LockInfo, by David Ashman, is a seriously sweet mod that allows you to add information to your lockscreen such as; weather information, upcoming calendar events, missed calls, missed text messages and new emails.

Once installed, you can find LockInfo in your stock Settings application. The application is extrememly customizable and has some pretty cool features.

In the settings you are able to turn on/off a Lockscreen and Homescreen option. The Lockscreen option adds the mod to your lockscreen. The Homescreen option adds the mod as a page on your SpringBoard between your Spotlight Search page and the first page of your applications. You can have either have just the Lockscreen option, just the Homescreen option or both options turned on. Very cool.

A few other cool option include the ability to adjust the transparency of the mod, the ability to choose how you would like the Media Controls to display within the mod, the ability to collapse the cells (which allows you to tap on each option and collapse them giving you the ability view more information) and the ability to reorder the plugins.

Each of the plugins; Calendar, Mail, Phone, SMS and WeatherIcon are able to be customized as well as be disabled/enabled.

The mod displays very nicely on both the lockscreen and the homescreen. It is well designed and the effect on the “collapsing” feature is smooth. Overall, a sweet mod worth definitely checking out.

The only issue I have with the mod is that it is displaying yesterday’s events (Sunday… today is Monday) in the Calendar. I’m not really sure why but, it does. Not a huge issue but hopefully one that will be fixed in the next update. Ok, user error. The Calendar displays correctly!

Speaking of the next update, Ashman plans on adding more features to the mod including; Twitter, Facebook, Todo, Things, Push Notifications, MMS… etc. I look forward to seeing some updates!

SMS Helper, a mod that counts the number of characters as you type a text messages, was recently updated to version 0.3, 0.3-1 and 0.3-2. The major update was 0.3 which adds a text counter and setting options.

The text counter is a new feature that counts the number of text message you have sent. The counter is based on the “standard” text length of 160 characters. Since the iPhone can send messages longer that 160 characters, the app will count any text over 160 characters as two text messages (or three, or four…). To view the text counter, just tap on the header in the stock Messages application. The counter can be manually reset from there as well. SMS and MMS are counted separately.

The settings for the app are located in the stock Settings application. The settings include two options; the ability to choose what day of the month you would like the text counter to be automatically reset and the ability to turn the animations on/off. One of the animations is the fun flip affect you get when the send button switches to the character counter or vice versa. If you turn the animation off, the character counter/send button will just switch in instead of flipping over.

The developer notes, “The counter might not be accurate, it keeps track only when the MS hook is installed and running. Also there might be unforeseen problems in the counting, so use it as an estimate and not an accurate reporting.”

SpotSMS, a mod allows the stock Spotlight Search to search within your SMS (and MMS) messages, was update to version 0.4. The update adds the predicted Settings options.

Once updated, you can go into your stock Settings application and you will see a SpotSMS option. Below is a list of the Setting options. You can get SpotSMS via the BigBoss source.

Setting Options:
- Ability to enable/disable SpotSMS
- Search in Contact name, Message text or both.
- Search by sent, received or both.
- Configurable start search (2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th character).
- Order by date (descending/ascending).

SMS Helper, an mod that counts the number of characters as you type a text messages, was update to version 0.2. The update does make some changes to the mod.

The counter has been slightly redesigned and implemented a little differently. The counter is still located on the Send button however, the numbers seem to be bigger, brighter and clearer and it now displays how many characters are left until you reach 160 and how many times you have gone past 160 (example 47/2 = 47 characters until you have reached 160 characters twice which would send in two text messages).

Also, when you stop typing the counter now flips over to the Send button. It does seem to flip over a little too quickly but, I still like the feature. If you go over 160 characters the counter/send button turns red (though, it did do that in the last version of the app). Overall, a nice update to the application.

Remember, most devices (carriers) allow a text message of 160 characters before the message is split into two texts.

SpotSMS, a mod allows the stock Spotlight Search to search within your SMS (and MMS) messages, received an update not too long ago however, the newest update to version 0.3, really polishes the mod. Below are a few of the new features and a full change log.

Now when you search in the stock Spotlight search, all the SMS results display the contact’s title correctly. In the previous version, it was displaying some of the Contact’s correctly and other times it was still displaying the phone number.

Each of the SMS results now display a little arrow indicating if it was an incoming or outgoing SMS as well as the date the text was sent/received.

When you select one of the SMS results, you are now able to copy to text from the message. It also displays the time, date and who the message was received from/sent to.

The only issue I noticed with the update is that when you select a SMS result, the Close button is slightly covered. It still works it is just a little hidden. Overall, I like the update… the results definitely look a lot more polished now.

0.3 Change Log:
- Copy/Paste enabled
- Sent/Received image flags and date were added on result search.
- The contact name process recognition was improved
- More info about the message were added to detail popup view (sent/Received type, contact names and date-hour).

The “view my message” experience is the current method used by AT&T that allows iPhone users to view MMS messages by providing them with a temporary username and password which must be signed into using a computer and the MMS is then displayed in flash.

AT&T Free Msg: Picture & video messaging (MMS) will be available for iPhone on 9/25. While we prepare your account for MMS capability, the current “view my message” experience will be turned off but your ability to send and receive text messages will not be affected.

SpotSMS, s a mod allows the stock Spotlight Search to search within your SMS (and MMS) messages, received an update to version 0.2. The update changes the search results so that they display the contact’s name instead of just the phone number from which the text was received/sent. However, I noticed that even though most of results now display the Contact’s name, some still display the phone number. There doesn’t seem to be any specific reason that some display the name and others do not… let me know in the comments if you are experiencing the same thing.

SpotSMS is a mod, that once installed, allows the stock Spotlight Search to search within your SMS (and MMS) messages. There is no icon for this mod, it is a code mod. It is activated as soon as it is installed and would have to be uninstalled to be removed.

To use the mod, you can go into the stock Spotlight Search and enter text that you would like to search for. The search will start when you have entered at least three characters. SMS results will have the Messages icon next to them. You can tap on an SMS result to view the full text message.

I did notice a few things about this mod. First, is that the results display the phone number from which the text was received/sent instead of the Contact’s name or title. This can be a little annoying if you want to know who the text message is from but, you do not have the phone number memorized. Also, the description of the app says that it searches MMS messages as well as SMS messages. This was not the case for my iPhone. When I searched for text that I knew was included with an MMS… it did not display the message in the search results. That could have something to do with my hacked MMS or it could be a glitch in the app… I’m not sure.

Besides those two things, the application works normally. I will be keeping it around.

Popup Blocker is an application that allows you to control just about every popup that you could get on an iPhone and/or iPod touch.

Once installed, you can get to the app in your stock Settings application. Here you have the options to enable/disable the application, Block Away Items, turn on/off Wake On Alert (this turns on your screen when you receive an alert) and set Alerts.
