Ok, so I’ve found more sweet products on kickstarter.com for the iPhone and the next one I want to cover is a clip on lens called olloclip. It’s a great two in one lens that slides onto your iPhone and gives you fisheye, wide-angle & macro lenses. All you have to do is flip it around to switch between the lenses. Then just unscrew the wide angle lens to use the macro feature for 10x. The fisheye has about 180 Degree field-of-view while the wide-angle has double the normal view. If you support this project for $45 you can get your own. Or, once they are released they will be about $60 each. Check out the video and pics below. [Read more...]
FBphotoSave is a hack that allows you save photos from the Facebook application to your Camera Roll. Normally, the stock photo saving method that allows you to tap and hold on an image to save it to your device does not work in the Facebook application however FBphotoSave enables this feature.
It’s a super simple little hack. Once installed, you can use the hack by tapping and holding on any photo in the Facebook application. When you release your hold, you will get a pop-up with the options to Cancel the save or Confirm the save. If you select Confirm it will display a little HUD saying that the photo has been saved. You can then go into your Camera Roll and view the saved image.
I’ve been wanting a hack like this for a while. I’ve been in stores when I wish I could take video secretly. Now I can! The hack is called Stealth Cam and once installed its super easy. Just open your camera app, choose whether you want to take a picture or video, then lock your iPhone. Now just hit a volume button and it will take a pic or start the recording depending on which setting you’re on. If taking a video you can stop it with the volume button too. That’s it! Once you hit unlock you’ll be right back at the camera app. Now all I need is a hack that lets the camera record or stream in the background! [Read more...]
I talked about this app in episode 20 of i101 but the recent update was significant enough to write about it again. If you don’t remember, this app does what Photo Booth for the Mac does. It uses the front facing camera and adds silly effects. The update now allows you to use the rear camera too. It also added 4 new effects including AsciiArt (drawing the image with just letters, numbers and other ASCII characters), ModernArt, 100Me and NightVision. Check out the screenshots below for examples. There are a lot more features that were added so here’s the complete list: [Read more...]

This app allows you to take pictures or video with the volume buttons instead of trying to hit the little button on the screen. It should help you to keep the camera more still and keep from blurry photos. This only works when the camera app is open or other apps using the camera feature. The news here is that it had been updated to work with 4.0 firmware so now you can use it to take HD 720p video! This is one of my top jailbreak apps that I just gotta have. [Read more...]
I’ve really gotten into iPhone photography lately. Really, I’ve always loved the quality of the iPhone camera but with the new touch to focus, autofocus and video features I’ve really started using my iPhone over other cameras due to accessibility. With my iTunes gift card for Christmas I bought a lot of apps that are for photography or videography. I’ll be sharing my reviews soon but I wanted to share a website with you that I like to check in on about photography and the iPhone. [Read more...]

Snappy is a camera application that allows you to launch the Camera without exiting the application you are currently in.
Once you have installed Snappy, it can be launched by tapping and holding the status bar. This will drop the Camera down allowing the ability to quickly take a photo. And by quickly I mean really fast… like wow! The app description says that it is up to six times faster than the native Camera application and I believe it.

1Shoot is a Camera application that gives you three shot options; Steady, Touch and Timer.

If you have been around the jailbreak scene for a while now, you have probably heard about Snapture, a camera application. It seems that the app has been revamped and is now available in the App Store. This used to be one of my favorite jailbroke applications… I’m glad to see that it has made it’s way to the App Store.

I’m sure many of you have already seen the interview that the New York Times did with Steve Jobs however, for those of you who may have missed it… they did ask some relevant questions. The two questions that I was glad to see were; Why is didn’t they add a camera to the iPod touch and Why does the iPod nano take video but not still pictures. Below are his answers. [Read more...]
Gizmodo recently posted an interesting article saying that USAA, a privately held bank/insurance company, is allowing iPhone customers to deposit checks into their account via an App Store application. The USAA application is scheduled to have it’s first update this week. The update will add a new Check Deposit feature. The feature will allow customers to take a picture of both the front and the back of the check (with the iPhone’s built-in camera) and have the check automatically deposited into their bank account. Last night I was taking some pictures and video and went back to review them and there weren’t in my camera roll. I didn’t think much of it because my iPhone is jailbroken and things like that happen when you test as many apps as we do. I decided to respring my springboard and try again. That didn’t work so I rebooted. Still didn’t work. Now I’m getting worried. I really don’t want to restore my iPhone and start all over again. I did notice that the pictures I was taking were showing up in the little thumbnail at the bottom left of the camera app each time I took one. I then thought my iPhone might be full so, I plugged into iTunes to see. Nope, I had plenty of room. Ah ha! I thought I figured it out. Most cameras name pictures starting with img_0001 and go to img_9999 and start over. I thought it had done that and the pics were starting over at the top of my camera roll… nope.
I then decided to plug in my iPhone and see if the pics and vids were there. They were! And guess what I found? The filenames of the pics not showing up are img_10001 through img_10005. This means there is a major bug in Apple’s firmware. I can’t see the photos in any other apps either. Now I can’t upload them to flickr, facebook, twitter, youtube, etc. The worst part of all? I have no idea how to fix it. The only way I can think of is to restore my iPhone. If you have an idea, I’d love to try it. I’m quite annoyed that it doesn’t work anymore.
Update: I have found a fix:
1. Sync your iPhone to backup and copy all photos off your camera roll using your computer.
3. Now just take a picture and you’ll see it shows up in the camera roll. I noticed that taking a screenshot still used the old numbering scheme. I went back and deleted everything again and rebooted my iPhone and then it works fine.
