Categories, an application that allows you to organize the applications on your SpringBoard into folders, was recently updated to version 2.99… with a few small updates since then. If you have not had a chance to check it out, you will find it to have a slightly new look. The new user interface and the ability to hide icons from within the Categories application itself are a few of the new features of the update (see change log below for complete list of changes).

The new UI basically adds an intro page from where you can then navigate to your folders, hidden icons, help section, troubleshooting… etc. The new intro page is nice and does make the app look and feel a lot cleaner. It also seems like the update improved the performance of Categories… it feels a little snappier.

However, I am having one problem with the update, the “i” button in the folders on my SpringBoard no longer work. When I select it, nothing happens. Normally when you select the “i” button you are able to turn on/off the Folder Title, Icon Labels, Background.png, Left/Right Scroll, Resident as well as change the number of rows, font color and choose a theme. I am no longer able to do this after the update. I’m not sure if that is just me or if it is a bug for everyone.

It seems as soon as I wrote about ProSwitcher, the next day an update was released. Here are some of the features of the new release. Show Icon toggle (allows for activation from springboard icon); Empty Tap to Close toggle; Show Default Apps toggle (hide apps like phone and mail); Empty Style options of Text, Blank or Disabled.

It also feels a little snappier but I have some many hack running I’m never sure what’s causing slow downs. Let me know if those of you having lag issues see improvement.

Other updates include: “Fixes issue with night setting not working unless ‘Use Local Time’ is set.” and “Compatibility with WeatherIcon Plugin 1.0.1.” The fix came out on December 23rd so some of you probably already have it. Let me know if it worked for you.

The official Flickr app has always been a let down for me. It’s missing some major features and made the app useless. There are still some features I’d like to see but I’ll post them at the end of this article. The new update adds two major features that should have always been there but props to the developer for finally getting them in there and for overall great UI design.

One of the new features now lets you upload more than one photo or video at a time. Although it’s a nice feature, the way it’s designed is not intuitive. You tap upload, select 1 picture, then it loads a screen to add info to that picture. To add another, tap “Add Item” and it brings you back to the camera roll. What’s annoying is if you are loading 10 picture from about 20 pictures ago, you have to do this for each one and have to scroll up each time because it loads at the bottom of the camera roll. Once you get them in, you can tap on each picture to edit the individual pictures info.

The other new feature allows you to edit already uploaded pictures. This is nice although you can only edit Title, Description, Tags, and Sets. Again, major problems here. When I upload pictures from my iPhone, the portrait ones show up as landscape and there is no setting to rotate them. It also doesn’t keep my geotag. It does allow you to use your current location as the geotag, but I’m not in the same place so it’s kinda pointless. It should pull the location from the exif data of the picture. Finally, it only loads about 20 of my sets when trying to select sets for the uploaded picture. I have many more and don’t have access to them as a choice.

I also had the app crash on me once and not load my pictures from my account.

Again, this app has beautiful UI design but is lacking in usability. Once these things are fixed, it will be a great app. Got any features you think are missing? Categories, an application that allows you to organize the applications on your SpringBoard into folders, has been updated to version 2.8. The update makes quite a few back-end changes to the app. Check out the complete change log below.

Note: We did have an issue updating Categories on one of our test iPhones. It took all the apps out of the folders and made the folders unable to be deleted. However, I updated Categories on my personal iPhone and I had no issues at all… it kept the folders and all the apps inside them.

Version 2.28 change log:
- Categories now support non-English character names; this includes punctuation
- All category creation/deletion/updating is handled by new CategoryTool
- Categories no longer runs as root
- As part of the non-English support, newly created categories
use a generic /Applications/Category### directory name. To help themers,
Categories.app now lists the path below the name of each category.
- CategoryTool is designed to be used by end-users as well, if they want
to use it. It includes a built-in help that describes the options. (Would require command line support in SSH).

The eBay iPhone and iPod touch application has received an update to version 1.5.0. The update add a few new features including Best Offer support with push notification, live countdown timers and the ability to share items via twitter, facebook and email. It seems the update is just in time for the Holiday season. You can view the full change log below.

Out of curiosity, do any of you guys use the eBay application… I totally do!

Yesterday, Categories, an application that allows you to organize the applications on your SpringBoard into folders, received a few updates. The update to version 2.27 was the major one which basically includes an internal rewrite of the app making the app perform much quicker. Updates 2.27.1 and 2.27.2 were basically bug fixes. See the complete change log below.

After updating, I definitely notice an improvement in the app’s functionality. It is MUCH quicker and just feels less bulky. So far, I have not had one crash… which is great! Normally, Categories will crash a few times on me. I also love that when adding an application to a folder, the apps are now in correct Alphabetical order! It makes adding applications so much faster and easier!

Overall, a great update… you will want to be sure to update to update this one. You can get Categories via the BigBoss source.

- Fixed issue on update that caused some users to see no folders after update from 2.26. (Sorry, while this should solve the issue, it wont undo what was done for you that already experiences it meaning you have to set folders up again if this happened to you).

- Fixed issue where editing name or icon only edited first folder in the list.
- Reworked the package, itself, so that it won’t install with CategoriesSB version less than 1.1. This caused some updates to lose contents of the folders because they update Categories but not CategoriesSB.

- Reworked how apps are added to be based off bundle ID rather than folder names. Should solve issues like taptap2 and taptap3 not being able to be in a folder together.

WeatherIcon, a mod that allows you to have the current temperature and weather conditions on the Weather Icon and/or Statusbar, was update to version 2.2.23. The new version makes the mod compatible with the LockInfo application. You can get the WeatherIcon mod via the modmyi source.
