Poof Poof is an app that allows you to hide and unhide icons on your SpringBoard. This app is aimed mainly towards version 1.1.3 users but, can be used on any version of the iPhone. Poof opens to an alphabetical list of all the 3rd party apps you have installed. To hide an app just tap on the red circle to the left of it which will bring up a a delete button…tap on it. This will not delete the app off your iPhone it will just hide it. Once you have done this to all the apps you would like hidden, you can hit your Home button and the changes are automatically saved. If you would like to see a list of the apps you have hidden or you would like to unhide an app just tap the Hidden button in the upper left corner. This will then bring you to an alphabetical list of all the apps you have hidden…to unhide an application just tap on it. You can go back to the main list by tapping Visible in the upper left corner. If you would like more information about the app…tap the Help button on the upper right corner. Note: If you hide an app with Poof, you can not unhide it with Customize. Poof is available in the Installer.app through the BigBoss source.

Note:
This app does not work with the Dock app…if you hide an app and then go into Dock, it will show up but will not open. So, do not hide the actual app (Poof) itself.

    This app would be awesome in combination with Dock.app. I had been using Customize to hide lots of the apps I didn’t use very often, then when ever I did use them, I could get at them quick with Dock.app

    @alex_dlc…yes, it is a very simple app!

    Hey, I had a big problem with this app. I downloaded it and installed it. I already had the Dock app. Anyways, I figured I could hide everything but my games including installer and the poof app itself and be able to open them from the dock app. Turns out the apps don’t open with the dock either if they are hidden. Now installer and the poof app can’t be opened from my phone. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? I have WinSCP but when I look in my apps Poof is hidden. :(

    @Choob…ok, what you will need to do is OpenSSH in and delete the code that Poof is using to hide the apps. However, I don’t know what that code is…I am going to message BigBoss…I will let you know when I get a message back from him..

    @Choob…I was able to see hidden apps with on my Dock…they are not in alphabetical order though…they do not have the title of the app underneath them.

    I installed this app on my jailbroken (1.1.2) Touch and it didnt hide anything. Whats the deal?

  8. Choob on January 30th, 2008 10:24 am:

    Hey Brooke. Yes the hidden apps are still showing up in the dock on my phone yet the problem is they won’t open. I hid most of my apps thinking id be able to open the hidden apps from the dock apps and didn’t check to see if it would work before I hid many of them.

    @Choob…ok, got ya. Well, I have a message out to the developer…I will let you know as soon as I hear back from him!

    [Reply]

  10. Brooke on January 30th, 2008 10:53 am:

    @Ortizlgnd…what version of the app did you install? A new version came out this morning, version 1.00,…that only allows the app to work on 1.1.3.

  11. Brooke on January 31st, 2008 12:34 am:

    @Choob…ok, I have heard back from the Developer and you need to do this -”uninstall poof then reinstall poof and it will be fixed. Then load poof and unhide itself. If you exit poof before unhiding itself you will have to start over because poof will rehide anything unhidden by updates when you load it.”

    So, you will need to SSH in and drag the Poof.app out of the Applications folder onto your desktop (then delete it off your iPhone). Then restart your iPhone. Then SSH back in and drag the Poof.aap from your Desktop back into your root/Applications folder on your iPhone. Make sure you set the permissions to 0755 on all the files inside the Poof.app after you have drug it back onto your iPhone. Also, make sure the first time you launch Poof after you reinstall it that you unhide Poof because if you close it without unhiding it…you will have to uninstall and reinstall it again!

    Ok AJ…did you have BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH installed before you did this? If not, I’m afraid you are going to have to restore your iPhone. Do you know how to do that? Is it unlocked to a different carrier or are you though AT&T?

    [Reply]

  15. AJ on February 1st, 2008 3:12 pm:

    Hello Brooke,

    It has 1.1.3 version, I bought it OTB 1.1.2 and since i have ATT account so didn’t bother for any sim. Just did bypass activation and then upgraded to 1.1.3.
    I do have SSH and I guess BSD subsystem installed.

  17. Brooke on February 1st, 2008 9:31 pm:

    @AJ…I can! This is what the Developer has said to do when you have this problem -

    “edit the /Applications/Installer.app/Info.plist and remove these 4 lines and save the file (I had replaced < with
    { so the code will show up. So, everywhere you see { think < ):
    {key}SBAppTags{/key}
    {array}
    {string}hidden{/string}
    {/array}{/code}
    Then restart springboard (or reboot the phone) and it’ll be unhidden.” But, make sure the first time you launch Poof after you edit the plist that you unhide Poof because if you close it without unhiding it…you will have to do this process again.

  19. Jacob on February 7th, 2008 4:10 pm:

    By and stroke of luck did you install Dock.app? My Guess is no. And if you didn’t install SSH, your best bet will probably be to re-jailbreak.

    Hey everyone, for those of you that hid the “poof” icon like I did, the easiest way to get it back, and then the others you’ve hidden, is to go onto Cydia, and install “BossPrefs”. You will find it under the “poof” info screen as a “better alternative”. easy. 1 minute fix.
