Apple’s announcement today on firmware 4.0 (which is due to be released summer 2010… dev preview released today) contains over 100 new user features however, they spent the majority of the time focusing on the 7 major new features. This is just a quick overview of what those seven new features are. We will talk about each one separately and more in-depth… as soon as we have them written. :) [Read more...]
Firmware 4.0 – 7 Main New Features – Overview
Kids and iPads [videos]
This first video recently became popular mainly because the little girl asks where the app is that takes pictures when she first starts using the new iPad (which the iPad lacks). She has most likely used an iPhone or iPod touch before so she knows what she’s doing. I went looking and found a few more videos of kids testing out the new iPad. Most seem to pick it up pretty quick and they all seem to love the drawing apps. We’ll have to post a video of our kids testing out the new iPad once we pick one up.

iCade – iPad Arcade Cabinet

Thanks to @BarryHayes for sending this in. This is the ultimate iPad accessory! It turns your iPad into a mini arcade. It’s fully functional and even includes speakers, a sub woofer and power adapter. The apps are free in the app store and only work with this accessory. Some of the games listed are Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Qbert, & Super Steve Brothers. The cost is $149.99 and is availabe from thinkgeek.com.
Mounting an iPad into Toyota Dash
This is awesome! I would so do this if I had money laying around, but I don’t. This video is of a car stereo shop named “Sound Man Car Audio” based out of Santa Clarita, CA. They are documenting the install of an iPad into the dash of a Toyota. This video is only the first day of the install, so more will come. They also have some documentation on how to integrate an iPod touch or iPhone into your car audio system.
On The day of the iPad release, we were able to start our planned iPad project. We chose to use the iPad as the only source for the vehicles entertainment system. The dock connector will plug into a cable that runs to a Onkyo ND-S1 which will send the digital signal from the iPad directly into an Audison Bit One. The Bit One will then act as the D/A converter, and will also process the audio signal. The Bit One also has a great controller for adjusting the volume and audio settings. The amplifier we chose is the McIntosh MCC406M. Stay tuned for the rest of the build. You’ll be able to find all the pictures and videos on this page as they become available.
Will It Blend? – iPad Style
Oh boy, he is at it again… the Will It Blend guy has tried his hand at blending the iPad. I distinctly remember watching aghast as he blended an iPhone two years ago. For those of you sick of all the iPad talk… you might enjoy watching this video. Personally, it made me cringe a little. Especially at the beginning!
iPad Jailbroken!
We Were On The News!
Today we decided to visit the Apple store in our area to check out the new iPad. We went in about an hour after they opened and there was still a pretty big line. This is a picture of the line a friend of mine took just a little while before we got there.
Once we got there I asked the staff if I had to stand in line to buy something other than the iPad. She said no and that I could go right in and if I wanted I could look at an iPad. I went in and bought my Airport Extreme and checked out the iPad after I was done. It is very amazing and I can’t wait to get one. I did notice that it was a little heavier than I thought and my arm did get tired after standing and holding it for a while. Still, amazing. Anyway, while I was standing there showing it to my wife I saw the news videographer setting up for a shot inside the store. I told my wife and we tried to act normal. Later, I forgot all about it and someone ended up telling me on Facebook that they saw me on the 6:00 news. I caught a later airing and here’s the video and a screenshot from the few seconds we were famous… [Read more...]
The iPad is Here!
Ok, so I’m jealous, but that’ s ok. Later I will not stand in line for my iPad 3G. We will be going out to our Apple store today to check out the new device. Our mall opened at 7am and the Apple store is opening at 9am. Here are some videos of lines and stores opening across the US.

More iPad App Previews
I’ve found even more great apps custom designed for the iPad. These are apps I plan on installing or would recommend for your new iPad. This time I’ve added links directly to the App Store so if you’re on your iPad, you can just click to bring you right to the app. unfortunately I haven’t found a nice button for the iPad App Store yet so you’ll have to use the iPhone one for now :(
Things ($19.99)
This is the task management app I use on my iPhone and my Mac. Now, having it for my iPad I will be able to stop carrying around a clipboard. I mostly just use the iPhone app for adding tasks when I’m mobile because there’s just not enough screen size to see the full task name. A recent update to the iPhone app did allow for landscape view which helped.

HTML Edit ($6.99)
I’ve never used this before on my iPhone but it looks pretty useful. It lets you login to your webpages and connect to them via FTP. Then you can download the page’s HTML and edit it. Then upload it back up to your server.

iPad Apps Now In App Store!
The App Store has officially opened up to iPad apps. I’ve heard there are over 1,000 already! I’ve been browsing through them and found some great ones already. I am blown away by developers creativity and can’t wait to see even more apps that are still in development. Here’s some shots of the ones I’m looking to get once I get my iPad. Btw, I am getting one but I’m waiting for the 3G version. It’s estimated to be released about 30 days after the iPad launch which is April 3rd.

iBooks Store May Contain 30,000 Free Books

I haven’t really been excited about the new iBooks Store coming on the new iPad because I just don’t read a lot of books. I read online all the time, just not books. Anyway, this bit of news got me excited about the iBooks Store. Apparently the entire collection of books in the Gutenberg Project will be in the iBooks Store. This includes over 30,000 books that are out of copyright. Some of those books include: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Through the Looking-Glass.
The iPad: The Future of Comics
This is a hilarious comic from FoxTrot about the iPad and the future of comics. If you know of any other comics that include the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, share them in the comments!
