Tonight, my wife and I went to dinner with friends, one being a local radio station manager. He was telling me one of his employees was super excited about a DJ app that was released recently. He said the guy had been waiting for the app and that I should check it out. Well, looking for videos for tonight’s Friday Night Movie Night I just happened to run across the same app and I’m telling you, from the video, it looks like it’s worth the $19.99 their asking for it. I’m gonna try hard to get a promo code for this app and get a video review of all it’s features. Being such an expensive app, you need to know what it can do before you buy. Here’s their promo video which is pretty convincing if you’re into this kinda stuff.

Sonos recently announced the Sonos ZonePlayer S5 a powerful, wireless music system that not only delivers quality sound but also allows for remote access via the Sonos Controller App.

I was totally stoked to hear that PocketTouch had made it into the App Store. PocketTouch was definitely one of the most popular jailbroke applications and I always love to see those apps make it to the App Store.

For those of you unfamiliar with the app, PocketTouch is a music controller for your iPhone or iPod touch. The beauty of PocketTouch is that you can control your music without having to look at your device… all the controlling is done through taps, swipes and shaking.

Once you have a song playing in your music player, you can launch PocketTouch.

Gesture Controls:
    • Double Tap – Pauses and Plays the song
    • Swipe Up and Down – Controls Volume Level
    • Swipe Right – Advances to Next Track
    • Swipe Left – Restarts Song
    • Triple Tap on Status Bar – Allows you to select any song from iPod

Shake Controls:
    • Shake Device – Advances to Random Track

If for some reason the stock control options do not feel natural, the app is extremely customizable. You can get into the app’s Setting by tapping on the “i” icon on the upper right side of the statusbar.

Additional Gesture Options:
    • Reverse T. Swipes – This will change the tracks controls so that swiping right restarts the song and swiping left advances to the next track
    • Reverse Vol Swipes – This will change the volume controls so that swiping up turns the volume down and swiping down turns the volume up
    • Swap x/y Axes – This will reverse the controls so that the track swipe is controlled by swiping up and down and the volume control is controlled by swiping left and right.

The appearance of the app is also very customizable.

Appearance Options:
    • Show Track Info – If this option is turned on, it will display the song artist, name and album title.
    • Random Transitions – If this option is turned on, the transitions will be random
    • Disable Auto-Lock – If this option is turned on, your device will not auto-lock
    • Volume HUD – If this option is turned on, the stock volume HUD (that is the little volume pop-up you get when you adjust the volume on your device) will display when you adjust the volume level

Many of you are probably familiar with qTweeter, a very unique twitter and facebook client. We have been doing reviews of qTweeter for quite a while now. Well, it seems that the app has now been released in the App Store under the title qStatus… and still contains many of the same features.

I received an email from the developers that saying that jailbroke version of qTweeter will need some updating in order to function with the 3.1 firmware… which may take some time. However, qStatus it is now available in the App Store. Obviously, you can not slide from the statusbar to launch qStatus but, the app does still contain the features listed below (which some of the features are actually pretty cool… I’ve always liked this application).

ZodTTD, the developer of psx4iphone and quake4iphone has been developing an App Store application called Streamer. Today, the app was approved by Apple. Streamer is an application that allows you to stream internet radio and television.

The application comes stock with 6 audio streams and 6 video streams. You can able to add a stream using the Bookmark option. Once a stream is playing; you can pause it, bookmark it and watch it using the Now Playing option.

Overall, a simple application that is easy to use. It works great over WiFi (obviously) however, it doesn’t do so well on Edge. You will have to let me know in the comments if this in an application you will install and use.

DrumBeat is a drum simulator. The simulator includes 5 drums (including a base drum) and 5 symbols. I’m no drummer so, I can’t tell you if they sound like they should, but they sound good to me! You can get DrumBeat via the BigBoss source.

SBSetting Volume MC is a SBSettings toggle that turns your volume control into iPod controller. Once installed, the app is added to SBSetting (you may need to go into the More/Set Toggles options and turn it on). When it is activated, it turns your volume control on the side of your device into a controller for your iPod allowing you to scroll through your songs.

If you tap the volume up button on your volume control, it will go forward a song. If you tap the volume down button, it will go back a song. If you quickly tap the up and then the down button on your volume control it will pause the song. You can then either tap the up or down button to start the song again. One thing I like about this app is that it starts your iPod when you tap up or down. You do not have to go into your iPod start your music and then the app works. You can use SBSetting Volume MC to start your music.

