The recent video we posted showed a preview of the web app but claimed it wasn’t available yet however I was able to get it to work. I was using a laptop on a data card and my iPhone on EDGE and it only took a couple seconds for it to update both ways. Here are a couple screenshots from the iPhone.

I’ve had a bunch of people ask me lately how I got this full screen weather map on my iPhone so I thought I’d share it with you all. First, it’s a web app. Don’t be scared, it’s still really nice. Go to http://i.wund.com from your iPhone and pic the city you want the radar to start on. You can either search for it or Safari should ask if the app can use your current location. Once you do that, scroll down to the radar option and click on “View Full Screen WunderMap” located just under the radar image. Once this screen is open, tap the plus sign at the botton of the webpage. Tap “Add to Home Screen” and rename it to “Radar” or something short.

The kewl think about this map is that you can pinch and zoom just like Google Maps. You can zoom way out to see the whole country or way in down to county and city levels. You can also tap “Options” in the top right corner of the site to turn on animation and severe weather overlays and change to different Satellite views.
google_ad_slot = "2797682692";
google_ad_width = 234;
google_ad_height = 60;
//-->

Another thing you might want to do is make a different web clip with a different city and name them by each city. To do this you have to start over at the i.wund.com and enter the new city. You can’t just zoom to the location and add to homescreen.

This is a step in the right direction and will be great for those trying to track spending/budgets, travel/mileage, etc. It’s pretty easy and works well. Features include allowing you to add new rows, edit existing cells, sort by columns, and filter by terms. It would be better if it was a real app but this will do for now.

The Maps option gives you 3 map options and 4 weather overlays giving you a total of 12 different looks. Kinda like Google Maps, you get Road, Hybrid and Aerial. The weather overlay options are Radar, Clouds, Clouds/Radar and Loop. The loop gives you 5 frames.

Forecast option displays a 10 day forecast with a weather icon, high low temp and precipitation percentage for each day. You can tap on the column for more details of that day.

Another great feature is warnings scroll across in a red ticker. Tapping the details tab on the ticker gives you the full text description of the warning. Finally there is a tab in the bottom right corner titled “more weather” which takes you to a basic mobile page with more links. Looks like a page that would work on any mobile device. This page has links to video forecasts, pollen, almanac, ski reports, etc. Again, this all looks designed for any mobile device but still looks great on the iPhone.

A final note is that this website also looks great when the iPhone is rotated horizontally.

The update to Raptor 1.2 adds a new feature that I think makes the application much more usable! When you are in a browser and you double-tap to bring up the menu, the Exit option has been replaced by a Home option. The Home option brings you back to the application and the list of websites. This was a feature I was hoping they would add. There have not been any websites added to the main list of websites however, there is now a Request App option. The only catch is that you have to have the full version of the app in order to request an application. You can get the full version of the app by making a donation. I’m still waiting for a few more features with this one…ability to easily add/remove websites from the list and the ability to rearrange the list. Though, the Home option already makes this application more useful for me.
