QuickTip – Quickly Lock your iPhone or iPod Touch

It’s time for anther QuickTip! Sometimes, I feel weird even writing about these because they are so familiar to me and I figure everybody already knows them! But, this is actually a tip that Doug showed a man one time while we were waiting to get into a restaurant. So, I know some of you may not know about it!

QuickTip – There is a way to quickly put your iPhone or iPod Touch into “lock” mode without waiting for it to auto-lock on it’s own. To do so, just quickly press the power button (that is the button on the top of your device) one time. Do not hold the power button down (this would turn your device off) instead just give it a quick tap and voilĂ  your iPhone or iPod Touch will lock. [Read more…]

QuickTip – Clear History in Safari

AiS Sticking to my Safari theme, here is this weeks QuickTip! If you have a QuickTip you would like to submit you can email it to QuickTip@appleiphoneschool.com.

QuickTip – When using Safari, it keeps track of your browsing History (similar to a Mac or PC). This is a nice feature for those times when you would like to go back to a website you were at a few days ago but cannot remember the site’s url. To see your Safari history, while in Safari, select the icon on the lower menu bar that looks like a book. You will then see an option titled History. When selected, it will display your browsing history for the current day as well as the last five days. To view one of the website’s in you history, just tap on it.

While in your history, you will also notice that there is a Clear option on the lower menu bar. You can choose to clear all your history or you can tap on a certain date and then clear the history just for that day. This is a quick and easy way to erase your Safari history. See screenshots below.

CheckPlease 1.0

Available In: App Store       Price: Free

CheckPlease is the only free tip calculator/bill splitting application in the App Store (as of right now). This type of application is one that I like to have available on my iPhone. It is so much easier to type in a few numbers and have it spit out the totals than it is to sit around trying to guesstimate what everyone’s share of the bill is! When you open CheckPlease, you can enter the Check Total and the Tax Amount (in dollars). To enter a number just tap in the box in which you would like to enter the number and a keyboard will pop-up. When you are done typing in the amount, select Done in the lower right corner. It will automatically generate your Subtotal.

To figure out the tip amount, slide the star until it is where you would like it on the tip% bar. The tip percentage options range from 0% to 30%. Once you have the tip% where you would like it, [Read more…]

Tipper 1.2

Tipper The update to Tipper changes the application so that all the fields are customizable. You can now enter any number into the Sub-Total, Tax %, Tip % and # of People fields, instead of having to choose from a range of numbers. There is also a new Settings options. In the Settings, you can set a default Tax and Top percentage. You also have the ability to email the developer. I think if you enter a number into the default percentage fields in the Settings menu, they are supposed to default to those numbers every time you open the application. However, [Read more…]

Tipper 1.1

Tipper Tipper 1.1 makes one small but important change to the application…a change I was hoping to see in the update to this application! You can now enter a number into the Tax percentage field instead of only having the option to chose from whole numbers (6, 7, 8…). This is great because in the State I grew up in, I remember the tax was 7.5%. I tested the application using a percentage that was not a whole number and it worked great. Everything was calculated correctly. I know this is an application that I will use a ton… [Read more…]

Tipper 1.0

Tipper Tipper is an application that allows you to quickly calculate a tip, the tax, the total bill and split a bill among mulitple parties. The application opens to the main screen where you can enter the sub-total of the bill, the tax percentage, the tip percentage and the number of people you would like the bill split between. Once you have entered all the infromation, you can select Calculate Totals. This will give you a pop-up with the exact tax amount, tip amount, total bill amount and the amount each party would need to pay. The only issue I have with this application is that [Read more…]
