They have some pretty convincing videos on the manufacturer’s website of how the case works and I’ve posted them below. They are drop proof to military specs of 2 meters or 6.6 feet, waterproof to 2 meters and snow & sand proof. We’ll try to get one for review once they are out. Right now they are on pre-order only for $69.95. They also make a case for the iPhone 3G/3GS and the iPad. This would make a great case if you have kids!

Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO – February 24, 2011 – LifeProof Cases, Inc. today announced that it is one of 40 never-before seen technology companies selected to present at the LAUNCH Conference, taking place in San Francisco on February 23 and 24, 2011.

To an audience of hundreds of potential investors and media, LifeProof introduced the first and only waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and snowproof case for Apple’s iPhone® 4 in a sleek design that provides full access to all device functions. The LifeProof cases are available for pre-order with shipment in April 2011 at an introductory price of $69.95.

“We designed LifeProof to meet the challenges of everyday life while maintaining the elegant look that Apple is known for,” said
Gary Rayner, LifeProof Cases founder and CEO. “LifeProof is kid-proof, swim-proof, beer-proof, bike-proof, klutz-proof, hikingproof and more. At the end of the day, the issue is not only about protection, but freedom – freedom to build relationships, gain knowledge, exercise, and juggle work; freedom for all people anywhere to go everywhere.”

Unlike bulky protective cases, LifeProof cases are sleek and ultra-slim yet designed to meet military specifications (MIL-SPEC), giving individuals complete freedom to use their iPhone in any wet, dirty, freezing or rough situation. Texting in the shower, videos in the pool, ‘FaceTime’ on the surfboard, LifeProof makes it possible to be anywhere with your mobile device.

LifeProof has several patent applications for 20 innovations and inventions, totaling more than 400 pages. The company spent 18 months and more than $1M to meet the stringent environmental challenges and achieve a simple, sleek design. It was an extraordinarily difficult
project that many of the industrial design firms initially contacted said could not be done. LifeProof went back to the drawing board five times to get it right in order to achieve its strict environmental and design goals.

“We knew LifeProof was a killer product that everyone in the LAUNCH community would not only get a kick out of–but that many would want to own!” said Jason Calacanis, founder of LAUNCH.

For LifeProof cases pre-ordering information, visit http://www.lifeproof.com.

So I got a great idea. Let me know if you hate it or love it (vote below). Every Friday night I will post some of the best/most viewed iPhone videos on YouTube of that week. If you find any throughout the week, send them to me at video@appleiphoneschool.com. I saw this one over at iClarified.com and cnet.com. Now hopefully this is legit, but I kinda think it its. This guy drops his iPhone into a pool and it keeps working. Of course it could be like a flip video in a waterproof case, or even an iPhone waterproof case. Anyone want to test it out?

It is a “coating produces a vacuum deposited film that is nonflammable, has low toxicity and has the ability to weatherproof electronic devices and other surfaces. It contains no volatile organic combustibles (VOCs). The clear, nearly non-detectable, uniform film is insoluble in solvents. When applied to clean, moisture free surfaces, such as plastic, copper, aluminum, metal, ceramic, steel, tin or glass, the coating is transparent with excellent weather proofing and anti-corrosion properties.”

It is placed all over the device, inside and out. It’s not available yet but pricing is expected to be between $50 to $75 per device. See their site at golden-shellback.com for more info. This case is truly water proof up to a depth of 3 feet. Not only is it waterproof but it’s dustproof, dirtproof, sandproof and dropproof. Here I’m testing the black version but there is also a yellow and black version similar to the Otterbox Defender Series. If you’re going for looks, this case isn’t for you. It is bulky, but for the type of environment this would be used in, looks probably don’t matter much.
I personally am a big fan of OtterBox Cases and to me, the Aquapac for iPhone case is more like a water-proof pouch then a case but, if you are looking for a easy way to keep your iPhone safe from water, dirt or sand…this might be the way to go! I could also see the armband version of the case being very useful!
