Ringtones RIngtone is an app that allows you to create ringtones from music on your iPhone. When you open the app you will get an intro screen. From here you will get the main menu with four options; Start Converting, Visit Application Page, Visit Jamendo Page and Donate. When you hit Start Converting it will check for three things…binary check, encoding check and ringtones path check and once it has found all three it will bring you to a list of all the artists on your iPhone. Just select an artist and then a song that you want to make your ringtone out of. From here you will get another menu with three options Quick Conversion, Advanced Conversion and Cancel.

Quick Conversion will just convert the the first 30 seconds of the song into a ringtone. Advanced Conversion allows you to select where in the song you want the ringtone made from, how long you want the ringtone to be, whether you want a preview of the song and if you want it in .wav format or not. Once you have selected everything, tap Convert Now and it will convert it…this step takes a little time so be patient…I think it took at least around 30-45 seconds for me. Once it is finished it will bring you back you your song list….tap Ringtones in the upper left corner (twice) and you will br brought to a list showing all the ringtones you have created…you can delete them from here if you need to. Now, go into your Stock Phone app, select a contact, select Ringtone and you should see the ringtones you created in the list of available ringtones! The only thing I would add to this app is the ability to fade out the end of the ringtone…right not it just ends. Also, this app only works on 1.1.3 and above. Other than that…a seriously sweet app!! Ringtones is available through the Skrew source.

Ok, that’s pretty impressive, especially since SendSong doesn’t work on later firmware versions.

I prefer to use the GaugeBand on my Mac. All these can corrupt the plist. Experienced it earlier.

Hi Jash, what do you mean that you already experienced problems with this? Please explain.

    Thanks

Jash Sayani on March 27th, 2008 12:03 am:

Well, I used softwares like RingmiTone for Ringtones but they corrupted the plist and I have to restore the phone bec.no ringtones worked(even the pre-installed ones). So Gauge band is better as Its an official way of making ringtones.

It works with some of my music but not for all….for example, i put the ringtone into one and it seems good but after 5 secs just stop….
but still pretty good….already donate so the can fix this issue…

Huh…so far all the songs we have tried work with no problem but, we have only tried about 10 songs. Very cool that you donated to the developer to help fix the issue!

    Da187suspect on March 26th, 2008 11:45 am:

What’s a resonable amount to donate to these apps?

    David on March 26th, 2008 11:56 am:

    Well its a donation not a purchase….i usually give $5- $10…..
in gpSPhone I donate $5 and every time they make it better another dollar… I donate $5 to ring tone but as soon as they add fade in/fade out and make it nicer, i ll give them more…

    Da187suspect on March 26th, 2008 12:47 pm:

    Thanks David.

    kiddOko on March 26th, 2008 12:54 pm:

Yes same for me some songs will not play after I convert them. Reminds me of Sendsong in that regard. Its a small problem. Otherwise this app is awesome in my opinion. I’d say I’ve converted about 25 songs so far.

    Kaz on March 27th, 2008 8:42 am:

Yep, doesn’t work on all songs for some reason.

wouldnt this be good if they could get this to work for changing SMS tones.

I agree with Mark. I think everyone has been waiting on an app that has the ability to change the SMS and Mail Received sounds. The only app, that I know of, that came close was customize. It’d be great to just take clips of music or speech and apply.

…. or we can convert the wanted ringtone to an AAC via iTunes and rename the new AAC file to a .mp4r and open it with iTunes.

    Works for me in 1.1.3.

Yup….this is a brilliant application!!! Love it! It’s got a few errors such as not playing for 30 secs on some tracks and not converting all songs but for a first edition this is great! I say donate, donate! Well worth it

  20. Kristine on March 27th, 2008 1:24 pm:

when my phone is processing the three checks, the binary & ringtones path comes up OK almost immediately. The encoding check sticks with “checking in progress..(may need internet connection!)”.. after a few minutes I get an error that says “Sorry, Error Detected!…Application will not work properly. Go to http://i.danstaface.net and read FAQ!”…

Ok, but there is nothing in the FAQ addressing this specific error.. Is it because I’m not using WiFi? That’s not an option for me, so is there any way to make this work? I’ve tried installing the BigBossTool and it tells me I have to have BSD Subsystem first, but it won’t let me install that either???? I know this is going to be some simple thing I’m not doing, but I guess I need it spelled out..

    HELP!?!?!

  21. Kristine on March 28th, 2008 9:04 am:

got it to work. .. and I must say, this is EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting on and is by far the best app I’ve gotten so far!

Well i find that ringtone doesnt work for me – not sure why.

I have the 1.1.4 and it is like it skips a step because after i convert it, it doesnt go into ringtones.

    strange!

And so I did – I asks me to restart and after the restart – my phone in now not working… The springboard is completely fine and I can access all apps – but as soon as I access the apps, then I can hit anything. Cant scroll or tap in any app. so frustrating.. If anyone can help?? I’m so desperate – I’ve only had my iphone for 2 days.
