Time for a new poll. The last poll was – Do you use the passcode lock on your iPhone and/or iPod touch? Below are the results.

    * Yes (46.0%, 485 Votes)
* No (54.0%, 559 Votes)
Total Voters: 1,044

I think it is interesting that this is almost a 50/50 vote. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to passcode lock my iPhone or not… at the moment it does not have a passcode lock on it. You can still vote on this Poll in our Poll Archive page. You can also vote/view all the past polls on the Poll Archive page as well.

The next poll I decided to do after some frustration about the fact that lately quite a few jailbroke applications automatically install the Rock Your iPhone RockApp when they are installed. I personally use Cydia and do not want to install RockApp. Then I got to thinking… maybe some people do use RockApp. Thus the poll.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Ripdev has recently announced that is no longer going to be supporting Installer. Below is what they have to say:

The featured page you see when you launch Installer is actually automatically generated based on the popularity of the packages (based on the number of installations across the board), so it’s nothing like the “old” featured page that listed a set of pre-defined products. It will eventually have some “sponsored” products, but they will be easily distinguishable visually and we’ll try to keep the amount of these to the minimum – no more than 3.

Community Sources are updated as well to reflect the change in the modmyi.com domain name and to remove some outdated sources that shown promise but actually never delivered anything.”

– Many visual enhancements and fixes in regards to source and packages display.
– Fixed an issue with failing installs with dependencies under some circumstances.
– Fixed a bug causing package information to be displayed incorrectly (size 0 bytes) on the first access, or when the custom information HTML page (such as packages from Big Boss’ repository) was not displayed.
– When updating a package, and one of its dependencies also has an update available, the dependency will be updated as well.
– The package icons will only be downloaded when on the Wi-Fi to help you save on bandwidth.
– The repositories are being refreshed upon Installer.app launch so you always stay on the bleeding edge with the updates. This is experimental behavior and we’re not yet sure it will make it to the final release.
– Fixed a script command Confirm that was returning invalid button index for the “OK” button.
– Lots and lots of both cosmetic and internal application core fixes that improve the overall performance, presentation and stability of the application.

I’m still having a lot problems with the app. When refreshing sources, sometimes it hangs for a long time. I also have had it crash randomly (a lot). Of course this is still in Beta so it’s not a surprise. Let us know you’re experience so far with Installer 4.

It is a public beta version of the application. I personally am a huge fan of Kate and really miss the features that I use it for. However, when I try to install the app, I get an error. The error says, “Failed script command on line 2: ChangeMode.” Then my iPhone crashed back to the SpringBoard. I was totally bummed…I was looking forward to checking it out. Let me know in the comments if you are getting the same error.

Update:: Below is a list of features that Kate 2.0b4 has. I do think that it is cool that if you previously registered the app, it will carry over to this version of Kate.

All Components:
    • First public beta for firmware 2.0. Can be installed from the repository http://i.ripdev.com/ using Installer 4.
    • All included components reworked to work under 2.0.x with the same functionality. We will expand on the featureset soon.
    • Existing subscriptions will work; you can also request a trial or check your subscription by visiting Settings > RiP Dev > RiP Dev Products preference pane.

EQ:
    • This component will not be supported under firmware 2.0 due to significant changes in the audio subsystem.

Uninstall:
    • This component is not yet supported (until Installer 4 is final).

Well, it seems that the DevTeam updated their blog with some new info and it seems that Installer 4.0 will make the cut!! YAY! However, it does mean that we will have to wait another day for the release of Pwnage 2.0.2.

“We’ve just had word that our friends at RiPDev almost have Installer 4 (Beta) ready for public beta release, with that awesome news we’ve decided to include it in the PwnageTool 2.0.2 release, we are waiting for the software from them and we need to quickly test and add a small couple of changes that go alongside Installer.

Usually we don’t give release dates, this is so we don’t feel pressured into releasing something if it isn’t ready, or we can hold off if something comes up in the last minute (last time this was the addition of the 3G jailbreak), today we thought we were releasing, and you guys seemed restless (we read the comments) so we said “sometime today”.

We think the Installer 4 beta is big news, and I’m sure lots of you guys want it and because of this the release should now take place sometime tomorrow (Friday), we want to do all this in one hit, we don’t want to make two releases in two days (we all have day jobs too!), and besides the work has already begun to prepare PwnageTool for Installer 4, people will always say “you should have done this” and “you should have done that”, but we think that this is the best way to lighten the load on our servers and more importantly team-members while still giving you guys all the features you want.

We don’t want to keep you guys refreshing and commenting to ask where the latest update is, so we thought we’d just tell you now.

This release will of course include the new release of cydia that has bugfixes and new features.

Please don’t wait up for us, PwnageTool 2.0.2 with shiny new stuff is coming very soon.”

Thank you very much for your support guys. We’re alive, we’re ironing out some stuff (still), and we’re ready to start kicking some serious butt in a little while.
Meanwhile, if you host a moderately big repository for Installer 3.x, this is a call for you. Please email me the URL to your repo and a brief description about it, and we’ll start sending out the new repo code along with the specs and the Installer beta on Sunday.

Please note, that picking out the repos is going to be at my own discretion, so please don’t be disappointed if we don’t pick you right away. Please also understand that I will not be able to reply to everyone personally.

Thanks!
