There are a lot of twitter apps in the App Store actually, there are quite a few good twitter apps in the App Store. Personally, I have always been partial to Tweetie and like many people I was totally stoked about the release of Tweetie 2. I’m still a believer in the app, but lets just say it has it’s bugs. So, I was once again stoked to hear about the update to version 2.1 of the app.

The update to Tweetie 2 version 2.1 includes quite a few bug fixes (thank goodness) and also quite a few cool new features. According to TechCrunch, there are two features that they think we will like the most; “New-style retweets and geolocation support.”

TechCrunch gives a nice overview of three of the new featuers of Tweetie 2.1; Retweets, Geolocation and Lists. Below are a few snippets from there review but, you can check out their full article HERE.

The update is scheduled to be submitted to the App Store later this week and then, as we all know, will have to go through the approval process. We will let you know when it is available. It will be a free upgrade for Tweetie 2 owners.

Retweets
While Twitter has yet to enable the new-style retweets or geolocation for most accounts, Tweetie 2.1 offers a glimpse of how it will work. Tweets from accounts with the new retweet function show up in Tweetie 2.1’s stream. As promised, these are the tweets from the actual person who originally sent it, rather than the person doing the retweeting.

But Tweetie 2.1 highlights these retweets in a nice way. First of all, you see both the user icon for person who originally tweeted the item and the person retweeting it. The original tweeter’s icon is big, while the retweeter’s icon is small and stuck in the lower right hand corner (see image). These tweets are also tagged with a pinkish-red triangle in the upper right hand corner to let you know this is a retweet. Clicking on these tweets takes you to a page that shows you the tweet from the original source, but also says at the bottom “retweeted by @USERNAME.”

Geolocation
Likewise, Tweetie 2.1 also shows off Twitter’s new geolocation support. Again, for accounts that have it turned on, these tweets show up in Tweetie 2.1 with a tiny red location pin in the upper right hand corner. Clicking on these tweets takes you to the tweet’s page which also has a little map preview below it showing what city the tweet was sent from. Clicking on this map loads up a larger Google Map inside of Tweetie 2.1 that pinpoints the actual location with a red push pin.

Version 2.1 Feature List:
* Geotag work
* New retweeting
* Post ‘message’ parameter through to custom Image endpoints
* Switch to WhatTheTrend
* Reorganized Search/More UI
* Accessibility work
* Image compression options
* Vidly, Mobypicture, and Posterous as video options
* New protocol handler to make it easier to install custom URL shorteners
* Fix TextExpander goofups
* Fix Japanese double-posting bug
* Fix email conversation
* Fix handling of iTunes links
* Google Mobilizer option (and custom Mobilizer)
* Fix rare hang when viewing reply chains
* Fix calling from address book page
* Fix cases where saving state doesn’t complete
* Disable browser rotation option
* Overlapr
* Report Spam
* Fix rare crash translating tweets
* Disable “mark as read” button when no unread – history=1 for j.mp
* Fix upsidedown image viewer and browser
* Disable Pinstripes option
* Fix tweetie:///post? style protocol handler
* Reorder Settings
* Link to Manual

This allows you to add your own choice for where your images are posted if you’re not happy with the list provided. Here’s where GDZLLA comes in. You just visit gdzl.la to setup your account and it will post your images to Flickr instead of something like Twitpic. This is awesome because now I can post my image once and not worry about uploading it to Flickr later. The only downfall is it doesn’t name the photos. You probably don’t want the whole tweet being the title. Maybe have the tweet go in the description. Right now it just names the picture “Photo” and the description “Uploaded from Tweetie 2 via GDZLLA“. Then it just needs to upload it to my Facebook account and we’d be all set. This is currently a free service.

I received an email from the developers that saying that jailbroke version of qTweeter will need some updating in order to function with the 3.1 firmware… which may take some time.
qStatus is the fastest, coolest and most efficient way to update your Twitter and Facebook Status. Below are some of the features:

-TwitPic Support
-TwitVid Support
-Tweet Shrink
-Tweet long
-Tweet your currently playing music
-Dedicate the current song your playing to your friends
-Customizeable background
-Twitter update sound

The beauty of qStatus is its Speed, Efficiency and Flexibility. Once you launch, you can immediately start tweeting and status updating. There is no waiting for tweets to load or buttons to press. It is just straight to the point without having to deal with the distractions of reading other peoples tweets. Once done writing, you can instantaneously post it to Facebook and Twitter or either one.

Music Tweeting is a great way to further express yourself on Twitter and Facebook. So when you are feeling a certain song, posting this to your status is just a few touches away. With qStatus, your Twitter followers and Facebook friends will be able to preview the song and purchase it. How cool is that!!

Another great thing about qStatus is that you are not restricted to 140 characters. There are a few times when you cannot fully express yourself in 140 characters. With our Tweet Long feature, you can fully express yourself and get your message across.

Best of all, qStatus supports TwitPic and TwitVid so you can upload pictures and videos. Unlike other Twitter apps, qStatus does picture uploading in a super cool way with a scaled full preview of your picture. To make uploading pictures faster, we have also put a camera button right in the interface so you can immediately take pictures.

All this great functionality is wrapped in an amazingly cool interface which allows you to put your own custom background.

This application is $9.99 so I haven’t broken down and purchased it yet. But, as you can see in this video, the app is pretty sweet. One thing I noticed in the video is the app is sending your voice up to a server to transcribe it, like the Google App and Shazam do. The conversion doesn’t happen right on the iPhone. Either way, pretty sweet when you’re driving!

Readdle has announces the release of AniGif, an application that allows you to create animated images from your photos and send them via email or post them to Twitter.

The application works by creating an animated gif from a set of photos either from your iPhone library or from photos that you take in the application. The images need to be in a progressive order for the app to work correctly. Once the images have been added to the application, you can rearrange them or delete specific images using the Edit option. When all the images are in the correct order, you can view the animation.

When in “View” mode, you can adjust the frame rate allowing you to speed up or slow down the animation. From here you can also email and tweet the animation. Because it is a .gif file, the animation should easily display in any email provider. When you tweet the animation, it uses TwitPic and displays just like any other image only, it’s animated.

One thing I found annoying about the application is that you can only import one image at a time into the app from your Photo Library. I think this takes way too long especially if you are importing quite a few photos and there are at the bottom of one of your Photo Albums. Other than that, the app does what it says it is going to.

Is it worth $1.99… that is up to you. If done correctly, it could look pretty cool. The app itself is simple to use and makes creating animations quick and easy. It also integrates nicely into Twitter and email. For more info check out their website.

qTweeter, a Twitter application, has been updated to version 2.0. The update adds a new feature – video. The really cool part is that you can send a video tweet not only from an iPhone 3GS but also an iPhone 3G and a first gen iPhone (on the 3.0 firmware)! Very cool.

If you are on a first gen iPhone or an iPhone 3G, you will need to install Cycorder via Cydia. qTweeter uses Cycorder to record the video you will tweet (and then uses TwitVid to post the video to Twitter and Facebook… you do not have to have TwitVid installed on your iPhone for it to work). The video is posted just like any other TwitVid video in both Twitter and Facebook. I also like that qTweeter allows you to upload a previously taken video.

It worked great for me on an iPhone 3G running 3.0 however, Doug had to uninstall it from his iPhone 3GS because it put it into continuous Safe Mode.

I personally have always thought this was a cool Twitter application. For a full review of the app please see previous posts about qTweeter. You can get qTweeter via the Ste Packaging source.
