New York Times Interviews Steve Jobs – Answers why iPod touch did not receive a camera.

##ICON_NAME## I’m sure many of you have already seen the interview that the New York Times did with Steve Jobs however, for those of you who may have missed it… they did ask some relevant questions. The two questions that I was glad to see were; Why is didn’t they add a camera to the iPod touch and Why does the iPod nano take video but not still pictures. Below are his answers.

Q. You put a camcorder on the iPod Nano. Why not on the iPod Touch?
A. Originally, we weren’t exactly sure how to market the Touch. Was it an iPhone without the phone? Was it a pocket computer? What happened was, what customers told us was, they started to see it as a game machine. Because a lot of the games were free on the store. Customers started to tell us, “You don’t know what you’ve got here — it’s a great game machine, with the multitouch screen, the accelerometer, and so on.”

Q. How come the Nano can now record video, but can’t take stills?
A. The sensors for doing video are fairly thin. The sensors for doing a still camera, at much higher pixel resolution — and we’d really like to have autofocus — they are just way too thick to ever fit inside the Nano.

  1. Ugh. These are non-answers. A camera in an iPod Touch would be a great addition for gaming. Just look at apps like Appy News or FaceFigher – camera is part of the fun. And, if you can get a still cam in the thin iPhone, you can get it in the nano. OR THE TOUCH!

    :)

  2. Wow. They really think all their customers are idiots. Wow.

  3. I think this is good. I dont want the ipod touch to be too much like an iphone, concidering how much im paying for my iphone 3gs

  4. i have 3g but not having a decent camera on touch is nonsense only because Apple wants to support nano’s and iPhone’s market .
    very disappointing.

  5. Gotta love Apple’s asininess, LOL. I have an iPhone 3GS so it makes me no difference. But I think the Touch should have a camera as well.

  6. Well, I think (just thinking) that part of the reason they won’t put a camera in the iPod Touch is because they want people to buy an iphone (higher priced) for the camera and iPod touch features. If they put a camera in an iPod Touch, iPhone sales might go down and they could loose money because more people would be buying an iPod Touch. Just a theory though :D

  7. Steve Jobs – full of sh!t. Especially now that he has a new liver.
