For those of you who may have missed the full release of ScreenRecorder, it is a simple application that captures video of your device’s screen. ScreenRecorderDemo is actually a free, demo version of the same application. The demo version does have a few restrictions including; it will only record for 30 seconds, you are not able to email saved video files and it is ad supported. However, it is nice for those of you who would like to try it out before committing to the $1.99 price tag for the full version.

The app has been through a few changes since the first time we reviewed it so I will give you a quick overview.

Since it’s initial release, the app now allows the ability to record audio while capturing the screen. A very nice feature! You are able to turn the Audio Recording on/off. If you turn the Audio Recording on, it does take quite a bit longer to save the files once you are done recording. The UI has also received a nice update… it is much cleaner. Other than that, it still functions much the same.

How it Works:
First you will need to choose whether you would like the app to record audio while capturing the screen. Once you have chosen the audio setting, tap the Capture button. You will then be given a five second countdown before the app starts recording. This allows you time to hit the Home Button to get out of the ScreenRecorder app and onto your device’s Home Screen. To stop capturing, you will need to go back into the ScreenRecorder app and tap the Stop button. The app will then save your recording (this could take a while based on how long the video is and whether or not you recorder audio).

Once your video has been saved, you can view it by selecting the Files option on the lower menu bar of the app. Here you can email files, view files and delete files. The recordings are saved as .mov files.

To get files off of your device you will either need to email them or ssh them off. If you decide to ssh them off your device, they are located in the /var/mobile/Media/ScreenRecorder folder.

Pretty simple and easy. A nice little application.

App Description:

This application let’s you take video captures of your screen. This is extremely useful for quick tutorials or demonstrations, or when you want to show proof of a new hack you have accomplished. There are obviously many other uses for this. For example, you could use this like a “Notes” application, but with video instead of words!

Must be installed with FFMPEG and Gawk.
If you want to use audio recording with the iPod Touch, you must have a microphone.

The device is called ProTrack and it connects to a few different models of iPods. What I’m interested in is the iPod Touch connectivity. I do a lot of live recording and with two XLR inputs, two 1/4″ jacks and 2 live mics, this thing is sweet! They only run $200 which isn’t bad considering alternatives. Of course you do have to buy an iPod touch but if you already have one then you’re all set. I was really hoping for iPhone support so when I went looking around I found the iPhone noted in some comments on an accessory. I’m guessing if you turn on airplane mod you’ll be fine. ScreenRecorder is simple little app that captures video of your screen. Just load the app and hit record, then load the app you want to record. ScreenRecorder runs in the background. Once you’re done recording, you have to go back into the ScreenRecorder app to stop the recording. The developer warns of not recording over about 45 seconds due to memory issues and then crashing. You can view the videos from the app but not in your camera roll. This means you have to SSH off the videos to then upload them to a online service. From my tests, it’s not a very high frame rate but better than nothing. There is also no audio.

No need to type your Facebook update…now you can speak it! FaceMic is a pretty cool application that allows you to record audio and then send it straight to your Facebook page (posting it on your “wall”). FaceMic is very well designed and extremely easy to use.

When you open FaceMic, you will notice four options on the lower menu bar; Record, History, Setup and About. You will want to start with the Setup option. Here you will need to enter your Facebook info (email address and password). Once you have finished entering your info, you will then need to select the Grant Permission option. That is all it takes to setup FaceMic.

To record audio, all you need to do is head over to the Record option and then select the red record button in the center of the screen. It begins recording right away so make sure you are ready! As you record to can see the time and the volume of your recording. To stop recording, just tap the red record button again. You can then listen to your recording using the green play button. If you would like to re-record the audio just tap the red record button again (this will delete your previous recording). You can enter a title for the recording in the text box at the top of the screen. Once you have the recording and the title how you would like it, just select the Publish to facebook option and your recording it immediately sent to your Wall on facebook where it can very easily be listen to.

You can view and listen to your past recordings using the History option.

Overall, I find this application to be well designed, easy to use and fun. Not only that but, the audio quality is good and the implementation on Facebook is sleek. Definitely worth the $0.99. It will be interesting to see if it takes off. I will admit that listening to an audio update is way more fun than reading one!

livecliq is an application that allows you to record video on your iPhone and/or stream video from your iPhone to livecliq.net. When you first open livecliq, it will ask to use your current location after that, you will be asked for your Token number. To receive a token number you must go to livecliq.net/download. Here you will need to sign up for an account. Once you have signed up for an account, you will need to enter your phone number (your full phone number 1-555-555-555) and then select download. They will then send a text message, that contains a link, to your iPhone. It only takes a few seconds to get the text message. Once you receive the text message you can select the link in the text. This will bring you to a page that will contain your Token number. Now, you can go back into livecliq on your iPhone and enter your token number.


