Lockdown – Password Protect Your Applications

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free

Lockdown Lockdown, is an application that allows you to password protect other applications (stock, App Store and jailbroke) on your iPhone or iPod Touch. I haven’t done a review of this Lockdown since it was first released. However, I received an email saying that it has been updated and is now working with the 3.0 firmware (which it is).

The UI of the app has changed a little since my first review of the app but, other than that…it is basically the same. You are able to password protect stock, App Store and jailbroke apps that are on your device. A few of the new features I noticed is a Locked Apps option which allows you to quickly view all the apps that are locked, instead of having to scroll through the list of them to find which ones are locked. Available In: App Store       Price: $1.99

Encrypto Encrypto is an application that allows you to hide images that are in your Camera Roll. When you open Encrypto, you will need to choose a passkey. You will want to remember your passkey because the next time you open the app, you will have to enter it.

Once in the application, you have three options on the lower menu bar; the main page, the help page and the import page. On the main page you will see all the photos from your Camera Roll. It automatically pulls in all your photos however, it will not pull in any screenshots that are in your Camera Roll. I personally like that it only pulls in photos and not screenshots. Each photo has a image of a lock on it. If you tap on the lock, it will Encrypt the photo. Read more

AiS It’s time for anther QuickTip! Sometimes, I feel weird even writing about these because they are so familiar to me and I figure everybody already knows them! But, this is acutally a tip that Doug showed a man one time while we were waiting to get into a restaurant. So, I know some of you may not know about it!

QuickTip – There is a way to quickly put your iPhone or iPod Touch into “lock” mode without waiting for it to auto-lock on it’s own. To do so, just quickly press the power button (that is the button on the top of your device) one time. Do not hold the power button down (this would turn your device off) instead just give it a quick tap and voilà your iPhone or iPod Touch will lock. Read more

mAdvLock – Password Protect Applications and Sim Card…Encrypt Files

Available In: Cydia       Price: Free & $14.99

mAdvLock mAdvLock is an application that allows you to password protect App Store, Stock and Jailbroken application as well as your Sim Card. It also allows you to encrypt files on your iPhone or iPod Touch allowing them to only be viewed within the application.

Ok, applications like these always make me a little nervous. Honestly, it is for these type of apps that I ALWAYS whip out one of the test iPhones instead of using my personal iPhone! :) So, as usual, one of our test iPhone’s was the guinea pig for this one and after some testing, I was pleasantly surprised with this application.

When you first install mAdvLock, it will respring your SpringBoard. Once that is finished, and you open the application, you will notice that it informs you that the stock password is 123 and that you need to reboot your device. So, as the app says….reboot your device! Once you have rebooted, go ahead and reopen the app (the password is 123). Now, you will see a lower menu bar with the options; App Lock, Finder, Coffer, Settings and Help. The first thing you will want to do is go into the Settings. Here you can change your password and create a little hint for if you forget your password (though, I would highly suggest not forgetting your password for this app!!). In the Settings, you can also turn on the SIM Card password protects. Read more

The events are categorized by date and also display the time and title of the event. The app has a decent design and showed up nicely on all the wallpapers that I tested. Read more

AiS Ok, for the longest time I have not been able to figure out how to easily take a screenshot of my lock screen on my iPhone.
