Waveboard – Google Wave iPhone App Now Available in App Store

We first told you about Waveboard, a very simple front end for Google Wave, a few weeks ago while it was still in review. It has now hit the App Store and is available for $0.99.

The application in itself does not have push notifications but Waveboard has been integrated into Prowl and you can get push notifications that way. For more info on setting up push notifications check out http://www.getwaveboard.com

A very simple front end for Google Wave. This client shows the standard web presence for mobile devices provided by Google Wave.

Website links will be shown in an integrated separate web browser view. Pages can be handed over to Safari from within the app. Landscape view is supported.

By shaking the device you get access to ‘Logout’ and ‘Reload’ actions.

Use this tool to get Google Wave on your springboard screen. No distracting browser controls where they are not needed.

Waveboard – Google Wave iPhone App

There has been some talk lately of a Google Wave iPhone application (not the current web app) titled Waveboard. Waveboard is being developed by Dirk Holtwick and is, “a client software for Google Wave for both Mac OS X 10.5+ and iPhone OS 3.0+.”

Currently, the app has been submitted to the App Store (a few times) and is waiting approval. Below is a video demo of Waveboard for the iPhone. You can follow the progress of the app on the developer’s blog – www.getwaveboard.com

Google Wave Web App Now Working

I recently recieved my invite to Google Wave. The recent video we posted showed a preview of the web app but claimed it wasn’t available yet however I was able to get it to work. I was using a laptop on a data card and my iPhone on EDGE and it only took a couple seconds for it to update both ways. Here are a couple screenshots from the iPhone.

Google has done a simple but very effective update to it’s mobile search for the iPhone. In Safari, going to google.com takes you to an iPhone optimized website. New to the page is the word “Options” on the top right of the page. Now you have access to searching forums & reviews; search the past 24 hours, past week or year or a specific date range; and images from the page or more text.

Google recently started to release Google Wave. During their demo video a few months ago, they tried to show the iPhone web app but it wouldn’t work. Engadget recently made a video showing a little bit of the app. Here’s the video.

Google Adds Gmail Support to Google Sync

Today, Google announced that they are adding Gmail support to Google Sync. This will allow users to get push notification for their Gmail emails on both the iPhone and iPod touch.

Using Google Sync, you can now get your Gmail messages pushed directly to your phone. Having an over-the-air, always-on connection means that your inbox is up to date, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. Sync works with your phone’s native email application so there’s no additional software needed. Only interested in syncing your Gmail, but not your Calendar? Google Sync allows you to sync just your Contacts, Calendar, or Gmail, or any combination of the three.

If you already have Google Sync set-up on your iPhone for syncing Contacts and/or Calendar… you should be able to just toggle the Mail option On and the push notification will be automatically enabled. If you do not have Google Sync set-up yet, check out Google’s guide HERE.

Google Sync does use an Exchange account so, if you already have one Exchange account set-up on your device… you are out on Google Sync.

Dev-Team Gets Google Voice (and gives out the number!)

It seems the Dev-Team has some guts! They just posted on Twitter that they have a new Google Voice number… the post includes the number itself. So, if you would like to reach the Dev-Team, feel free to call (347) Dev-Team which equals (347) 338-8326. I’m not sure who you will get (maybe it is forwarding to all the Dev-Team members) or if they will even answer but, they said to feel free to leave a message. I have a feeling they might start to get inundated with calls… we will see if they regret the decision!

FontSwap Font: DroidSans (Google Android Font)

Now that FontSwap is working for firmware 3.0 I tried it out for the first time. I’ve never really changed the font of my iPhone in the past but I thought I would today. The first thing I noticed was there were only a few options that came with the app so I started looking in Cydia for some more. There were a few more but a few sources weren’t working and I just wasn’t satisfied with the choices. Then a local tweep (twitter acquaintance) posted a screenshot of his iPhone with the Google Android font. I asked him where he got it and he pointed me to the MacThemes forum. Someone who was porting over fonts had recent done the Android font. You can download it here: http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/tuxqui

Now you just need to SSH it to this folder: /private/var/mobile/Library/FontSwap/Packages/

You’ll want to put the DroidSans folder in the above folder and rename it DroidSans.font

Now just go into FontSwap app and select that font. You probably won’t see a preview of the font but it will still work. Here’s what it looks like:

Google Maps in Safari

So I got this Tweet last night about a web app version of Google Maps for the Palm Pre that works on the iPhone. Actually it works in my computer’s browser. What the computer browser doesn’t do is track my location. That’s right, I got this pop up when accessing the page in my 2nd Gen iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 3.0 Beta 5 while in Safari:

I tested it on Brooke’s iPhone, which is a 2nd Gen iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.2.1, and I got this:

It has all the other features like list of map directions, map routing, traffic, satellite & map views, search, and more. You can pinch, zoom, double tap and use in landscape mode too. You can try it out by going http://gjm.google.com/mwm.

If you’re like me, you use the iPhone’s Mail app all the time. But if you use Gmail you should take a look at gmail.com using Safari. There’s been a lot of updates recently and Google is using HTML5 which makes the app really sweet. The video below shows you some of the features and how they look while in use.
