Jailbreak 3.0 on iPhone 3G, 1st Gen iPhone & 1st Gen iPod Touch – pwnagetool for Mac
The Dev Team has released the jailbreak for 3.0 firmware for the iPhone 3G, 1st Gen iPhone and 1st Gen iPod Touch. That means the iPhone 3GS and the 2nd Gen iPod Touch on firmware 3.0 is not jailbreakable at this time. You can download PwnageTool for Mac only at this time. QuickPwn for Mac and PC will be out later. Make sure if you’re unlocked on iPhone 3G to wait until Ultrasn0w is released. Here’s the notes from the Dev Team Website:
1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.
2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).
3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.0 capable version of PwnageTool.
6. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
7. PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.

In iTunes hold option/alt and then click restore. Navigate to where the custom firmware in PwnageTool was created and restore from that.

The reason is that Pwnage 3 doesn’t work under PPC, it’s made for Intel only. At least at the moment. I hope they’ll fix it soon…

Really, we ppl are mad for this 3.0 and jailbrok as well as unlock.
Since last 4 days I m visiting all the sites every few minutes to get latest info and progress from firmware release time to jailbroke release & 3GS fullnight wait of brook. Atlast we are satisfied that in cat mouse race, mouse again wins.

itunes 8.2 wont allow a rollback..you have to have an older version and then downgrade..not sure why you would want to do this but thats what you need..

yes once you are in 3.0 with itunes 8.2 uninstall itunes , install itunes 8.1 or 8 then restore 2.2.1 then it will give you an error at the end i think the error is 1013 or something like that , then it will be with the picture that says conect to itunes you know the USB and the itunes logo , use quickpwn 2.5.2 the one u use to jailbreak 2.2.1 then follow instructions it will tell u to put the DFU mode then just do it. at the end disconect the iphone from the pc , uninstall itunes 8.1 and install 8.2 then conect the iphone and it will be activated and jailbreak and you will be in 2.2.1 but with the 04.26.08 Modem Firmware this works because in the week from 06/11/09 to 06/18/09 i did this like 4 times. i have an mini 9 dell with itunes 8.1 and my dell with 8.2 and i was doing this all the time so i’m 100% sure it works this way, the modem firmware will NOT go back to 2.30.03 or whatever it was …
now i’m just waiting for quickpwn for 3.0 since i dont have a MAC, i could turn my mini 9 dell to a MAC but dont have OSX… oh well

It should download as a .dmg and then drag the PwnageTool.app to your Applications folder and then run it.

Use a torrent downloader like uTorrent and then copy the download link from the Dev-Team’s blog and then choose Open URL in uTorrent. Copy the link there and it will download.

It lets me load all my settings how I want in expert mode. Basically I just get rid of the custom boot logos. Then I hit build and it builds firmware for about 30 seconds to one minute then “quits unexpectedly”. Is expert mode not allowed right now for some reason? Does my iPhone always have to be plugged in?

Its the first time I’ve actually used PwnageTool. I used expert mode and the only thing I done was uncheck activate and uncheck the restore logo box. I kept my iPhone plugged in so i would try that. The only other thing I can think of is the root partion size, you could try increasing that a little if keeping the phone plugged in doesn’t work.

Only when restoring. You could try deleting PwnageTool and reinstalling it.

and then…. i installed winterboard… then cydia ask me to reboot device…. now my iphone wont boot…. when the phone starts, the pineapple logo appears and nothing happpens! please help me!!! has somebody have the same problem???

Just restore again in iTunes. Happened to me before. Lucky it happened to you straight away when you had nothing on the iPhone. Happened to me when TTR 2 crashed. I had lots of apps from Cydia and it took ages to install them again.

I had that same problem on 2.2, which led me to 2.2.1. You will need to connect your phone to your computer, launch iTunes, and hit Restore. Don’t restore to your custom fw. Restore to a clean 3.0 and then use pwnage tool again. It’s a pain but that’s what worked for me the last time I ran into that problem.

