This application is $9.99 so I haven’t broken down and purchased it yet. But, as you can see in this video, the app is pretty sweet. One thing I noticed in the video is the app is sending your voice up to a server to transcribe it, like the Google App and Shazam do. The conversion doesn’t happen right on the iPhone. Either way, pretty sweet when you’re driving!

If have an iPhone 3GS then you are probably aware of the new feature…Voice Control. Voice Control is a feature that allows you the user to use spoken commands to make a phone call or control the iPod. That is fine and dandy and all but, what are the actual commands! It is hard to tell your iPhone to do something if you don’t know that what to tell it.

You can activate Voice Control by pressing and holding the Home Button on your iPhone. You can also activate it by pressing and holding the center button on your iPhone headphones. Once you hear the beep…you can start commanding. Below is a list of the available commands.

Things to Note:
    • Voice Commands uses your default language setting (Settings > General > International > Language Setting) however, you can change the language that the Voice Control uses for the spoken commands. Some languages even have different dialects and accents to choose from! You can change the Voice Control language by going to Settings > General > International > Voice Control and then selecting the language you would like to use.

    • You can turn off the ability to use Voice Control on the lock screen (for security reasons) by going to the Settings app, the General option and then the Passcode Lock option (Settings > General > Passcode Lock)….where you can then turn Voice Dial off.

    • When Voice dialing an (800) number you can say “eight hundred.”

    • Voice Control may not be available for all languages.

~ Info via iPhone User Manual.

We recently did a review of FaceMic, an application that allows you to record audio and then send it straight to your Facebook page (posting it on your “wall”). Well TweetMic is the same concept only via Twitter. It allows you to record audio and then send it as a tweet. Very cool.

TweetMic functions basically the same as FaceMic. When you first open it, you will need to go to the Setup option where you will enter your Twitter info. You can also change the default phrase under the Setup option.

To record audio, all you need to do is head over to the Record option and then select the red record button in the center of the screen. It begins recording right away so make sure you are ready! As you record to can see the time and the volume of your recording. To stop recording, just tap the red record button again. You can then listen to your recording using the green play button. If you would like to re-record the audio just tap the red record button again (this will delete your previous recording). You can enter a title for the recording in the text box at the top of the screen. Once you have the recording and the title how you would like it, just select the Publish to Twitter option and your recording it immediately sent as a tweet.

The tweet will contain a link that links to a clean, simple page that contains the flash audio recording. If you are in your iPhone or iPod Touch, which does not play flash, the audio is converted to a QuickTime audio file which can then be listened to on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

One difference between FaceMic and TweetMic is that TweetMic displays all your tweets (via the Tweets option) instead of just the audio tweets you have recorded using TweetMic. I think I would rather have a History option like FaceMic where I can listen to all previous audio recording instead of listing all my Tweets…I use a Twitter app for that.

Like FaceMic, I find this application to be well designed, easy to use and fun. The audio quality is good and the implementation on Twitter and the iPhone is sleek. Definitely worth the $0.99. It is fun to both send and receive audio tweets! You should try it!

TalkMe is a text to speech application. The application gives you the ability to listen to your text messages instead of read them. I will say that when I saw this app in Cydia I was intrigued and although it is a great concept, the app itself needs some work. When you open TalkMe, you get a list of all your text messages. I’m not exactly sure what order the text messages are in. The list has no organization and is almost impossible to navigate logically however, there are a few options that you can change in the Settings that do help a little.

If you select the Info-Setting button in the lower left corner, it will open the Settings page. Here you are able to change the Language, change the voice speed (the higher the voice speed the slower they talk, the lower the voice speed the faster they talk) and turn on/off show only unread text messages. One cool feature is that you can test the app right in the Settings page. Just type any text into the blank below the Test button and then select Test and it will read you the text you have entered….it’s funny! I have found that if you turn on the show only unread text messages option, you are able to at least make some sense out of the list.

When you are back on the list of text messages, you can select a text message and it will open it and being to read the message.

Overall, the application does a decent job of converting text to speech but organizationally…the app needs a little work!

