iCountry is a simple application that allows you to quickly view the basic info for all European Countries.

Once you navigate your way through the alphabetically list of the European countries and find the one you are looking for, you are able to view; the Capital, Official Language, Anthem, Area, Currency, Calling Code, a map of the country, the national flag of the country and the coat of arms for the country. You are also provided with a direct link to that country’s info on Wikipedia so you are able to find out more about the specific country.

There is one improvement I would love to see in this app… it would be nice if the map of the country opened in Google Maps within the actual application itself instead of launching the stock Maps app. Other than that… the app provides basic info in an easy to navigate manner.

Saurik recently released an application in Cydia called PrivaCy. PrivaCy is an application that allows you to “selectively opt-out of sending anonymous usage statistics” to certain providers such as; Flurry, Medialets, Mobclix and Pinch Media. According to a recent post by the Dev-Team, there is some concern over App Store applications that track the user’s information including; usage and geo location. You can read Saurik’s full description of the application below.

PrivaCy can be installed by going into the Cydia section of the Cydia app (or, search for PrivaCy in Cydia). Once installed, you can then go into the stock Settings application > PrivaCy and choose to turn on/off the ability to send anonymous usage statistics for Flurry, Medialets, Mobclix and Pinch Media.

Description:

It has recently come to the attention of angry Cydia users that they are being watched by many of the applications they have installed from the App Store.

Sites like I-phone-home have been discussing this in detail, leading to a post on the Dev-Team Blog about one provider in particular: Pinch Media.

Pinch Media, however, is not the only tracking provider: on the iPhone alone there are three other companies: Flurry, Medialets, and Mobclix.

Developers integrate these systems for much the same reason people use Google Analytics: to better understand how their customers use their products.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions Apple places on their App Store, these providers are unable to directly interface with the users they affect.

Instead, they rely on developers of every single application to document what information is being logged, and allow users to “opt-out” if they desire.

Thanks to applications like redsn0w and Cydia, however, these restrictions are no longer important: a system-wide global “opt-out” setting is now possible.

Pinch Media realized this fact, and took the lead in contacting me regarding getting this feature out there to all the users of jailbroken devices: they care.

With BigBoss, we then contacted all of the other providers, getting not only their blessing, but also their technical expertise in disabling their systems.

The result is PrivaCy: a new Settings panel that allows you to selectively opt-out of sending anonymous usage statistics to each of these providers.

This extension was a team effort, and was able to be executed as quickly as it was thanks to the help and interest of the companies involved.

Ok guys, here is the deal…I’m going to do my best to explain this application however, I have to admit that about half of it means absolutely nothing to me! So, I will keep it brief and give you some screenshots (hopefully I don’t leave any info that I shouldn’t in the screenshots!!).

Here we go, SysInfoPlus is basically an application that gives you probably every piece of information available to give about your iPhone or iPod Touch. When you open the app you will see five options on the lower menu bar; System, Process, Memory, Disk and Network.

In the System option, you will find a ton of system information. Everything from Load Average to Battery Info to Network Interface Info to Storage Specs to Device Info to Kernel Info to Hardware Info. I mean seriously…like everything you could ever want to know!

The Process option will give you a list of all your iPhone processes (main apps, mobile user processes and other processes). If you select one, you will get even more information about the process and the ability to stop the process.

The Memory option will give you some nice memory stats. This includes how many MB of Free, Active, Inactive and Wired memory you have.

The Disk option will give you info about both the System Area and the User Area…including how many MB you are using and that are available for both areas (interesting info!).

The Network option give you Network Interface stats and Various Network reports.

If you are totally into knowing EVERYTHING about your iPhone then this is most defiantly an app for you. I personally will only use a few aspects of this app (Process, Memory and Disk info) but, even then…it does a nice job of laying out the info in a user friendly interface.

Price: Free 6 Day Demo – $7.49

MobileLog is a very nice application that allows you to manage your calls and text messages. When you open MobileLog, you will get a pop-up asking if you would like to Buy the app (the app is $7.49), Activate the app (which is done after purchasing the app) or Continue Demo (it is a 6 day demo). Once you have chosen your option, you will be brought into the application.

There are a ton of features in this app so, lets quickly walk through them. Across the top menu bar (left to right), you will find Edit, All Calls icon, Missed Calls icon, Received Calls icon, Dialed Calls icon and a Trash icon. Edit allows you to delete specific calls from the list. Note: Any calls that are deleted in the MobileLog application will also be deleted from your stock Phone application on your iPhone. All Calls allows you to view all Missed, Incoming and Dialed calls in once list starting with the most recent. Missed Calls will display all your missed call starting with the most recent and the Dialed Call option will display all your dialed calls starting with the most recent. The Trash option allows you to delete all the calls with one tap. At the bottom of each list you are also given the total number of calls and the total duration of all the calls.

You will notice that when you are viewing a list of calls, it displays the Contact in which the call represents (or the phone number, if it is not one of your contacts) as well as the date and time in which the call was made or received. If you acutally spoke to the person, it will also display the duration of the call in parentheses after the date and time. If you tap on the arrow next to a specific call…you can view more information about the call including; the four most recent calls you have made/received from that number, the option to call the number and the option to send a text message to the number. If you select the Log option in the upper right corner, it will display a list of all the missing, incoming and dialed calls made to or received from that specific number. It will then change the Calls info at the bottom of the list to reflect the number total number of calls from that number and the total duration of all the calls.

On the lower menu bar, you are also given a Messages option. Here you will find basically the same layout and information only for your received and sent text messages instead of calls. If you tap on the arrow next to a specific text message, you are able to see the entire message and well as delete the text. Note: This will delete the text message from both the MobileLog application and your stock SMS application on your iPhone. The only feature this option is missing is the ability to send a text message back to the contact.

The last option on the lower menu bar are the Settings. Here you are able to change some General settings, Notification settings and Data setting. All of the setting option are self explanatory or well explained…which is nice! You are also able to purchase the app from the Setting menu.

Overall, a solid application with a nice user interface and quite a few features. I had no crashing problems or glitches while testing this application.

There has been another release for MCallShow. I tend to keep an eye on the updates for this application because in the past it has never worked quite right for me so, I like to check out the updates to see if things have improved. MCallShow is an application which gives you more detailed location based information about incoming and outgoing calls. It seems that the user interface has not drastically changed however, the database for the application has changed. It used to be when you opened the app, it would automatically find your local Country. Now it seems that you need to actually install the database for your Country. The current Country databases include, Australia, China, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Spain and Thailand. There website says that there is also a database for the USA/Canada but, I did not see that is Cydia.

So, once you install MCallShow, you will also need to install the databases that you would need. Also, in the previous version when you would try to purchase the application is would say $0.00 well now it seems that the full version of the application is $4.99 USD. I personally do not see a huge need for this application but, maybe it is extremely useful for people in other Countries or people who do a lot of business with other Countries…you guys will have to let me know. Check out the screenshots below.

Doug noticed awhile ago (which I’m sure most of you have as well) that when you update an application in the App Store, it completely deletes the application’s icon off your iPhone and then re-adds it in the first available spot on your iPhone’s SpringBoard (instead of leaving the application where you had it on your SpringBoard). This can be slightly annoying if you have all your apps organized exactly how you would like them. Recently, we have also heard that some people are losing their previously saved games, scores and log-in information when they update an application. I have not found this to be true. All the apps that I have updated have kept my previous information. Let us know in the comments if you have experienced data being erased when updating an application.
