Great news! 1.1.3 has been jailbroke. Here’s the info I have so far. Basically they (the iphone dev team and elite team) have both the iPhone and the iPod Touch jailbroke but are holding off the release until the SDK release in February, that way Apple can’t create a fix. The goal is to make is so you can have apps released through Apple and Installer.app together on your jailbroke iPhone. We will still need to jailbreak iPhones after the SDK to install apps not approved by Apple, to install themes, wallpapers, alternate sounds, etc. Also games like NES, adding ringtones without buying them on iTunes, or hacked text messaging tools are why we need jailbreaking. Here are some links and a video:

I think the decision to wait will be frustrating for the next month, but after the SDK comes out, everybody will be happy.

Hey Doug, is anything known about the 2nd Gen iPhone?

That’s pretty sweet. Looking forward to updating next month. Great idea to wait till the SDK comes out… hopefully everything will work out in the end.

The best news. Thanks for bringing it so fast. AppleIphoneSchool proved to be best source for all the iphone news once again.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! does that mean once they release the jailbreak i can just follow the instructions and update to 1.1.3 coz i’m on 1.1.2 now??

The descision to wait is bogus. Apple can release a patch to close the crack the day after they find it out, if they want…. SDK or not. Call it 1.1.3.1 The only reason they’re not releasing the crack is because they don’t have one. It’s vapour ware. My guess is that they are waiting for the SDK in the hope there is an expoilt in it they can use. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a load of crap until relased.

@Hamo…we are not exactly sure how it will work yet but, I’m guessing you will just upgrade to 1.1.3 and then jailbreak it from there. As soon as we have info on it…we will put it on our site with video instructions on how to do it.

@alex_dlc…we don’t know exactly what it will work on because it hasn’t been released yet but, I would assume it will work on 1.1.3 OTB iPhones.

But doesn’t downgrading end up bricking the iphone ? Are you not able to jailbreak without downgrading ?
Cause i’ve heard that downgrading can end up making you lose all your contacts and just make your iphone stop working all together
To be fair, i payed like £200 for this and i dont really want my money wasted , because doing all this breaks the warranty.
