Reminders – New App From Apple in iOS 5

I’ve always longed for a simple task management app that isn’t over complicated. I’ve also though of developing an app that would remind you of a task based on your location. For example, I could create a reminder that the next time I come a certain restaurant I need to remember to try their Salmon Special, or something like that. With Apple’s new stock app called Reminders, I now have a simple task manager with location based reminders! I am using the location feature the most right now by reminding myself to track my hours at work. When I arrive or leave work, I get a reminder to record my hours for the day. I also have it notify me, when I’m leaving work, to call my wife. She likes to know when I’ll be home so she can have dinner ready. One thing I don’t like is that to add a location as a reminder, you have to have the address in your contacts. You can’t manually add an address although you can add the current location. Best of all, it’s free! (With the purchase of an iPhone)

Another small problem with this otherwise exelent app is that if you do set a location reminder, the app will use geotracking until the task is done. aka, goodbye batterilife…

Hope they find a fix for this in a upcomming beta release though…

  2. I don’t see any app in the App Store called Reminders.

  3. Is it safe to install the IOS 5 beta? I’ve been told that it can have an effect on phone features.

    • There are just a few glitches here and there but it’s safe. You must have your iPhone registered as a developer with Apple or it won’t install.

  4. ok. You set a reminder to call your wife when you leave work. So, when you leave for lunch, it reminds you to call her? How can you set a reminder for when you leave work for the day? Say your wife calls you in the morning to remind you to pickup something on the way home from work. Of course, you leave work for lunch, so it reminds you. By the time you leave work for the day, you’ve forgotten. This is such a common occurrence, how did apple leave this out? Or am I missing something?

I’m testing this currently as I Ran into the same issue. Talked to a friend in the morning and set up a reminded to swing by their place on the way home to drop something off, the reminder went off at lunch time.

I’m testing a hybrid time based and location based reminder today. I’ve set the time to 4:30 pm today and for when i leave work. Perhaps this will not trigger the location based alert until after 4:30. I will try to remember to update with my findings!

    • As long as you don’t check it off, it will remind you again the next time you leave work. I do this for tracking my hours. I never check it off and it reminds me every time I leave and arrive at work.

Wow. I’m such a tool. I don’t even know how to use this message board.

Anyways, I’m so confused how to use this new “reminders” ap. No matter what I do, I can’t add anything. Can someone please explain to me how to create a reminder and lists? Thanks.
