Email Multiple Images – 3.0 Firmware

Email Multiple Images One cool new feature of the 3.0 firmware is the ability to send more than one photo or screenshot (or any image that is on your iPhone or iPod Touch) at a time via email. The guide will show you how to quickly use Apple’s built in feature that allows you to email up to five image and how to email more then five images. This is a feature I LOVE and use all the time so, I thought I would make sure everyone knows how to use it! Below are step-by-step instructions.

Backgrounder Updated – Firmware 3.0 Compatible

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

#Backgrounder Backgrounder, a mod that allows applications to run in the background, has been updated to version svn.r247. This version of Backgrounder is for firmware 3.0 and above. If you are on 2.2.1 or below make sure you DO NOT upgrade. The update also only enables the basic backgrounder feature…there are no extra features at this time. The developer says it will take some time to get the features working on the 3.0 firmware.

What Exactly Does Spotlight Search?

Spotlight Search I know there are mixed feelings about the new search feature of the 3.0 firmware, Spotlight. Some people love it, some people hate it! I have even had people ask me how to get rid of it (you can’t – at least not yet). Either way, many people are a little confused on what exactly Spotlight searches. Below is a list of exactly what is searched by Spotlight. [Read more…]

Firmware 3.0 Jailbreak and Unlock Specifics *Updated

3.0 Firmware Below is the basic information about how jailbreaking and unlocking will work on the 3.0 firmware for the 1st gen iPhone, the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS.

Important Note: Upgrading to firmware 3.0 will break your current jailbreak and unlock (see below for more specific information). Also, many of the current jailbroke applications do not work on firmware 3.0. [Read more…]

iPhone Firmware 3.0 Release Times

ClockA few websites are reporting this morning that Hong Kong sent a network-wide SMS notifying iPhone owners that OS 3.0 will be available on June 18th, 01:00 local time. That puts it at 10:00am Pacific, 12:00pm Central, 1:00pm Eastern. For other time zones, see this link.

11 Page SpringBoard on Firmware 3.0

11 Page SpringBoard One feature of the 3.0 firmware that is pretty cool is that you can now have 11 pages of applications on your SpringBoard instead of the previous 9 pages (screenshot below). Which means you can now have 180 applications at your fingertips where previously you could only have 150. I know some of you probably use Categories so you do not use all 9 pages anyway but, for those people who are not jailbroke…it might be a nice feature of the new firmware. Though, I have found that the more apps I install the slower my iPhone gets but, I might be able to blame that on the jailbroke apps.

Thanks to aly for pointing this out!

iPhone 3G S – Video Editing

Camera I know that there are a few cool features on the iPhone 3G S however, one that I am really interested in is the Video Recording and Video Editing. I have two children, my oldest is two and half and my youngest is 3 months old and even though we have quite a few cameras laying around our house (due to Doug’s obsession with photography), I still end up using my iPhone’s camera the most. So, I’m guessing I will end up using the video recording feature quite often as well.

The iPhone 3G S records in 30-fps VGA (640×480) which allows Apple to say that it is, “perfect for posting on the web” which is true. Video can be captured in both landscape and portrait mode. When you start recording you will hear the same “shutter” sound you get when you take a photo (unless your iPhone is on silent mode). While you are recording, the record button will blink to indicate that you are recording. You will also get a nice little thumbnail of the previous video (or photo) you took. It seems like you will be able to use the “tap to focus” method with the video recording as well.

Firmware 3.0 – No Jailbreak Yet, Hold Off On Upgrading

##ICON_NAME## BigBoss posted an article today stating that there is currently no jailbreak for firmware 3.0 (the real thing, not the betas). Yes, you can use the 3.0 b5 jailbreak tools but, it’s not advised. Below is what BigBoss has to say on the matter.

As for the rest of us who are not on firmware 3.0 yet, they will probably have it jailbroke before we even get it on June 17th. However, even if they do have it jailbroke by the release date, there is rumor that many of the jailbreak apps will not work on firmware 3.0. Doug says apps like WinterBoard, WeatherIcon, LiveClock, Cycorder do not work on firmware 3.0 b5. So, on June 17th, you might want to hold off on upgrading until we can figure out how everything works. We will keep you up-to-date. [Read more…]

Demo Videos of New Features of iPhone 3G S and 3.0 Firmware

Demo Videos If you do not have time to watch the entire Guided Tour for the iPhone 3G S, you can watch short demo videos of just the features you are interested in (that is totally what I did). Below is a list of all the features that have short demo videos and the link to the demo video on Apple’s website. These include features of both the iPhone 3G S itself and the 3.0 firmware. Firmware 3.0 – New Features

Firmware 3.0 I know that the 3.0 firmware is not new news, we heard all about it in March, but there were a few new features that were mentioned today.

Note: Not to be confused with the features that are exclusive to the iPhone 3G S itself and not the 3.0 firmware, you can check out the list of features for the iPhone 3G S HERE.

The 3.0 firmware will be released June 17th and will be free for all iPhone users. The upgrade will cost $9.95 for iPod Touch users. [Read more…]

Firmware 3.0 Beta 3 Released To Developers

AppleApple has recently released firmware 3.0 Beta 3, build 7A280f, to developers. Along with the firmware there are also updates to the SDK. Changes include performance improvements, user interface updates and alterations to Spotlight search. How does this affect you? Well one big issues with Beta 3 is it will not run apps that aren’t made for 3.0. This means none of your apps would work but the ones you’ve developed for 3.0 yourself. (as of writing this article, beta 3 is not jailbroken either.)

UPDATE: The note below is for the emulator in the SDK, not for the firmware on the iPhone. (Thanks to Tetanus in the comments for this info)

“Applications targeting devices prior to iPhone OS 3.0 beta cannot be tested in this seed, this bug is intended to be fixed in a future seed.”

Text Message from AT&T

AT&T Today I received a nice text message from AT&T. It told me that if I upgrade to the newest software, I will receive “fewer dropped calls, improved battery life and get the latest enhancements to Maps, Mail and Safari.” It then went on to say exactly what I needed to do in order to upgrade. There are a few things I find strange about this text message…one, firmware 2.2.1 has been out since the end of January two, Doug’s grandma also received the same text message a few days ago (she is on firmware 2.2…as am I) however, neither Doug nor his grandfather received the text message (they are on 3.0 beta 2 and 2.2.1). This leads me to believe they are only sending it to people who are not on 2.2.1 or above. I’m curious to know if you also received the text message from AT&T and what firmware you are on. Screenshot of the full text message below. [Read more…]
