I was slightly overwhelmed by the application. 9-Toolbox really is nine applications rolled into one. Because of the extensiveness of the app…I will just give you a brief description about each of the nine tools that are available in the app which include; Currency, Date Calc, Days Until, Holidays, Inclinometer, Loan, My Girl’s Day, Tip Calc and Units.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox1.png class="thickbox"">

Currency is a tool that allows you to convert currency rates. You can convert the rates between; USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, MXN, CNY, AUD, CHF and KRW. All you do is select which currency you would like to convert from and which currency you would like to convert to…then just enter the amount and it will automatically do the conversion. You do have the option to delete any of the currencies types that you would never use. You can also move the currencies types around putting the ones you use more often at the top of the list and the ones you use less often at the bottom of the list.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox2.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox2-1.png class="thickbox"">

The Date Calc tool allows you to calculate a few things. The first is that you can calculate the number of days between two dates. For example…my husband’s Birthday is August 19th so, I can calculate how many are left until his Birthday (106…if you are curious! ). However, you do not have to start with the current day, you can enter any two dates and it will calculate that number of days between them. Second, you can enter a date and have it add a certain number of days to that date, in order to figure out another date. For example…you could enter the date March 10th, 2009 and then have it add 486 days to that date. It would calculate that March 10th, 2009 plus 486 days gives you July 8th 2010. Third, you can figure out what day of the week a certain date will fall on. For example…if I wanted to know what day of the week Doug’s Birthday will be on, I can just enter August 19th, 2009 and it would tell me that August 19th, 2009 is a Wednesday. Forth, you can get a Lunar(Chinese)/Solar Converter…I have no idea what that is or how this part of the app works but, it looks cool!

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox3.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox4.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox5.png class="thickbox"">

Days Until is a simple tool that allows you to keep track of how many days there are until a certain event. The nice things about this tool is that you can enter more than one event and then scroll through them Cover Flow style. It will display a photo for the “event,” the number of days until the event, what the event is (ex; Concert, Doug’s Birthday…), and the exact date of the event. You are able to add, remove and rearrange the events.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox7.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox8.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox9.png class="thickbox"">

Holidays is a tool that lists the dates of the all Holidays for the US, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan, Jewish Holidays and Saudi Arabia. The list displays the Holiday, the number of days until the Holiday and the exact date of the Holiday. You can change the year to see what days the Holidays were in past years or what date they will be in up-coming years. You can also remove and rearrange the Countries to fit your preference.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox10.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox11.png class="thickbox"">

Inclinometer has two options; Surface and Bubble. The Surface option will give you information based on your iPhone laying on a flat surface and the Bubble option is basically like a level. Within each of those options, you have the ability to get the units in Degrees, Slope or Pitch. You also have the ability to calibrate your iPhone or iPod Touch which you can lock/unlock.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox12.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox13.png class="thickbox"">

Loan is a tool that will calculate the monthly payment, monthly average interest, total interest and total amount of a loan. You enter the amount of the loan, the term of the loan, the interest rate on the loan and the start date of the loan and it does the rest. You can view the full authorization schedule for the loan and even email it if you would like.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox14.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox15.png class="thickbox"">

My Girl’s Day is a tool that allows you to keep track of your (or your wife’s) menstrual periods. Once you enter in your last period’s info (start date, end date and cycle length), you are given an estimate of when your next period will be as well as a color coded calendar displaying which days you were (or are going to) actually have your period, the days in which you have an increased probability of becoming pregnant and the day of ovulation. The more periods your enter info for, the more accurate the information is. Also, you can edit the estimated info for your next period if it is not accurate once you actually have it. Good for general info and for those trying to get pregnant!

Tip Calc is exactly that…a tip calculator. You enter the amount of the bill, the tax rate, and the tip percentage. It will then tell you the tip amount and the total bill. You also have the option to split the bill between a certain number of people in which it will then tell you the total amount each person has to pay. In the Settings for this tool you have the ability to turn on/off the Tax and the Split options.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox18.png class="thickbox""> <a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox19.png class="thickbox"">

Units is a handy tool that allows you to convert between different units of measurement for; Area, Length, Pressure, Temperature, Volume and Weight.

<a href="http://www.appleiphoneschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/9toolbox20.png class="thickbox"">

Obviously there is a ton going on in this application. I personally like that it has a lot of useful tools all in one place, instead of having nine seperate applications on my SpringBoard. The user interface really is pretty nice once you get used to the crammed feel. Overall, I would say that it is worth the normal $4.99 but, if you hurry, it is currently on sale for free (which is an extremely good deal!).

