CallMe – Add a One Touch Dial or Text Icon for Contacts to Home Screen

This app reminds me of the app called SpringDial where you could add an icon for any contact to your home screen to quickly dial them. That app is no longer in Cydia so here’s another option and it has even more features.

Once CallMe is installed, just open the app and pick a contact you want to reach straight from your home screen by tapping the plus sign in the top right. Once you select who you want to contact, pick the number you want to reach them at. Next pick if you want to call them or text them and pick what text you want to show under the icon. Close the app and your iPhone will respring. You’re all set! [Read more…]

FaceTime Fails After 1 Minute Using 3G Unrestrictor [Fixed]

I’ve had a few people who only want to jailbreak their iPhone just so they could use FaceTime anywhere. Right now it only works on WiFi but with 3G Unrestrictor it will run on 3G and even EDGE. Every once in a while I would have problems keeping the call connected. It seemed, after about a minute, that the call would freeze and then disconnect randomly. It also seemed like it was happening with anyone and anywhere. [Read more…]

3G Unrestrictor – Enable Wifi Features Over 3G & EDGE (FaceTime on 3G!) (video)

3G Unrestrictor has been updated to work with iPhone 4 and firmware 4.x. You know what this means! FaceTime calls anywhere! Now we’ve tested this out, and really it works better on 3G than it does on EDGE but it does work. Once installed you can just open the app and select apps you’d like to fake out. This makes them think your phone is on Wifi instead of 3G or EDGE. Other apps that this can help with instead of FaceTime are the App Store, which won’t let you download apps over 20MB. This goes for videos in iTunes too. Although Skype recently announced the use of Skype over 3G, you can avoid additional costs if they ever do decide to charge for it. Another place this will help is when videos download over 3G they are compressed more which makes them more blurry. With 3G Unrestrictor, YouTube thinks it’s on Wifi and will download the full resolution version. [Read more…]

QuickTip – FaceTime’s Selfview is Draggable/Movable

I was on a FaceTime call with a friend tonight, who just got his iPhone 4, and he told me I could drag the video of myself around on the screen. That’s awesome! All you do is touch it and drag it to either of the four corners. Let us know of any other tips in Facetime! [Read more…]

QuickTip – Horizontal or Vertical FaceTime

When making a call on FaceTime it’s very natural to hold the phone in a vertical position since that’s how it’s held during a normal phone call. Did you know that you can rotate your iPhone to the horizontal position too? It works best if both callers do this. Check out the screenshots to see the difference. [Read more…]

QuickTip – Silence and Send Calls to Voicemail using Power Button

It’s time for anther QuickTip! My last QuickTip was about how to lock your iPhone using the Power Button so, I thought I would stick with the “Power Button” theme.

QuickTip – When receiving an incoming call, you can quickly press the power button (that is the button on the top of your device) once to mute the ringing. Or, when receiving an incoming call, you can quickly press the power button twice and send the call straight to voicemail! [Read more…]

How do I change the dialer on my iPhone?

Below are instruction on how to manually change the dialer on your iPhone. The “dialer” is the keypad used to dial a phone number when in your Phone.

If you are on firmware 2.x – When you jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch, the Cydia application will be added to your SpringBoard with the rest of your applications. You will want to go into Cydia and search for the OpenSSH application. If it is not already installed, you will need to install it.

If you are on firmware 1.1.4 or below – you will need to use the installer.app and install both BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH on your iPhone (in that order).

Below are the rest of the instructions which are the same for all current firmware:
If you are on a PC…you will then need to install WinSCP on your computer. Macs come with OpenSSH but if you’d like some alternatives check here. To connect to WinSCP you will need to go into your Settings application on your iPhone and then into the Wi-fi option, click on the little arrow next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to and get the ip address. Now open WinSCP on your computer….the Host Name is your ip address (with the periods) the user name is root and the password is alpine. Don’t worry about the Private key file, you don’t need to put anything there. Hit login.

Once WinSCP opens, the dialer goes into /Applications/MobilePhone.app. Once you are in that folder you will see all of the stock files for your MobilePhone application this is where you are going to drag your new files to. [Read more…]
