WinPwn 2.0.0.4 has been released. This will jailbreak firmware 2.0.1. Firmware 2.0.1 has some good upgrades that speed up the iPhone and keep the iPhone from crashing so much. The 2.0.1 firmware upgrades the modem firmware and has not been unlocked yet.

I am in progress of backing up my iPhone, upgrading and jailbreaking. I will update with more info later.

Yeah, I keep getting file not found errors and there are very few sources.. Cydia is awesome, though – came out quickly and has lots of apps. Winterboard is great, too!

that’s not a fair remark, its clearly in “BETA” so to say it sucks is like looking at a haircut half way into it…. give them time man! jeez!

  9. Jadeye on August 9th, 2008 7:02 pm:

@the704: in windows xp you could find the .ipsw file just here (in case if you let itunes download it already):

    C:\Documents and Settings\(YourUserName)\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\iPhone1,1_2.0.1_5B108_Restore.ipsw

this applies if you own a 1st generation (not 3G) iPhone. by 3G the .ipsw should be “iPhone1,2_2.0.1_5B108_Restore.ipsw”

if you have not let itunes download it for you already, then disconnect/reconnect your iPhone, and itunes will ask whether you would like to update your phone. select the option “download only”, wait while it finishes, and you will find it at the location I described above.

    good luck.

know it all to the rescue. the iphone f/w is located on a seperate partition to the media files but is the location where apps are stored, or atleast jailbroken apps, so you can resize the size of this partition if the 500 is too small for you as part of the 500 is taken up by 250 worth of f/w 2.0.1

    [Reply]

    Ramon on August 9th, 2008 9:14 pm:

u need to resize the size of the partition from 500 to 504 to give enough space to built the ipsw you see it at the end on the winpwn… this is because with installer included the ipsw is biger that 500…

    Ken on August 9th, 2008 10:38 pm:

So how do you resize the Partition?

  17. Michael on August 9th, 2008 9:13 pm:

winpwn 2.0.0.4 will crash if cydia selected on the build.
Even with a clean build, the update fails with an error 6 from itunes, tried several times and each time ends in error 6. Restored the previous 2.0 fireware generated by winpwn and phone works again…i guess I’ll wait for 2.0.0.5

    [Reply]

    Michael on August 9th, 2008 10:04 pm:

increasing the size solved the crash and error 6 problem, installed and working now on new firmware.

However, everything installed via cydia disappeared, is this normal?

Well, I tood the plunge…so far, so good. All is retored (except music) and everything seems to be working great, including the phone, etc.

I resized the partition to 699 thinking this might give me some more space for apps from Cydia/Installer.

    Milton on August 9th, 2008 11:31 pm:

You left the activat checked off when you built your custom .ipsw
You need to go through the whole process again but now with the activate option unchecked.

    josh on August 10th, 2008 12:15 am:

    i did that, doesnt work.

here is the fix for anyone who wants to know:

    > Restore your phone back to the standard iPSW
    > Create your custom pwned iPSW, do NOT select “activate phone” or “Youtube fix” – only select “Install Cydia”
    > Take out your SIM card (this is important)
    > Put the phone into DFU mode
    > pwn as normal
    > once pwned, unplug iPhone, insert your SIM and plug in again.
    > activate through iTunes as a new phone (also important)

    [Reply]

    Y3k-Bug on August 10th, 2008 1:20 am:

No, just create a custom 2.0.1 firmware, that will be your upgrade.

  31. Shikoro on August 10th, 2008 12:28 am:

So WinPwn just jailbreaks, but doesn’t unlock, right? In other words, on my 1st gen jailbroken/unlocked 2.0 phone = no service?

Wonder when Apple will come out with 2.0.2…

Is 2.0.1 that much better than 2.0 ? So far I haven’t experienced a lot of problems with 2.0, although there is small minus: locate me button in the Maps is not working, gives a “ginormous” circle.

    [Reply]

    Y3k-Bug on August 10th, 2008 1:20 am:

It unlocks 1st gen phones, just not 3G.

Are you outside when you do the locate feature? It doesn’t work when there is a physical obstruction around you, GPS needs direct line of sight to the satellites to work.

