The BigBoss source was recently updated to version 0-10. The update removes the bigbossbetarepo source. So, if you have the bigbossbetarepo source installed and you update the BigBoss source, the bigbossbetarepo source will be automatically uninstalled (and removed). In future beta app releases, BigBoss will release a specific source url that will have to be manually added to the device. See BigBoss’s full article below. Or, check it out HERE on his website.

I put up a betarepository a month ago with the intent to have it host unstable packages for hacker level users that wanted to take an extra risk and were both willing and able to provide syslogs for debugging problems. This actually worked well for the BossPaper initial release.

It turns out that many users that did not fit the above description installed this repository anyway. In addition, all sources packages included it. Those “all sources” packages are dangerous and no one should ever install them.

The result of all this is that a bunch of end users have installed my latest beta updates intended for beta testers only. Due to that, I now have had Saurik release an update of the bigboss repository that conflicts with the beta repository. This will uninstall the beta repository from everyone when they upgrade the main source.

I will be posting the beta repository URL for users to manually type in for each beta test in the future and I will expect only users capable fo debugging problems (without complaining mind you) will install it.

Today, the iSpazio source received an update to version 0-5. I have been experiencing a lot of issues with the iSpazio source lately however, it seems that the update has fixed a majority of those issues. So, if you are also experiencing issues, I would suggest installing the update.

BigBoss recently released a new source in Cydia, bigbossbetarepo. The source will contain beta/alpha/test applications. This is not a repo that everyone will want to install. If you install the source, you need to be willing to test applications and give feedback about there performance. Because the apps released in this repository are test and beta, they do have the possibility of crashing your iPhone or iPod Touch (thus, requiring a restore).

If you decide to install bigbossbetarepo, you will need to also install Openssh (and be comfortable with ssh’ing) and logmailer (which allows you to inform developers of issues with their applications).

BigBoss does say that applications released in the bigbossbetarepo repo will eventually make their way to the main BigBoss source. So, if you do not want to beta test application and take the risk that it might include, just hold out until they are released in the main source.

GeoHot has released the entire source code for the purplesn0w unlock. For those of you interested, below is what he has to say and a link to the entire source for the unlock.

About a year ago today, I found the at+stkprof exploit. Back then, I struggled for 3 days to write a payload. No luck, I just wasn’t a good enough reverser. So I stashed the exploit away until December, when I gave it to dev for use in yellowsn0w.
Now a year later, I wrote a payload and delivery system in a day. And it’s an awesome payload. Ideally we’d like to patch the lock out of flash, but with the apparently proper sig checks, that isn’t going to happen. So purplesn0w is the next best thing. I copy the page I want to patch to an unused region of memory. In memory I patch it. Then, using the MMU, I map the flash page out and remap the patched memory page in it’s place.

No new iPhones are really unlocked, activation creates a ticket allowing the baseband to be used with that sim. The lockstate of the phone really lies on apples servers. Unlocked is auth all sims. Locked is auth AT&T sims only. Fortunately this ticket system provides an easy way to deliver the payload and reexecute the patched code all in one. And since the ticket is already delivered on baseband resets, theres no need to write another daemon to hog battery. I use the daemon already designed for this, lockdownd. A patch to commcenter gets it to run the payload on ticket delivery. And a patch to your activation record contains the payload. So using existing apple machinery, I unlock when needed.
In retrospect, I should’ve just patched commcenter to send the payload. Then hacktivation would work no problem. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I’ll add hacktivation support then.

There is an update to the iSpazio source in Cydia. The update changes the source url. I know a lot of you have said that lately you have been experiencing problems with the iSpazio source so, hopefully the update will help. The new source url is http://www.ispaziorepo.com/cydia/apt/

Doug and I have noticed in recent days that the Dev Team’s repo, that we had manually added to Cydia, was not working and we were not able to download the newest version of yellowsn0w. Well, it seems that they have released a new source via Cydia. So, no more adding the source manually…just open Cydia and install the Dev-Team source package. When you install the source, you are then able to install the new version of yellowsn0w, 0.9.7, which is compatibly with the “pwned 2.2.1 system (not baseband). Again remember 0.9.7 yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly – you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which didn’t upgrade the baseband during the restore/upgrade.”

I recently wrote a post about MacCiti, a new source, which is available for install via Cydia. MacCiti is a theme source which means it contains mostly themes, ringtones and wallpapers. So, I thought I would take a look at what they have to offer.

Honestly, it took WAY longer than I thought to install all the themes, get screenshots of each theme and organize them into a post. So, I apologize for not having this post out sooner. The screenshots are exactly what each theme looks like. I did not do any modding to individual themes which means, I did not turn on the transparent dock or turn off icon labels or check icon files to see if they were spelled wrong if they didn’t show up correctly in the theme. So basically, I didn’t do anything to make the theme look it’s absolute best (which I must add, drove me crazy!!). But, you will see what each theme looks like and it’s potential! Below are screenshots of most of the themes that are available via the MacCiti source…that way, you can decide if you would like to install it or not.

Note: I did notice that a few of the themes in this source are themes that were available in Installer and SummerBoard for firmware 1.1.4 and below…now ported to 2.x and WinterBoard. So, some of you may already be familiar with a few of these themes. Also, all of these themes are activated through WinterBoard.

There was an update to the Cydia Community Sources today. The update adds the iSpazio source to the list of sources. The sources url for the iSpazio source is http:ispaziorepo.com/cydia/apt/ The iSpazio source does add a few nice themes though I have found that the more info section of the themes does not work…so, no previews are available. But, if you haven’t already, you will want to check out the Reveal theme…it is one of my favorites!
