TomTom Creates Car Kit Giving First Gen iPhone and iPod Touch GPS Capability

##ICON_NAME## Earlier this week, TomTom updated their app allowing the TomTom applications to be installed on the first gen iPhone and the first and second gen iPod touches. Previously, the app could only be installed on the iPhone 3G and 3GS. With the update to the app comes a new product… a TomTom Car Kit for the iPod touch.

The iPod touch Car Kit is priced at $99.95 ($20 less than the iPhone Car Kit). The Kit is currently not available and based on the iPhone Car Kit who knows when they will have it ready! Just kidding! They say it is coming soon and it can already be seen on TomTom’s website.

TwitLock Cydget – Tweet from your Lock Screen

TwitLock TwitLock is a Cydget that allows you to tweet from your lock screen. Once installed, you can activate it via the stock Settings application under the Cydget.

After you have activated the Cydget, you will need to go to your lock screen. The first time you view TwitLock on your lock screen you are prompted to sign into your twitter account. After you have successfully signed in you are able to post a tweet right from your lock screen.

Jobs Personally Responds to Company’s Plea Against App Name Change

##ICON_NAME## This is an interesting little story. You may have already seen this but, if not, it is an interesting read. It seems that The Little App Factory, a Mac shareware company, received a letter from Baker & McKenzie, the lawfirm that represents Apple.

In the letter the company is told that they must change the name of one of there most popular applications iPodRip and also remove the iPod image from another of their application’s logo.

iRip (formally iPodRip) is an application that allows the user to copy and transfer your songs from iPod™ & iPhone™ to your computer. iRip has been available since 2003 and has had over 5 million downloads.

The Co-owner of The Little App Factory decided to send Mr. Jobs an email addressing the request. Below is that email as well as the response.

eBay App Update – Includes New Features

The update add a few new features including Best Offer support with push notification, live countdown timers and the ability to share items via twitter, facebook and email. American Heart Association Launches Hands-Only CPR App

Hands-Only CPR The American Heart Association and Ad Council have launched an iPhone application in promotion of the Hands-Only CPR campaign. The Hands-Only CPR campaign “encourages bystanders to use Hands-Only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) when an adult collapses and is unresponsive.”

As part of the campaign they have created a free iPhone and iPod touch application that provides clear instructions on how to perform Hands-Only CPR. The application contains two instructions on how to respond when an adult has collapsed and is unresponsive.

1) Call 911.
2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.

LUMA – Challenging Puzzle Game by Walt Disney

LUMA LUMA, by Walt Disney, is a unique puzzle game. The game has a simple objective, connect the lighted paths by linking the nodes. As easy as that sounds, the game provides a challenging game play.

The controls are nicely designed, you are able to rotate the lighted nodes using a control bar on the left side of the screen. As you rotate a node the lines inside the node will connect to the lines in the next node causing it to light up. You continue to connect the nodes until you have reached the end.

LUMA contains two game modes; Adventure and Survival. The Survival mode is locked until you have completed all the levels in Adventure mode. You are also able to view any acheivements you have unlocked.

WikiSearch Cydget – Search Wikipedia from your Lock Screen

##ICON_NAME## WikiSearch is a Cydget that allows the ability to search Wikipedia right from your lock screen.

Once installed, you can go into the stock Settings application under Cydget and enable WikiSearch. You will then be able to search Wikipedia directly from your lock screen. To search, just tap on the search bar and type in your search term(s). It will display the mobile version of Wikipedia on your lock screen. You are able to scroll through the page, click on links, view images… etc. You are not able to zoom in on the page but other than that, it has most of the functionality you would normally have.

In the previous version of the application, the SBSetting toggle did not work. Well, it seems that the update has fixed this problem. You are now able to toggle SpringLocker on/off via SBSettings. iCountry iCountry is a simple application that allows you to quickly view the basic info for all European Countries.

Once you navigate your way through the alphabetically list of the European countries and find the one you are looking for, you are able to view; the Capital, Official Language, Anthem, Area, Currency, Calling Code, a map of the country, the national flag of the country and the coat of arms for the country. You are also provided with a direct link to that country’s info on Wikipedia so you are able to find out more about the specific country.

Acropolis Luz – WinterBoard Theme

##ICON_NAME## acropolisluz3 Acropolis Luz is a WinterBoard theme that contains quite a few mods. Like most themes, it contains icons (303 of them), a dock, status bar, wallpaper, lock screen battery, slider, badges.. etc. However, it also contains a ton of other mods such as Message app mod, Phone app mod, Safari app mod, UI mod, pop-up mod, Cydia app mod… and much more. If you are photoshop savvy and like to create your own icons, the theme does contains a .psd file which is located in the Library/Theme/Acropolis Luz [Krs]/PSD folder.

The theme also contains a matching SBSetting theme. You can get both Acropolis Luz and corresponding SBSetting theme via the MacCiti source.

Cydgets – Time, Weather, Flashlight… [Updated]

##ICON_NAME## Last week I wrote about Cydget, a “framework for managing lock screen plugins.” Over the week-end there were a few Cydgets (like Widgets for Cydget) released that are pretty decent.

The first is HTC Hero Cydget. This Cydget includes the current Time, Temperature and Weather Conditions. Once you have installed the Cydget, you will need to go into the stock Settings application under Cydget and activate it. I did find that this particular Cydget does not display immediately on the lock screen, there is a slight delay. (strike)Though, it does know your current time and weather info without having to edit a .plist which is nice. (/strike) Read more

Element – Lock Screen Mod Coming Soon

element Element is a lock screen mod that began as a concept and has turned into the real thing. Since it began as a concept back in September, there hasn’t been much to tell, but it seems that that one and only Jay Freeman (better known as saurik) is helping to make this thing happen. So, it’s time to get the information rolling. According to a recent tweet (see below), a beta of the lock screen mod will hit Cydia next week.

“Our iPhone lockscreen will be called Element. Fingers are crossed for a beta next week.” – via @gteehan

I don’t know about you guys but, I would love to have the perfect lock screen mod! I’m currently using LockInfo and like it. I can’t wait to check out Element… it looks like it is going to be pretty sweet.