The only problem I have with this app is that I am so used to using my volume control for my volume that I keep accidentally changing my song when really I want to adjust the volume. If you are going to use the SBSetting Volume MC app, I would suggest also installing the Volume Slider Widget. It is a SBSetting toggle as well which allows you to have an easy way to adjust your volume.

One thing that would be nice is if you held the volume button down, it affected the volume. So, instead of just a quick tap on the volume button to change the song, if you held down the volume up button, it would turn up the volume. Or maybe if you held the volume button up or down, it would fastward or rewind the song. That would be cool too….either one I guess!

There are quite a few cool new things going on over at Ocarina.com as well as with the application itself. For those of you who are not familiar with Ocarina, it is a musical instrument that uses the microphone to detect breath and then uses the iPhone’s touch screen to play different notes (similar to a flute or recorder). Check out THIS POST for more info.

In the last day, Ocarina was updated to version 1.2 adding a very cool, and much awaited, feature…the ability to record your music! Below are the specs we received from Smule and my how-to on how to use the new features.

Update Includes:
• Users can record personal libraries of their music
• Smule will host your personal libraries http://ocarina.smule.com/, allowing users to link to their own music from their favorite pages
• Users can share their recordings with non-Ocarina users and even non-iPhone users over email
• Just in time for the holidays, users can now record their favorite holiday songs and send one-of-a-kind musical greetings to friends and family
• New default “Staggered” finger-holes resolves the dreaded “Multi-touch” fingering bug! For those intrepid “Square” fingering layout users, you can still select “Square” finger-holes from the preferences pane.

Once you have updated Ocarina via the AppStore on your iPhone…you can open the application and go into the Settings (gear icon on the lower menu bar). You will now see the option for the new Staggered layout or the Square layout. You will also see the option to “record and share your melodies.” To record your melodies, you will need to select the Manual option. But, before you record anything, you will want to set-up an account.

To do so, select the Account Settings option in the upper right corner and create an account. Once you have sent the request email, you will receive an email in your inbox that has an activation link (it takes a few minutes to get the activation email). When you select the link, you will be able to set-up your username (Handle) and password. Once you have that set-up you can go back into Ocarina and the Account Setting and it will automatically log you in. If not, just enter your Handle and password.

Once your account is set-up, and you have selected Manual, you can go back into the main play screen. You will notice that it has added a menu bar to the top of your screen. To record your melody, tap the record button…this will add a blinking red dot at the bottom of your screen indicating that it is recording. You can then begin to pay. Once you are finished just tap Stop on the upper menu bar. You can then choose to archive the melody or to send it via an email. Archiving the melody will upload it to the Ocarina website in which you can then sign-in and see/hear your recording. You can also give the melody a title, enter the artist of the melody and select a genre for the melody. You can also download the audio file as an AAC file. If you choose to email the melody, it will send an email (a very pretty email) with a link to the melody on Ocarina’s website where they can then listen/download the file. If you receive the email on your iPhone, you can select the link and then select the Download AAC File option and it will play right on your iPhone. See screenshots below.

There are also a few cool new things on Ocarina’s website…Smule.com. You can download a PDF of Holiday melodies which include the a score on how to play each song including the correct finger positions, new note instructions, note practice guide and music theory information. It is very detailed! The Holiday songs include; Good King Wenceslas, Jingle Bells, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Up on the Housetop, Joy to the World and Deck the Halls.

If you remember iSlsk, a P2P client from firmware 1.1.4 and below, you will recognize MewSeek. MewSeek is iSlsk for firmware 2.x. It has basically the same look and the same features as iSlsk. When you open MewSeek, you will get a Terms of Agreement in which you will need to accept before entering into the application. Once in the application, you will notice that the lower menu options have not changed they still include; What’s New which gives you more information about the application, Settings, File Search, Transfers and Downloads.


You can sign up for an account in the Settings. If you already had an account for iSlsk…you can use that same username and password. File Search still allows you to search for files and looks exactly that same as it did before. The same goes for the Transfers option…looks and functions the same as before. The only option that is not currently available is the Downloads option. MewSeek does not (at this time) download the files to your stock iPod application on your iPhone or iPod Touch either. However, the files that you download can be played via PwnPlayer. They show up in PwnPlayer’s File System section and play with no problem (at least the ones I tried).

Overall MewSeek works great…I did not have any issues using the application. I also love that it continues to download files in the background when you close the application. When MewSeek is connected, you will get a little MewSeek icon on your Status Bar. To disconnect MewSeek just go into Settings and select the Disconnect button in the upper left corner. Like all P2P clients, be sure to read all information regarding the use of this application before using.
