I just upgraded one of our 1st Gen iPhones to 2.0.2 firmware form 2.0 and kept getting an error using the QuickPwn feature of WinPwn. Luckily there is a new release of WinPwn that fixes these types of errors. You can download the update here. When upgrading, don’t forget to uninstall your previous version of WinPwn if you have one. To update just click the pinapple in the very top left corner and then click for updates. After the update the jailbreak went smooth with no problems.
WinPwn 2.5.0.2 Beta 2 Update Released
WinPwn 2.5
WinPwn 2.5 is finally here! This is a very nice jailbreak application. I just upgraded to iPhone firmware 2.0.2 and jailbroke my iPhone 3G using the QuickPwn part of WinPwn 2.5. You can jailbreak the iPod Touch and both the 1st Gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G all on firmwares 2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. You can also unlock the 1st Gen iPhone but not the iPhone 3G.
Again, I used the QuickPwn part of WinPwn because I can’t unlock my iPhone 3G and didn’t want to restore. To switch WinPwn 2.5 into QuickPwn Mode just click the Custom icon at the top and it will switch to QuickPwn mode. The steps are really easy and the big difference with this version is WinPwn is it’s design and usability. If you’ve been afraid to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch because it looks too hard, it’s now become even easier. [Read more…]

WinPwn 2.5
It seems that the developers of WinPwn are in the process of developing a new WinPwn that is, “a lot easier to use and should help a lot of people having issues.” I’m not exactly sure what that means…the current process seems to be decent. So, I guess we will just have to wait any see. They say WinPwn 2.5 will be released “very soon.” We will keep an eye out for it!

WinPwn 2.0.0.2
An updated version of WinPwn was released yesterday. Doug and I had a chance to test the new version last night and it worked great. Doug is in the process of trying to convert and edit a demo video on how to use WinPwn so, keep an eye out for that. Below is a list of fixes for WinPwn 2.0.0.2 and upcoming features in the future.
2.0.0.2 Fixes:
• Cydia/XP/Writing root FS bug.
• Failed to remove ipsw directory after a ipswBuild failure.
• iPwner now only accepts custom ipsws.
• Remove 345 ipsw support. WinPwn only supports 347 2.0 ipsw’s.
• Various other fixes.
Upcoming Features:
• Parition resizer
• Auto updater
• DFU Helper function/Wizard mode
WinPwn 2.0
It’s here! We’ll be testing soon. Again, no Installer yet, but you want to try it here’s the instructions and downloads (be sure to also read the Important Notes section below):
– 1) Uninstall WinPwn 1.0 first.
– 2) First create a custom IPSW using the IPSW Builder.
– a) you will need the 2.0 firmware file. The one for the 1st Gen is different than the 3G. You can download them from our firmware page or you can click upgrade in iTunes and then unplug your iPhone to force iTunes to download it. The file will be stored in your local drive, usually C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates– 3) Click “Ipwner” and browse for the custom IPSW that you just created. This will pwn itunes and allow you to flash Custom IPSW files via DFU mode
– 4) Once you have pwned Itunes, put your phone into DFU mode. If you don’t know how to do this click Here.
– 5) Once you are in DFU mode Itunes will pop up and then you can hold shift and click restore and browse to your custom IPSW file.
WinPwn Getting Closer
Well, according to guys over at Winpwn.com they are testing the latest version of WinPwn and we should see a release soon! Maybe the next couple of days?! Hold tight…we are almost there.
WinPwn…Getting Closer to being Ready for Firmware 2.0
Though we have already seen the release of Pwnage 2.0 as a jailbreak option for firmware 2.0, some of us (that includes Doug and I) are anxiously awaiting the release of WinPwn, the windows version of Pwnage. We do not have any hard evidence of when it is going to be released but the guys over at WinPwn.com say that we can expect to see it in the next few days. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Once it has been released we will do a full article on how to use it and how it worked for us. Though, as of now, Installer is still not available for firmware 2.0 and there have not been many application ported over. Let me know in the comments if those of you on 1.1.4 and below will update to 2.0 and jailbreak right away or if you will hang out on your jailbroke 1.1.4 for a little while.
WinPwn and iTunes 7.7 – Not Compatible
Doug just restored his iPhone to the current 1.1.4 firmware using iTunes. He then tried to use the firmware he had created via WinPwn to jailbreak his iPhone. Well, he found out the hard way that the firmware you create using WinPwn no longer works with version 7.7 of iTunes. Meaning, you cannot restore and jailbreak your iPhone using WinPwn if you have upgraded your iTunes to 7.7…even firmware 1.1.4 and below. Doug had not upgraded to 2.0, it was just a normal jailbreak of 1.1.4…the kind we have done a million times. So it seems that iTunes 7.7 breaks the WinPwn jailbreak. If you have upgraded to iTunes 7.7 and need to down grade so that you can do restore your iPhone if needed…HERE is a link to iTunes 7.5.
Note: Updating to version 7.7 of iTunes will not break your current jailbreak. However, you will not be able to restore using WinPwn if you have version 7.7. The only reason to update to iTunes 7.7 is to get the App Store. If you do not need the App Store because you are not upgrading to the 2.0 firmware…there is no need to update to version 7.7 of iTunes.
