For just $2.99 you can turn your mac into an AirPlay device. Just install a program called AirServer onto your Mac and then it will show up on your iPhone or iPad as an option to stream video, pictures and audio to. If you were looking to buy an Apple TV just for this feature, you can now do it with existing equipment. Check out the video below.

Another options is an app called Banana TV. This device claims to do the same thing and it also has a video. It’s $7.99. Check it out:

  1. I’ve been using this app quite a bit. It’s crazy how many updates there are. I only use it for audio myself (streaming music from TuneIn Pro on my iPhone), so most of the updates don’t apply to me. (Seems like they’re mostly video related.)

I love AirServer. I shoot a lot of little videos of my twins and they want to see it now, now, now. Instead of them crowding around the iPhone, I have been using AirServer on my iMac.

  3. Does anyone know of a similar app that will work with Windows 7 as the server side app?
