Instagram has released a new app called Hyperlapse that is a very customizable timelapse video app. Funny how it’s put out by Instagram even though they are owned by Facebook. And it’s titled “Hyperlapse from Instagram” not to be confused with the app title just “Hyperlapse” which is a different timelapse app sorta kinda… Anyway, this app is not just a timelapse app. If so, it would become pointless once iOS 8 comes out because it is part of the Camera app update. This app claims some very nice features like: in house stabilization, speed up your hyperlapse to be up to 12 times the speed and quick recording with no account needed. [Read more…]

FBphotoSave – Save Photos from Facebook Application to Camera Roll
FBphotoSave is a hack that allows you save photos from the Facebook application to your Camera Roll. Normally, the stock photo saving method that allows you to tap and hold on an image to save it to your device does not work in the Facebook application however FBphotoSave enables this feature.
It’s a super simple little hack. Once installed, you can use the hack by tapping and holding on any photo in the Facebook application. When you release your hold, you will get a pop-up with the options to Cancel the save or Confirm the save. If you select Confirm it will display a little HUD saying that the photo has been saved. You can then go into your Camera Roll and view the saved image.

Today, the Facebook iPhone application received an update. The update includes the addition of Groups and Deals as well as improvements to the Places feature (see full change log below). The new Groups feature has replaced the Requests option on the main page. I also noticed that the News Feed now displays three options at the top of the page; Photo, Status and Check In… allowing you to quickly do one of those three things without having to leave your News Feed.

Facebook has put out another update with some fixes to a couple things that have really been annoying me. One is video playback! You can now watch videos posted on Facebook. Another is links to photo albums now work. Before it would just give an error. Also, you can upload .png files. This helps us upload screenshots from our iPhones. Before you would just get a black screen instead of the picture. Here’s the full list of updates: [Read more…]

Facebook App Developer Quits iPhone App
Joe Hewitt, the developer of the iPhone facebook application, has tweeted for the first time in about a month and the tweet is shocking… he has decided to quit developing the app due to Apple’s approval process.
“Time for me to try something new. I’ve handed the Facebook iPhone app off to another engineer, and I’m onto a new project.”
TechCrunch was able to get a little more info from Hewitt and this is what he had to say…
My decision to stop iPhone development has had everything to do with Apple’s policies. I respect their right to manage their platform however they want, however I am philosophically opposed to the existence of their review process. I am very concerned that they are setting a horrible precedent for other software platforms, and soon gatekeepers will start infesting the lives of every software developer.
The web is still unrestricted and free, and so I am returning to my roots as a web developer. In the long term, I would like to be able to say that I helped to make the web the best mobile platform available, rather than being part of the transition to a world where every developer must go through a middleman to get their software in the hands of users.”

Facebook iPhone App Updates “Coming Soon”
Available In: App Store | Price: Free |
Joe Hewitt, the developer of the facebook App Store application, recently tweeted that the app will soon be receiving two updates. The update to version 3.03 will be bug fixes and it will be followed by version 3.1 which is said to include push notification (along with a few other nice new features).
The thing I find strange is the lack of info about version 3.1. In the past we have seen pictures, video, tweets… etc about updates. Not this time. I guess we will just have until it;s released to see all the cool new features.

Facebook has been update to version 3.01… not to be confused with the upcoming 3.1 update. Version 3.01 is just some bug fixes, no new features this time around. The bug fixes include bugs with birthdays, timestamps, friend list crashing… etc. If you are having problem with your notifications, you will have to hold out a little longer, that is a server issues not a bug in the application itself. Hewitt says it will be fixed in the next few days. [Read more…]