The update eveyone’s been waiting for is finally here! Google has release the update to Google Mobile App that includes voice search. On the iPhone, it uses the built in proximity sensor to begin recording when you hold the iPhone up to you ear. It will beep when the recording begins and when you stop talking or pull the iPhone away from your ear it stops. It then sends the recording to Google’s servers where it does the processing. Then it sends back search results, some which will launch the phone or maps applications. You can also tap the magnifying glass to the left of the search bar to change your search from iPhone & Web to Maps, Images, News, Shopping or Wikipedia. I haven’t tested the voice search in the car where there’s background noise but inside where it’s quite it’s working great.

At the bottom center of the app there is an Apps button. It takes you to a list of Google’s services, most formatted to the iPhone that open in Safari. There’s a long list that includes: Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Talk, Reader (my favorite), GOOG-411, News, Notebook, Photos, orkut, Translate, Maps, YouTube & Earth. You can even edit their order by tapping the edit button in the top right corner and dragging them around.

There’s lots of settings, first, you can set your start screen to show that last used feature, that apps list, the search, or search with keyboard. You can also toggle what is searchable like your contacts. There is a safe search choice, a setting to turn off voice search, and a place to add your domain if you use Google for Domain Apps (to use multiple domains just use a comma to separate them). Finally, there is a setting to turn on the ability to rotate the app into landscape. There is a warning that says this will disable the motion sensor feature of voice search.

One thing I can’t seem to get it to do is use the voice search to search my contacts. You can only do that with the keyboard. Voice search just searches the web. It would be sweet if I could use it as a voice dialer. It would also be nice if results opened in a built in browser instead of launching full Safari. I think I would mostly use this app for searching for businesses when I’m in the car. Let us know if you’ve been using this app or how you plan to use it?

It is nice to see a few familiar apps being released for firmware 2.0. SpoofApp is an app that allows you to record calls, change your voice when making a call and change the display number when you make a call. There are a few change with the new version of the application. When you open SpoofApp, it will look basically the same. The Recordings option on the lower menu bar has a new icon and the Free Minutes button in the upper right corner has been changed to a Help option. When you open the Settings you will notice that they have changed slightly. Besides having a new look, there is also the option to turn on/off the Keypad Sounds.

The Buy Minutes options has also improved. The cost of the minutes has not changed (prices listed below). You are also still able to get five free minutes.

The app itself functions the same. When you make a call, you get the same options as in the previous version…the ablity to choose a voice and the ability to turn the recording on or off.

The Recording options looks much nicer in this version of SpoofApp. When you go into the Recording option, it looks the same but when you select a recording…the interface is much improved. The only new option is the ablity to delete the call and any recording of that call. You are still able to download all call recordings to your computer via spoofcard.com.

I always forget how much I like application until I test it again! It is just so easy to use and seriously funny!

Cost of Minutes:
$10.00 for 60 minutes
$20.00 for 120 minutes
$40.00 for 240 minutes
$80.00 for 480 minutes
Once you have recorded a conversation using SpoofAPP, you can go into the Recents option and select the recording. You will then get a screen with all the information for that call and the ability to Play the Recording. When Play Recording is selected, you will see a Download Recording to Computer option. This option will give you a pop-up saying that you will need to go to SpoofCard.com and enter your PIN number.
<script type="text/javascript"

Once you have entered your PIN number on the website, it will display all the calls that you have made using that PIN. You can then select the Listen option next to a call that has a recording. This will bring you to a page in which you can listen to the recording and download the recording to your computer. All you have to do is right click on the Download Recording to Computer option and save it to your computer. It will save the audio file as an MP3. It worked great for me and the audio quality is pretty good.

SpoofAPP is also running a June special that takes 10% off the price of minutes. All you have to do is enter the promo code: app10. SpoofAPP is available through the BigBoss source.

It will display the correct format of the HTML file when you import it. However, if you edit the HTML file in moleskine, you will lose the formatting. How you import a note in molekine has not change, just the way they are imported so that it allows for importing of HTML files. So, no visual change to the application. I personally have never had an HTML file in my notes (and am honestly not really sure how you would get an HTML file into your stock Notes.app) but, if this applies to you…I bet it is pretty cool! moleskine is available through the databinge source.
