What a “Tethered” Jailbreak Means for iOS 4.2.1

As I mentioned yesterday, the current redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is currently still a tethered jailbreak for some devices. The Dev-Team has updated their recent post on jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 with a definition of what a tethered jailbreak means. A great idea! Since most people are a little confused about what exactly a tethered jailbreak is. Below is the definition via the Dev-Team.

No Badges – Remove Home Screen Badges

No Badges is a simple hack that removes the badges from the icons on your device’s homescreen. The hack is super simple… once you install it via Cydia and respring your springboard… you will no longer have badges. There are no setting for the app and it will not put an icon on your springboard. It just does the mod automatically when the app is installed. To get your badges back, just go into Cydia and remove the app. No Badges worked perfectly when I tested both installing and removing it. A nice little hack if it is what you are looking for. Personally, I would love to see the app have a few options such as the ability to turn off badges for specific applications (like the Mail app!) and leave badges on other apps. You can get No Badges via the BigBoss source.

I found this really nice fall wallpaper online with a nice variety of colored leaves. Looks great on both the iPhone and iPad. I had to rotate it for the iPhone. I’ve included both versions for download below. Just tap the one you want below to open the full resolution. Then hold your finger on the image until a pop up comes up allowing you to save the image. You can then set your wallpaper from either the Settings app or from the Photos app.

Quickly Clear Cache, History and Tabs in Safari

Available In: Cydia Price: Free

SBSettings Reset Safari for SBSettings is an SBSetting toggle that allows you to quickly clear Safari’s cache, history and remove all tabs. Once the app is installed, you will need to go into SBSettings and then the More option and turn the toggle on. Once it has been set as one of your toggles, it’s pretty simple to use… just tap the ResetSafari toggle and it clears everything. It does not actually toggle on or off… you just tap it and it instantly deletes everything. If you use the toggle while Safari is open, it will close the app in-order to reset it.

When I tested the app… it worked just as I expected. All my Safari history and tabs had been removed and my cache cleared. I didn’t catch any glitches with the app… let me know in the comments if you did. You can get Reset Safari for SBSettings via the BigBoss source.

SBSettings Today, while we were in the Apple store, I happened to look over at Doug’s iPhone while he was using SBSettings and to my astonishment saw a beautiful SBSettings theme. Tenuis Matte is a clean SBSettings theme that just happens to go nicely with my favorite WinterBoard theme… Smoog. I think I may actual prefer it to the Smoog SBSettings theme. Anyway, what I then realized is that Tenuis Matte is actually a theme that comes with SBSettings (who knew!)… here I am installing themes when the best one comes with the app! So, if you are looking for a nice SBSettings theme, you may want to check out Tenuis Matte… if you haven’t already! Screenshots below.

VerizonVerizon recently announced they will soon begin selling the iPad starting October 28th. First off, do not be confused, the model they will be selling will be wifi only and will come with their mobile hotspot they call MiFi. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a wireless, battery powered wifi router, about the size of a credit card, that gets it’s internet from the cell phone towers.

So, to be clear, the iPads that Verizon will be selling will be wifi only and will not have the ability to receive data from Verizon on their own without using the MiFi device. The battery life of the MiFi is somewhere between 3 & 4 hours and the iPad is somewhere near 10 hours. Read more