What is cool, is that it replaces the little lock icon that is normally on your status bar when your iPhone or iPod Touch is locked with the time! So, you don’t actually completely lose the time…it just gets moved to your status bar!

As soon as you install the app…it activated the mod (it is not activated/deactivated via WinterBoard). To get your date and time back, just uninstall the app. I had no issues installing or uninstalling this application.
Whenever I get bored, I usually take a trip to the App Store and do some window shopping, preferably strolling down the free aisles of the store. One app that often showed up in the Top 25 was a utility that acted as a clock display and alarm clock. I never downloaded the app since I didn’t really find a need for the program. However, LCD Clock came up as an assignment, so I finally got to see what all the fuss was about with these clock/alarm utilities.

Overview
With LCD clock, you basically get a digital clock, date, and calendar display. The screen can be turned so that only the clock is displayed. Settings (most of which are found in the iPhone settings) for LCD clock go beyond the expected multiple colored displays. For the clock display, you can choose 24-hour or 12-hour (AM/PM). The date can be displayed with the year, month, or date first. For the calendar display, you can view up to 7 months of dates and choose to have holidays highlighted along with Sundays.

The Good
LCD clock has a clean and simple display. The user interface is designed well enough that I was able to figure out all of its features in minutes just by playing around with the app. Swiping the calendar allows you to view other months and tapping the date brings you back to the current month. Tapping various areas of the display allows you to set the alarm, toggle 24-hour mode, and turn on the backlight. Double tapping the screen allows you to change the color of the display, and rotating the screen shows the clock only. One feature that I had to read about is that shaking the phone turns on the Indigo light. Nice touch.

The Not So Good
As mentioned by the developers and some reviewers in the App Store, this program has its limitations. It is designed to provide a nice display when used with a dock and in a charging state. Since the app does not run in the background, you need to be running LCD clock in order to hear the alarm. I also had to make sure that my sound volume (not ringer) was turned up in order to hear the alarm sounds. Even if I did have a dock and used this app as a display, I’d be concerned about having any kind of stationary screen on my iPhone for such an extended period of time (the app has a default setting to override the auto lock).

The Rest
As an iPhone user who does not use a dock, LCD clock does not appeal to me much. If I need to see the time, I’ll look at the top of my iPhone or the lock screen. If I want to know the date or look at a calendar, I will probably want to see my appointments as well so I will use my current PIM app of choice (Saisuke). And if I want to set an alarm, I’ll first want to make sure that I’ll hear it, and for that I’ll use an app that’s built in (Clock) and not one that needs to be running at all times. If that doesn’t sound like you, or if you do use a dock, $0.99 is a small price to pay for a pretty clock display.

I’m not exactly sure why you would need this mod because the time is already on your statusbar and the date is on the Calendar icon. But, if you are looking to see the date and time with one glance…this might just be the mod for you. I did find that if you are using an app that has statusbar notifications, it can overlap the notification depending on how many you have. You can get this mod via the iSpazio source.

When Date Hide is installed, it will remove the date from the Calendar icon on your iPhone’s SpringBoard. It will remove both the day (Friday, Saturday…) and the number (13, 14…) from the Calendar icon. This is great for themes in which the date does not fit correctly on the Calendar icon. I was able install and uninstall this application with no problem. You can get Date Hide via the Planet-iPhones source.

Note: When you install Date Hide…it will not add an icon to your SpringBoard it will just automatically take off the date on the Calendar icon.

WordClock is an application that displays the date and time in word format. When you open the application, you will see that it lists Sunday-Saturday, the first through the thirty-first, one through fifty-nine, am, pm, zero through fifty-two…in words. It will have the today’s date in read…ex; Sunday, the fifteenth of June. It will then have the exact time in red as well…ex; five thirty-six pm and twenty-three. It will change the seconds in real time. You can tap the screen to get into the Settings menu. From here you can change the Background, Foreground and Highlight color. The only issue with this is that you cannot see the color you are changing it to. It would be easier if there was a slider bar the displayed how you were affecting the color when you changed the Red, Green and Blue. The only other issue I have with this application is on the display screen, the words go off the page…they go off the page at around fifty-two seconds and if you try to scroll down, it crashes. Other than that, it is a pretty cool application. WordClock is available through the iSpazio source. <!--
