QuickScroll is now available in Cydia. QuickScroll is an application that allows you to quickly scroll in a page. We did a pre-release review of this application a few days ago… you can see it HERE.

The app is pretty easy to use. Once installed, you hold one finger on the page and then triple tap with another finger. This will bring up the box that displays where you are on the page and allows the ability to quickly scroll to another section of the page (by dragging the green box). QuickScroll also allows scrolling in PDF’s:

 1. In a PDF file, triple tap on anywhere (hold one finger and triple tap the other to avoid resizing).
2. A dialog will appear. Enter the page number and press “Go” to jump to that page.
3. Press “Scroller” to scroll around.

You can view the full User Manual HERE.

The only issue I have found with this application is that you have to hold your finger on a spot on the page that is not “clickable” and then triple tap in a another spot that is not “clickable.” This can prove to be a challenge on some pages! You can get QuickScroll via the BigBoss source.

Find In Page (FindInPage for 2.x firmware), a Safari bookmark that allows you to search a web page, has been updated to work specifically with the 3.0 firmware. This mod does not add an icon to your SpringBoard but instead adds a bookmark in Safari. To use the Find In Page bookmark, go to a web page in Safari, then select the icon on the lower menu bar that looks like a book. This will bring up a list of your bookmarks. Just tap on the Find In Page bookmark.

Once you select the Find In Page bookmark, you will get a pop-up where you can type in the word (or words) you would like to search the page for. It will then give you a pop-up displaying how many matches it found on the page. The matches will be highlighted in yellow on the page.

If you would like to remove the bookmark, you will need to remove it in Safari like you would any other bookmark (go into your bookmarks, select Edit and then delete the bookmark). Uninstalling the Find In Page application via Cydia will not delete the bookmark out of Safari…you have to do that via Safari.

Overall, this is a handy little bookmark that works well. One thing I did notice, like in the previous version, once you have searched for the a word in a page it will keep that word highlighted even if you go back out and search for a new word. Not a huge deal, just something to note. You can get Find In Page via the BigBoss source.

Note: If you would like to have this app on the 2.x firmware, be sure you install the FindInPage app instead of the Find In Page app.

Well, there is a solution, BlankNull. BlankNull is an application that, when installed, removes the “link” on webclips. So, when you miss your icon and tap on a blank icon, it will no longer open Safari. Instead, it will do nothing…it basically turns it into a blank icon instead of a webclip! Pretty cool!

But, I will have to admit that this is not the first time we have seen this application. BlankNull is normally part of the Apple-News.fr source however, it has apparently now been added to the BigBoss source.

Note: This is a code app. When you install it, it instantly affects your blank icons. There will be no icon on your SpringBoard for this application.

Actually it works in my computer’s browser. What the computer browser doesn’t do is track my location. That’s right, I got this pop up when accessing the page in my 2nd Gen iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 3.0 Beta 5 while in Safari:

I tested it on Brooke’s iPhone, which is a 2nd Gen iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.2.1, and I got this:

It has all the other features like list of map directions, map routing, traffic, satellite & map views, search, and more. You can pinch, zoom, double tap and use in landscape mode too. You can try it out by going http://gjm.google.com/mwm.

When I upgraded to the 3.0 firmware I thought that it was pretty kewl that a few features from jailbreaking where still in place. My carrier was still set to “Ahhyeah” and my battery percentage was still in the status bar. This usually happens with any jailbreak followed by a firmware upgrade. I set both features when jailbroke; my carrier logo with MakeItMine and the battery percentage with Supreme Preferences.

This is all kewl but what caught my attention was the battery percentage looked different. I used to be able to tap on my battery and it would switch to numbers, just numbers. Now it’s to the left of the battery and there all the time. It also has a percent sign(%) next to it and when it drops to 20% or lower, the text turns red. I thought maybe this was a developer feature when beta testing firmware but I had never heard of it before and wasn’t hearing anyone else talk about it with current firmware.
google_ad_slot = "2797682692";

google_ad_height = 60;
//-->

Recently, AppleInsider and some other sites have been talking about some hidden features being discovered withing firmware 3.0. One of them… battery percentage. I’m actually on Beta 2 right now so I’m guessing it’s been there since beta 1 but they are just now finding it. So far I haven’t found a way to turn it on and off but I don’t have Beta 3 yet, although it may not be in there yet either.

Another feature is in Safari. After closing all pages but your current page, you can now tap the red X on the last page to get a blank page. This is a nice feature but of course the best is the ability to close all tabs at once. I hear this is a new feature to come but I don’t see it in my Beta 2. If you can’t wait, there’s a jailbreak version that works great.

Finally, data detectors are the ability for the iPhone to detect things like phone numbers and email address with in text in apps. Once detected you can click them to launch the phone app or email. (again, working on Beta 2)

When you install Safari Tab Closer, it does not add an icon to your SpringBoard, it just automatically enables the mod. I was impressed with how quickly the app was updated and I personally love the what the update does! With the previous version of Rotation Inhibitor, you used to have to toggle the feature within each application that you didn’t want to auto-rotate. With the update, you can turn off the Rotation Inhibitor while on your SpringBoard (or while in any application) and it will turn off the auto-rotate for all applications! Very nice!

I did find that when I updated the app, it removed my WinterBoard mods. However, the developer says that you can respring your iPhone or iPod Touch and they will all come back. I just went into WinterBoard and unchecked and rechecked my theme and everything came back with no problem. Let me know in the comments if you like the update and if the app is working correctly for you.

Rotation Inhibitor is a toggle for SBSettings (I seriously love SBSettings…sorry, tangent). The toggle allows you to turn on/off the auto-rotate feature. The toggle allows you to turn on/off the auto-rotate feature. This includes the auto-rotating in Safari, iPod or anything else that changes orientation when you turn your iPhone or iPod Touch. I was SUPER excited when I saw this toggle in Cydia. I don’t know about you but, when I am laying in bed and surfing the web (you know you do it!), it is so annoying when my iPhone switches to landscape mode (or continues to rotate between portrait and landscape mode!). Anyway, once you install the application, you will then need to go into SBSettings and make sure that it is activated. If it doesn’t automatically show up, you will need to go into the More option in SBSettings and then the Set Toggles option and turn on Rotation.

If you want to stop the auto-rotating, you need to toggle the Rotation feature off. To get your auto-rotate back, toggle the Rotation option on. I am having a few issues with this app…whether it is a bug or just personal preference I don’t know! I have found that you cannot just toggle the Rotation feature off and have it stop all auto-rotating. You have to actually be in the application and then toggle the Rotation option. For example, if you want to stop auto-rotating in Safari, you have to open Safari and then open SBSetttings and toggle the Rotation option. If you then went into iPod…it would still auto-rotate until you open SBSetting and toggle the Rotation feature again. Personally, I just want to toggle the Rotation option from my SpringBoard and have it turn off all auto-rotating but, that is just personal preference!