I have the same problem too, i jailbroke my iphone 3g, it is working good but every time i try to reboot, the phone boot, i see the apple logo but the phone does nothing, also if i open my calendar app, the phone freez and i have to reset, by pressing the power and the home button at the same time until the phone turn off and when still holding both button, the apple logo appear, and now the phone do nothing.
I ve restored the oginal 3.0 firmware it is works good, but when i restore one of my 2 custom 3.0 firmware. I have the boot problem.

Didn’t work for me too. my iPhone 3G (AT&T) after Jailbreak with NO signal. I restore with original FW3.0 from Apple is worked with the phone BUT using Pwnage tool again and again still NO signal on the phone.

Okay…The first time I used expert mode and it didn’t activate my phone. I did it the Simple( is that what it’s called? ) mode and made a new IPSW and bada-bing! It worked!

From iTunes, connect your phone and click either download and install or download only. You will need to have the most current iTunes installed.
Pwnage tool always crashes on Mac PPC. This is really sloppy, sorry to say. Used Intel Mac, to make custom firmware, now can’t update to firmware as error 1600 keeps popping up. I’ve JB many times without issues, but this time it’s a nightmare. Dev team won’t answer any questions, and people are trying different work arounds that aren’t working. Angry, frustrated and really p@#ed off.

It has been established that Pwnage tool 3.0 doesn’t work on PPC at the moment. They are fixing the bugs. We shall have to wait for the update, soon, I hope. Otherwise if you can get your hands on an intel Mac, you’re in luck.

I don’t know if this will help any of you. I’m using 13″ white macbook intel. Also when I re-jailbroke my 3G this afternoon I removed the sim card “smart chip”. I dont know if this made a difference but I had no issues. I created a custom ipsw and it went into DFU mode like it was suppose to. I restored with itunes using the custom ipsw, inserted the sim card back in and it activated when conected to itunes. It’s jailbroke with cydia and icy..

Just Jail Broke the wifeys 3G. First attempt got a windows error then had to close while installing ramdisk. Second attempt no problem although the bundle install was thought to be hung up but just took a few minutes…

If you’re already using 3.0 the push feature is very helpful but it drains your battery very fast. My advice is for you to turn it off and put it in manual.

You need iTunes to restore or update your phone. I restored mine. I’m using a mac so press alt option and browse for your ipsw. For pc, press shift.
Restore or update. After doing that open redsnow and browse for your ipsw. Just follow the instructions and you’re good to go. The hard part is installing cydia apps back. It took me awhile to download it all again.

installed custom ipsw everything went well but anything i try to install in cydia, i get errors then a respring, things in icy install but dont work. winterboard wont enable anything, all tweaks i have do nothing. this is stupid to have 2 extra (not counting WB) on my iphone if they dont work, i need a fix or im restoring

I just upgraded my 1st generation iPhone to the new 3.0 software using Pwnage for Mac. It worked great, but I’ve lost Cycorder and all the videos of my son I have taken. Is there anyway to get them back???? I also lost the Cyntact app I purchased from Cydia products. Can I load it again for free? given that I already purchased it, or can I find it somewhere in lost memory?

every time i shift restore with the new 3.0 it get about half way an comes up with an error 10 ??
any advice ?

Hi,anyone can tel me if is possible to downgrade firmware??i upgrade my 2g to 3.0 but want to go back to 2.2.1 anyway to do it please let me know…i tried but itunes gave me error 20 even though i use itune 8.1..

i upgraded to 3.0, i jailbroke my 3g iphone to 3.0… i have AT&T… now i have NO SIGNAL!! PLEASE HELP! WHAT DO I DO? :’(

hello friends, i buy an iphone 2G FROM A FRIEND AND WANTED TO RESTORE IT TO FACTORY DEFAULT BUT UNFORTUNATELY I DELETED ALL DATA AND SETTINGS ON THE IPHONE. NOW IT REFUSES TO RESTART. I ONLY SEE THE APPLE LOGO AT THE CENTRE AND PERIODIC ATTEMPT TO OPEN BUT IT WILL RESTART TO THAT LIMIT ONLY. KINDLY GUIDE ME ON HOW TO RESTORE ITS FACTORY SETTINGS. OH THANKS ALOT…