  32. Jeremy on August 10th, 2008 12:36 am:

I noticed that the intaller version for the new winpwn 2.0.0.4 is 2.0….. Earlier here they anounced installer 4.0…. Is the 2.0 installer ok to insatll on the 3G with the update? Also is this a later version of installer or an error?

    [Reply]

  33. Y3k-Bug on August 10th, 2008 1:18 am:

I wish the developers had simply waited. Installer simply isn’t ready for primetime. Installed apps that, after removing in Installer, are still present and functional. Now I’ll have to SSH to remove them. Sigh.

Ton of “file not found” errors also. Plus no sources or apps.

To those who haven’t leaped into Installer yet… I’d recommend waiting a while, at least until the next version release.

  34. Jennifer on August 10th, 2008 1:56 am:

It seems like that this winpwn 2.0.0.4 is not as good as the previous version. From what I read, Doug mention that this can jailbreak but not unlock; however, others are saying they have successfully unlock and jailbreak with the 2.0.1 FW on their Gen 1 iPhone.

Please advise someone? and yes, why is it Installer 2.0? Did you mean installer for 2.0 FW? I would like to know this.

    [Reply]

    lokko21 on August 10th, 2008 3:30 am:

It does unlock 1st gen iPhones and jailbreak, installer it’s 4.0b4-4 so that means for 2.0 FW.

  35. Phil on August 10th, 2008 6:21 am:

I’ve already upgraded (stupidly) my 3G to 2.0.1 via iTunes, am I basically stuffed at the moment? or can I jailbreak?

    [Reply]

    Milton on August 10th, 2008 8:58 am:

You can jailbreak, but there are no guaranties that you will be able to unlock it in the future … because of the baseband upgrade that comes with 2.0.1. The pwnage tool cannot revert the baseband upgrade.

    Phil on August 10th, 2008 9:51 am:

Cheers……..will give it ago now, not bothered about unlocking at least for the next 17months anyway…..I’d imagine by then it will be sorted, all I want is my Cydia/Installer back!

    Cheers

1st Question: If I pwn my iPhone 3G now, and September rolls around and Apple releases fw 2.1, I’ll just be able to update through iTunes to a legit firmware, and then pwn again (when there’s an updated Winpwn of course)?

2nd: One of the steps in your tutorial says we have to use iPwner, and that pwns iTunes. What exactly does that mean that iTunes is pwned? Will an update to iTunes de-pwn it? Do I need the latest iTunes for this to work? If other iPods use that computer and iTunes, will there be any problems with that? Thanks!

I’m not getting any errors at all except when i finishing jailbreaking it i have no carrier. I’ve done it once with activate checked and unchecked i have partition size at 750. Phone works just can’t make or recieve any calls. Could someone show me step by step what i need to check or uncheck not that there’s a lot of choices. Any help is greatly appricated

Hi I managed to stuck my iphone with boot neutrik (tried to down grade 4.6 to 3.9).. so I tought I updating the firmware will help .. But for some reason, while I trying to Ipwn iTunes, itunes won’t “find” my custom firmware?? It just says you need to restore you iphone and load newest firmware ETC.. I ‘m using Winpwn2.0.0.4 and newest Itunes.. What I’m doing wrong. Can I ever use my iphone again.. or is this device complete utter now??

Yes you do have a hope!!!

Be sure you are in the DFU mode..(I think this is the best way to know you are in DFU mode)
    1.Shut down your iPhone
    2.start itunes
    3.connect iPhone to computer
    4. press home and the power button together 10 seconds (9 secs will do also. Keep in mind, don’t press too long) then release power button, but keep home button pressed so long, that your computer (NOT iTUNES) recognize your device on DFU mode (balloon down on the right corner, same kind of away you have connected new device to computer and windows tells that to you (found new hardware bla bla..) ).

Now you’re able to do restore your iPhone from custom made firmware!!
which you have made with winpwn but DO NOT FORGET TO PRESS SHIFT KEY : ) :)

let us know how you have succeeded with this !!

dummy me on August 20th, 2008 1:36 pm:

Now it works!! My phone wasn’t in DFU mode!! (although it looked like)

    thanks fckr u r the fck!!! :) :)

    thank you once again!!

You left the “ACTIVATE” button checked, I think. I did the same thing a few weeks back and nevr have the time to go back and redo it so I just restored. Thinking of JBing again today. But I’ll make SURE that button is unchecked before I finish.
