mAdvLock – Password Protect Applications and Sim Card…Encrypt Files

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free & $14.99

mAdvLock mAdvLock is an application that allows you to password protect App Store, Stock and Jailbroken application as well as your Sim Card. It also allows you to encrypt files on your iPhone or iPod Touch allowing them to only be viewed within the application.

Ok, applications like these always make me a little nervous. Honestly, it is for these type of apps that I ALWAYS whip out one of the test iPhones instead of using my personal iPhone! :) So, as usual, one of our test iPhone’s was the guinea pig for this one and after some testing, I was pleasantly surprised with this application.

When you first install mAdvLock, it will respring your SpringBoard. Once that is finished, and you open the application, you will notice that it informs you that the stock password is 123 and that you need to reboot your device. So, as the app says….reboot your device! Once you have rebooted, go ahead and reopen the app (the password is 123). Now, you will see a lower menu bar with the options; App Lock, Finder, Coffer, Settings and Help. The first thing you will want to do is go into the Settings. Here you can change your password and create a little hint for if you forget your password (though, I would highly suggest not forgetting your password for this app!!). In the Settings, you can also turn on the SIM Card password protects. [Read more…]

Lock Calendar – Display Calendar Events on Lock Screen

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Lock Calendar Lock Calendar is a simple application that allows you to display your upcoming calendar events on your lock screen. I know there are a few other applications that also allow for this functionality on firmware 2.x (IntelliScreen, RemindYou) however, both are paid applications. Lock Calendar is free. When you install Lock Calendar, your events will automatically start to display on your lock screen…you do not turn the app on via WinterBoard. It will display your next ten upcoming events. The events are categorized by date and also display the time and title of the event. The app has a decent design and showed up nicely on all the wallpapers that I tested. [Read more…]

AiS Ok, for the longest time I have not been able to figure out how to easily take a screenshot of my lock screen on my iPhone. Here is what I figured out…ok, Doug actually told me about it! :) Either way, below are step-by-step instructions on how to take a screenshot of your lock screen on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

IntelliScreen 2.2

Available In: cydia       Price: $4.99 – $49.99

intelliscreen There is an update to IntelliScreen 2.2, a lock screen enhancing application, in Cydia today. Below is a complete list of changes, bug fixes and known problems. One things that I did find interesting is that the update is said to make IntelliScreen compatible with firmware 2.1 however, Doug and I have both been using IntelliScreen on our 2.1 for a while now and it seemed to work fine. So, I’m not sure what the deal is with that.

One cool new feature includes a new vibration alert that will vibrate with; Mail=2 fast beeps, SMS=2 slow beeps, Call/VM=3 beeps, Calendar=4 beeps. Another cool new feature is that after you make your changes in IntelliScreen, it no longer resprings the SpringBoard. After you make the change and select Apply, the app just closes. It is kind of weird at first because you expect it to respring but I definitly like it!! They also say that that overall InteillScreen is [Read more…]

iPhone Passcode Not as Secure as Once Thought!

Settings I found out read today that there is a work around for the iPhone’s Passcode, making the iPhone not as secure as I once thought it was! It seems that when your iPhone is locked and you are prompted to enter your Passcode, you can select Emergency Call and then double tap your Home Button and it will launch your double tap settings. Meaning, if you have your Favorites set as your Home Button double tap (your iPhone’s Home Button double tap is set automatically to your Favorites so, if you have never changed it in your Settings, that it what it is set as), people are able to get into your Favorites even if your iPhone is locked.

At first this may not seems like an issue. So, they might call a few of the people on your Favorites list. Well, it also means that if you have an address, email address, Safari link, etc in any of the info for your contacts they can get into all of that as well. If you have an email address set for one of your favorites, [Read more…]

Available In: Cydia       Price: $4.99 – $49.99

IntelliScreen The update to version 2.01 of IntelliScreen just makes a few changes to the application. The two visual changes include the ability to choose alert sounds (see screenshots below) and an IntelliDial screen even if you do not have any Favorites selected. Now, if you press the Home button to go to IntelliDial and you do not have any Favorites selected you will get a screen that says, “IntelliDial uses your contact favorites. You have no favorite contacts.” There was also one bug fix that had to do with the app not starting. Other than that, no major changes. Though, I sure am glad to have IntelliScreen back! I really missed this app!! You can get IntelliScreen 2.01 in Cydia via the Intelliborn source.

Nevelock 2.0

Nevelock is a simple app that will keep your iPhone from going into autolock when you are connected via SSH. After installing this app I turned on my autolock to 1 minute. When not connected to SSH the iPhone locked like normal after 1 minute. I connected to my iPhone via SSH and gave it another minute, this time it shouldn’t have locked, but it did. So I turned my iPhone off and back on to see if that would help… it didn’t. My iPhone still locked after a minute even when connected to SSH. Let me know if this works for you and what you did to get it to work. You can get Nevelock via the iSpazio source.

UPDATE: iSpazio let us know in the comments that the way this works is based off the status of the switch in Bossprefs for SSH. So you will need to install that. It does not monitor if you have an SSH connection made.