Once you have entered your Token number, you will be brought into the main application. Here you will see the preview screen as well as a lower menu bar. The options on the lower menu bar include, Prefs, Mute, Sync, Record and Stream. In the Preferences, you are able you change the Stream Resolution (236×176, 176×144 and 320×240), turn on/off mute, and enter your stream information. You can also choose whether or not you would like your recordings and streams to be public or private. The default is Public which means everyone will see all the videos you have recorded and any live streaming that you do.

Ok, now for the fun part. To record a video, you just select the record option. You will see the time start above the preview image. It will be recording both video and audio (as long as you don’t have Mute selected). Once you are finished recording, just select Stop. Now you will have the option to change the Title of the video, add tags to the video and choose whether or not you would like that video to be public or private. Once you have entered all the info, select Done in the upper right corner.

Once you have recorded a video (or two or three) you can select the Sync option. Here you can either sync all your videos at once or select the specific videos you would like to upload. You can also delete your videos from this menu as well. Your videos do not actually upload to livecliq.net until you have synced them. So, once you select the videos you would like to sync, select Sync Selected (or Sync All). It will then begin to upload your videos to livecliq.net. It will display orange lines on the screen indicating it’s progress.

Ok, now for the Live Streaming part of the application. When you select Stream it will start to stream directly to livecliq.net. After testing, I did find that it was a little delayed (which is expected) but it definitely was streaming live to the website.

To watch all the videos you have synced or your live streams, you can just go to livecliq.net. The website is actually very nice and very user friendly. You can edit all your synced videos and live streams from there as well.

I did have the application crash once while trying to sync a video and lock-up another time when I select Record. Overall, I actually really like this application. Everything is very easy to use (including the website) and the videos seem to have decent video and audio quality. Most definitly an application you will want to check out! It is nice to see a few familiar apps being released for firmware 2.0. SpoofApp is an app that allows you to record calls, change your voice when making a call and change the display number when you make a call. There are a few change with the new version of the application. When you open SpoofApp, it will look basically the same. The Recordings option on the lower menu bar has a new icon and the Free Minutes button in the upper right corner has been changed to a Help option. When you open the Settings you will notice that they have changed slightly. Besides having a new look, there is also the option to turn on/off the Keypad Sounds.

The Buy Minutes options has also improved. The cost of the minutes has not changed (prices listed below). You are also still able to get five free minutes.

The app itself functions the same. When you make a call, you get the same options as in the previous version…the ablity to choose a voice and the ability to turn the recording on or off.

The Recording options looks much nicer in this version of SpoofApp. When you go into the Recording option, it looks the same but when you select a recording…the interface is much improved. The only new option is the ablity to delete the call and any recording of that call. You are still able to download all call recordings to your computer via spoofcard.com.

I always forget how much I like application until I test it again! It is just so easy to use and seriously funny!

Back on the main screen, you can now choose Record. You will get a pop-up saying that it is preparing for recording and then the actual record window. When the recording window opens it will automatically start recording…so you will want to be ready! You are able to adjust the record volume by using the slider bar. The audio volume is displayed with a green bar…as the audio gets louder the green bar moves to the right. You can also pause the recording and stop the recording. Once you select stop (or you run out of recording time…on the trial version you can only record for 60 seconds), it will buffer and then you will get another pop-up with the three options again; You will now you will see your recording on the list.

You can tap on a recording from the list to get even more options such as; Playback, Send to Ringtone, Send by email, Rename, Delete and Dismiss. Playback will playback your recording. You can select Stop Playing and it will stop the playback. Send to Ringtone will send the recording to the Ringtones section of your iPhone…make sure that you create a .m4a file if you would like to send it to your ringtones. Send to email allows you to attach the audio file to an email. This worked great for me. I created the recording as an .mp3 and was able to open and listen to the email attachment with no problem. Rename allows you to create your own title for the audio file however, when you rename the file make sure you keep the file type (.mp3, .m4a or .aac) at the end of the file name. For example, test.mp3, Brooke.m4a. If you do not have the file extension at the end of the title and you hit OK, it will delete the recording. The final menu options are Delete which will delete the file and Dismiss which will bring you back to the main screen.

Overall, the audio quality seems fine to me. I like that you can easily email a recording and that are quite a few setting options. iPhone Recorder is available through the iSpazio source.
