Well, I would like to add to BigBoss’s warning. After spending some time using Freeboard, I would also not recommend using it at this time. When you enable FreedBoard it resets any custom System settings. Due to this, it will reset (and disable/break) other applications like Kate, IntelliScreen, iPhoneHome (it deleted my custom Home button double-tap), Pysl…etc. I also noticed that it did not reset everything until I restarted my iPhone, then all my custom system settings were reset. In order to fix them, you have toggle Freeboard off, restart your iPhone, unistall the applications that got disabled, restart your iPhone again and then reinstall the applications. At least that is what I had to do to get mine working again. You can still have Customize installed just do not enable Freeboard. Let me know in the comments your experience with Freeboard.

A new version of Customize was released today via the ModMyiFone source. The update adds a feature called Freeboard. Freeboard is a SummerBoard “replacement.” However, before you use Freeboard please read the warning below.

via BigBoss.

Customize has released an update that has a SummerBoard replacement built in called “FreeBoard”. If you enable this feature, it will disable SummerBoard. At this point, you probably do *not* want to do this. And enabling FreeBoard could cause your phone to stop booting.

The iPhone has about an 80 app limit. This includes webclips. Once you hit this limit, your phone won’t boot. It just spins and reboots over and over again. SummerBoard patches this bug (bug by Apple, fix by SummerBoard). If you enable FreeBoard feature within Customize, you will lose SummerBoard’s fix. If you have more than 80 apps, you will not be able to boot.

If you are already in this situation and need to fix the problem without restoring, you can do so by using SSH/SCP or something like iPhoneBrowser to remove folders in /Applications until the phone boots. Then you can reinstall the apps you had to delete. Don’t remove anything critical. Easiest fix is to use winscp or such and make a temp folder called “Temp” in /Applications. Then just drag enough folders from /Applications into /Applications/Temp until the count is around 75. Then reboot the phone, disable freeboard, make sure SummerBoard is enabled, and move all the folders from /Applications/Temp back to just /Applications.

The update to MMiThemer version 0.20Beta should fix the issue quite a few of you were having with themes not showing up in SummerBoard. I cannot tell you for sure if it fixes the bug because the previous version of this application worked for me. You will have to let me know in the comments if this fixes the bug for those of you having issues. For the rest of you in which the previous version worked, this version should also work just fine for you. I was able to install a new theme using MMiTheme 0.20, it showed up in SummerBoard and I was able to set it as my theme. I hope this version fixes that bug so that it will work for the everyone else because, I think this application is really cool! MMiThemer is available through the ModMyiFone source.

Note: There is also a new icon with the update.

Ok guys, I gave you a quick review of MMiThemer earlier tonight (via my iPhone)…here is the full review. MMiThemer is a theme application that allows you to easily install themes that are uploaded to ModMyiFone.com’s theme download section. This application works together with SummerBoard (SMBPrefs). When you install a theme using MMiThemer…it will add it to your themes in SummerBoard. What this does is gives you access to hundreds of great themes and makes them easy to install!

When you open MMiThemer, it will open to the Home page. If you select the ModMyiFone iPhone Forums option on this page, it will bring you to an iPhone Optimized version of the ModMyiFone.com forums (it opens it right in the application). Along the lower menu bar there are five other options, they include; Featured which does not do anything at this time, Popular, Latest, Installed and Search. The Popular option will bring you to a list of the highest ranked themes. Most of these will have an A in the lower right corner. The ranking scale goes from A to F. You cannot rank a theme in MMiThemer, this is done on the ModMyiFone website in the theme download section. The Latest tab will bring you to a list of the most recently uploaded themes. The Installed option will give you a list of all the themes you have installed using MMiThemer and Search will allows you to search all the themes.

Once you have found a theme you would like to install, select it. This will bring you to page with more information about the theme including; the title of the theme, the author, the date is was added, the rating (A-F) and how many times it has been downloaded. If you would like to Install it select Install in the upper right corner. Once it has installed it will be added to the Installed section in MMiThemer. To uninstall a theme just go into the Installed section, select the theme you would like to uninstall and then select Uninstall in the upper right corner. Installing and Uninstalling themes is quick on WiFi and on Edge.

Once a theme is installed you can go into SummerBoard on your iPhone and select the Themes option. They will be in the list of all the SummerBoard themes you have installed. Once in the list, you can select the theme you would like to install and Restart SpringBoard. Your SpringBoard will restart and you will have a new theme.

The first three I installed were; Chalkwork, The Lonely Tree and iRobert…they are all really cool! The only issue we had with this application is that when both Doug and I installed it, it made our iPhone’s a little glitchy. We both had to restart our iPhone…I had to restart mine a few time. But, after that, MMiThemer has worked fine! You can get MMiThemer though the ModMyiFone source.

ModMyiFone has just released a seriously sweet application. MMiThemer is a theme application that allows you to easily install themes that are uploaded to ModMyiFone’s theme download section. One you have installed MMiThemer, you can go in and view Featured Themes, Popular themes, Latest themes, see the Themes you have installed using MMiThemer, Search for a theme and go to the Home page. To install a theme, just click on a theme and then select Install. Once you have installed a theme, it will be added to your SummerBoard themes in SummerBoard. To set the theme as the theme in your iPhone, just go into SummerBoard and select it. We did notice that eight after you install the application, our iPhones were a little glitchy but that was fixed after a restart. Other than that…it seems to work great and it is really really sweet. Get it through the ModMyiFone source.
